  1. these kind of topics are getting annoying lol, i used to think they were fun to read. and whether you think tkd is good or not, doing any kind of martial art is better then nothing, am I correct?
  2. I'm pretty sure external and internal would be okay, not so sure since i never tried But most tai chi classes these days are just for health and nothing else. I plan to take wing chun when i get to my next belt, there's a place nearby and the sifu there was taught by a guy who studied under yip man and was also a friend of yip man, so i think it might be good. i hope i don't get confused between my two styles. well cya guyz.
  3. Yeah, you should defintely see who his instructor was, if his instructor was like Willain Cheung or anythony arnett or something you know he's probably good. if you don't like that place check out this website: http://www.wingchun.org there are a list of schools for all the different states. hope this helps.
  4. oh I see, thanks for your reply, it's interesting reading about wing chun because it's so different and unique from other arts
  5. lol, ya being 75 pounds is kinda skinny unless you're like 4 ft. well just eat healthy and since you can't really do much exercise, just exercise your upperbody like i said before. and since we're on the subject.. do you guys think it's a safe/realistic goal to try to lose 40 pounds by September 1st? summer just started so homework won't get in the way either. hehe i could train all day if i wanted to too.
  6. I don't take wing chun yet, but I read in an article that boxers say they have a really hard time with wing chun punches because they are so fast(fastest punch recorded so far was by a wing chun grandmaster named willian cheung, 8.4 punches a second!). But I think that if you did wing chun for a short period of time, the boxer would win since there are not as many techniques in boxing and I heard the punches they use are more natural. but i believe wing chun would win if you train in it for a long time(though it all depends on the person) I might be wrong though, like I said I don;'t take wing chun yet. 7. I think as the years go by martial arts will get more popular, and sooner or later it'll probably become more sport.
  8. From what I read it seems like your ankle is still hurting and you can't really exercise much until Sept.. Mebbe I misread it, I dunno, but if you can't use your ankle I guess you could do some upperbody stuff like crunches and push up and stretch, and eat healthy. I heard of this person who barely exercised cuz she had a desk job, and she just changed the way she ate and lost 30 pounds in 5 months. Anyway, I don't think you should try to lose 75 pounds, maybe 10 or 20 pounds depending on how tall you are. well g'luck.
  9. Oh I get it now, thanks so much everyone!
  10. what's the diff between point sparring and freestyle sparring?
  11. Hi, my instructor tells me that in a sparring position your body should be totally relaxed, but your fists should be really tight and tensed up in case someone kicks you there without you knowing or something like that. but i thought everything, especially including your fist had to be relaxed. What do you guys think?
  12. Find a good book and a good teacher and practice. And it's not really a power. Most people only do it for better health and longetivity, though few people do it for self defense.. but if you really wanted to do self defense I wouldn't really learn ki anyway.. Just do a martial art. most people don't get to the level where they can do stuff like you see some masters do.
  13. Instead of doing all these different arts, wouldn't it be better to do just one or two well rounded art, like hapkido, ninjutsu or jeet kune do?
  14. Congradulations!
  15. Yepperz, TKD gots lotsa kicks. One reason why I started, because I love their fancy kicks. But my school also teaches punching, blocking, wristlocks, and some other self defense stuff, too. Hmm, I must be the only person here that believes TKD is alright for self defense, as long as you stick to the basics.. Coz come on, if you look at a TKD roundhouse kick, and another roundhouse kick, or a TKD front kick or something like a kickboxing front kick, they are almost exactly the same. as long as you stick to the basics in a streetfight i dun see what's wrong.. Plus if you can kick high well, then you can kick low very well. i feel like I'm talking to myself.. well i'm bored because I don't have school today but i can't go anywhere cuz of my stupid ankle. oh look im talking to myself again.  eh.. ignore me, guys.
  16. I sprained my ankle yesterday night while i was taking a walk with my dog.. does anyone know any ways I can heal it fast? If I sit down i'm okay, but when i try to walk, i have to limp and even than it hurts. I have a belt test soon, too. lol, well I'm lucky this is my first sprained ankle in 13 years.. to bad it just had to happen at this time. so any advice on what to do would be great! thanks
  17. Thank you all for replies everyone. I think I will much rather eat healthy and exercise a lot then take risks, ketosis would be my last choice, since I'm not too sure if it's 100 percent safe. I'll do my research, like Jack said, but as for now, eating healthy and exercising sounds better.
  18. Argh.. The stuff on those site (except for the martial ki one) are not really chi. They are something else.. If you really want to learn chi get a good teacher to teach you tai chi, qi gong, bagua, or any other qi/chi art. But some of the stuff on some of those site works, so I guess it doesn't really matter whether they are really chi or not does it.
  19. i dont think hapkido, aikido, tai chi, and qi gong(chi kung), and bagua would have gotten this far if chi was really fake. how about acupuncture? acupuncture is when you basically stick those needle things into a meridian(which is where chi flows through your body) to heal certain areas.. Plus the meridian passageways are very similar to your veins. there's some other things that use chi like feng shui, and my friends have said it works too. well i think it's real because i have used and felt it, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course.
  20. since those other two said something in korean.. Eep dock chu ba bo yah
  21. It's not your fault, don't worry too much about it. But like everyone else suggested, send him a get well card. hmm, and while we are on the topic of breakfalling, does it become natural after you practice it or do you have to think about doing it as you fall?
  22. hmm, sounds more dangerous then I thought. Thanks for the information kickchick. so if you go on this diet, I understand your brain and some muscles slow down, but once you get out of it, does it ever come back(reflexes, etc)? Thank you. I'm gonna go see a doctor hehe..
  23. hey thanks a bunch, yep that was what I was looking for!
  24. lol, I tried looking for a few kenpo posts. Found em, but not many of them answers my question. boohoo. Hehe anyway, at least can someone tell me if kenpo incorporates grappling and weapons, and how much it focuses on things like sparring, self defense, katas, etc. and any other related info. ooh and also, this is kinda outta topic, but if you do TKD, crosstraining in kenpo would be bad, right? because people say TKD and shotokan are really similar, but i'm not too sure about TKD and kenpo. and, another thing.. is kenpo more of a sport art(like WTF TKD) or a self defense art(like ju-jitsu)? thnks.
  25. hmm.. i think there's too many different styles of karate, but whatever. Anywho, what's kenpo karate? like what does it focus on, and does it use grappling or anything like that at all? Is it a good art for self defense? Does it use weapons? what's the history of it? i know.. lotsa question, but I like learning about the different arts. I dunno why.. I just do.
