  1. wow lots of people started later then I thought. I thought people usually started like at 5-8. I started when I was 12(like a month ago), now I'm 13.
  2. Hiya everyone, what age did you begin learning martial arts, and how old are you now?
  3. !!!! !!!! I thought there were only like 4 Korean arts... Geesh, there's so many. Goodluck on your report crucio. I hope you don't have to explain the history of every art or anythin' lol. Cya hiya [ This Message was edited by: Hiya on 2002-04-25 21:23 ]
  4. I wish I could do that, too bad I'm live in the pacific side of the US. But yeah I do plan on voluntering help for the animal shelter or go to one of those old people's homes and just help them out. Only thing is they said I had to be 16.. three more years to go. You'd probably think I'm too young to be thinking about college already (or at least I do), but my Mom doesn't think so lol. Thank you so much for your help everyone. KSN Doug, I'll tell my Mom what you said. She ain't making me play golf. The stuff they wear scare me too! Thank yaz again! Cya Hiya
  5. Hm, there's a Ninpo kai (does the kai mean anything?) about 35 minutes from where I live. If I get really lucky my Mom will agree to drive me there during the summer and by 8th grade also.. I'm doubtful though. She hates to drive. heh I can't wait till I'm old enough to drive. Also, is bujinkan a type of ninjitsu? There's a bunjinkan dojo around here also, but I really have no idea what art it is, other then the fact there was a link to that site on a ninjitsu site. Edit: Hey Blade, taejutsu is the same as ninjitsu only without the weapons, am I right? Thank you for all your help everyone. [ This Message was edited by: Hiya on 2002-04-25 20:59 ]
  6. tabi huh? lol.. I still think they should be called chicken feet. so if ninpo is a higher form of ninjitsu, does it mean it's better or it has more techniques or something? Im kinda confused. thank you Cya Hiya
  7. oh I see thanks everyone for clearing that out.
  8. Hiya, thought I might put this here since I think ninjitsu uses a lot of weapons. Does anyone know if ninjitsu is the same as ninpokai? Also in ninjitsu do you have to wear those chicken feet boot thingies? lol.. I think they look really ugly(please don't take offense to that anyone) and lastly, in ninjitsu do you have to learn stealth and stuff like the ninjas did a long time ago? Thank you Cya Hiya
  9. Hiya there, I have a question on contact sparring and non contact sparring. I think contact sparring is where you actually hit the opponent. so i'm thinking non contact would be where you try to hit the opponent, but you don't actually touch them. But if you don't actually hit them, and they don't hit you, does it really help you for self defense? i would think if you get used to not actually hitting your opponent, during a fight you might purposely miss them or something. plus if someone hits you for the first time during a fight, wouldn't you flinch and stuff? Also, another question here. At your school dojo dojang whatever, about when do you start to sparr? I don't mean what belt, since a lot of schools have a dif belt system, but how long do you have to go there to start sparring? thank you cya hiya
  10. I haven't really gotten into a fight other then the one in first grade. [ This Message was edited by: Hiya on 2002-04-23 21:54 ]
  11. I was born in korea and lived there for 7 years. THen I moved to Taiwan and lived there for 2 years. Now I live in Oregon. I take TKD, and I'm planning on taking wun hop kuen do, wing chun, or maybe even aikido, but I haven't picked yet. Well there's my one paragraph life story of me for ya.
  12. Oh hey I heard of that place. It's weird talking to someone online that lives really close by. Oh and by badass do you mean like really bad at stuff? lol sorry, English isn't my first language so I don't know much slang or anything like that. Cya Hiya
  13. Hey Ti-Kwon-Leap, you live in Portland OR? So do I. Ya I found his site, it sounds pretty good. Do you take it?
  14. Hiya, Does anyone know anything or actually take won hop kuen do? If so, can you give me information about it, what weapons they use, if they have forms, etc? There's a place nearby that teaches it, and I think it's taught by the founder,Al Dasaco or something so I'm also thinking about taking that too. Thank you Cya
  15. hiya, if you take kung fu, are there any girls in your classes? I'm a girl, and I've never heard or seen any girl doing kung fu... whats up with this?
  16. yeah I guess you are right muythaiposer. I'm going to probably check out the proffesional martial arts site, and if I don't like it then my next choice will defintely be aikido. It's because from the way you talk it seems like aikido is really hard or something. Common, after 20 years it still can't be super hard, and even then still hard to use on the streets. Thank you so much for your help. Any more advice would be great tho. Cya Hiya
  17. Hiya Tiger, I'm from Korea too. And I think it's true that some people in Korea believe martial arts is just more sport and won't actually help you in self defense. I'm saying this cuz my Dad was a blackbelt I judo, and he also did TKD in the army but he doesn't think it's gonna help him much. My brother also didn't think martial arts would help at all because he beat two people at once that took TKD. But he changed his mind about it recently since i started TKD.... But does it really matter? No, just continue with your training and don't get so angry. And there's no need to hate your own country, or any other country for that matter Hey maybe you will be the next generation of Brue Lee. Well, you are so lucky you lost 6kg in 3 weeks.. I've been doing TKD for over a month now(i think), and I haven't lost anything.. If I do I end up gaining again. Well goodluck and welcome.
  18. oh also yoda "Aikido is a great art with many benefits for it's practitioners. I don't believe realistic self protection to be one of those benefits. " so aikido isn't a realistic self protection? why though? Thank you Cya Hiya
  19. Hiya everyone, thank you so much for your help. Jack, you misunderstood me. I am going to start another art, but I'm defintely going to continue with TKD also. And Yoda, I am going to start aikido over the summer, and if I like it I'm going to continue till I die. Well I was hoping the wing chun place was good, but I guess it might focus too much on fitness or something. Plus it doesn't have contact sparring Too bad wing chun doesn't seem to be too popular around the area I live. hmm.. here's a hapkido school http://www.modernhapkido.com that I might go to, but I doubt it. What do you people think of that one? I feel weird asking question after question. Sorry guys Thank you Cya Hiya [ This Message was edited by: Hiya on 2002-04-21 10:15 ]
  20. I would want to do as what you said Pacificshore but.. ~changes into my Mom~ "no no, you either start one art, stick with it, or don't start at all" lol yep that's my Mom for you guys. well anywho. I thought if I decided to start another art, instead of just thinking about hapkido and aikido, I might as well look through other arts and see which one seems to be the best. How about wing chun? That sounds good too for me. http://www.professionalmartialarts.com Can anyone tell me if this place would be alright too(It teaches two hours of wing chun on Sundays, and on Sudays I have a lot of time)? It would be a lot easier if there were less martial arts to choose from. Sorry for all these questions Thank you Cya Hiya
  21. I think I do have the patience. But the reason why I wanted aikido was because I read you don't have to be all big and stuff to beat your opponent(Plus you use weapons). I don't know if it's like that with hapkido, because I was also considering taking hapkido since it looked like a good art. so hapkido or aikido? I dunno.. what do you guys and girls think is the better choice?
  22. lol I hope your shin gets better. Ooh all silver?? Congradulations!!
  23. Probably everyone has different opinions about which one is better, so me thinks you should just go to both the combat and traditional dojang and watch the classes to see which class you like more.
  24. Ooh thanks for your replies everyone. I guess maybe MA might help for some colleges, but maybe it won't. Oh well. I'll just hit the books and study all day when I get to somewhere 'round 12th grade. Taikudo-ka, lol.. That reminds me of what my Mom said.. "Even if you hate it now, the more you play the more you'll like it." Now that's strange.. I wonder how she knows. I'll take your word for it and not hers lol.
  25. Hiya everyone, well I started TKD a while ago(Thanks to you people's encouragment) , and I absolutely love it. But during summer vacation when I won't have much to do, I also wanna cross train in aikido, mainly cuz TKD doesn't have any grappling and weapons, and there's an aikido place nearby. I dun even know if Mom will say I can go since it might be a bit of money, but hopefully she will, cuz she's always saying how I need more and more exercise... lol But anywho, here's the site to the place i'm thinking about going to. http://12.22.32.210/ Can you guys and girls please tell me if that place looks like a good place to go? Thank you much! Cya Hiya [ This Message was edited by: Hiya on 2002-04-19 22:26 ]
