testing fees?
greenbelt_girl15 replied to jillsocci's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
yikes! $6000! That is just stupid, at our dojo testingis free up to two black stipes, black belt testing is $100.Which seems resonable, but $6000!Sorry but I don't think that I would ever pay that much for testing. -
In curvature in your spine do you mean scoliosis (sp?). I guess I didn't think of as bad for my knees but I also have a slight curvature in my spine and have osteoarthritis in my knee's (I'm only 16).I think that your back could definatly be a factor here.As for glucosamine and chondroiten, I haven't used them but I have heard good things about both.

In Cuong Nhu we only use several titles. We start with Sempai - assistant intructor Sensei- intructor Master-5th dan and above... I think Grand Master-Head of Style O'Sensei-founder of the style

honestly, ten is way to young for black belt, and in a competition like that, well of course they are going to be going for their friends, I mean they are ten.

First Exposure to Martial Arts?
greenbelt_girl15 replied to ArmorOfGod's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Hard to remember, most likely a jackie chan movie,or just a library book.I remember for a long time having the vauge thought of 'karate seems really cool' -
Well I started Cuong Nhu at 14 and wished that I had started younger, so I think you are at a good age.

[quote name="AodhanI've heard the argument that to believe in chi/ki (However your style spells it) is to not believe in a supreme deity. I don't buy it' date=' for this reason. As I understand it, chi is your inner life force, that you can get in touch with, manipulate, etc. To me that suggests a soul as well. I don't want to delve into the religious aspects of it, but I've never seen how getting in better touch with yourself is to disbelieve in a deity. Aodhan[/quote] I don't think that getting better in touch with yourself would cause you to disbelieve in a deity, but when becoming more enlightened becomes more important than the god that you worship that is when it starts interfering with you religion, because enlightening yourself has become a higher priority than your religion, thus becoming the thing you worship. At first I had a hard time with the concept of chi, I was raised in a very shelterd christian home and really had no idea of what it was.So I began studying and eventually came to the conclusion that chi is real and that in itself is not a religion. However if it ever becomes more important than my relationship with Jesus Christ that I have to step beck and check my priorities. I would definatly agree with that Ki Master.Chi and demonic worship are tow WAY different things. But I think that those in chuches are so misinformed about chi, it's realy kinda sad. Even my own sister thinks that I shouldn't meditate. I guess that's a choice everyone has to make on their own.

okay, mabybe I'll talk to him

Definately ask your instructor before continuing anything that hurts, especially with a twinging sort of pain in your muscle. If your instructor does not know what to do, or his/her advice does not help, it would probably be good to talk to a sports doctor and get some professional advice. David I wouldn't mind asking my instructor exept that I've got so many medical probs that already effect my training that he might think I'm just trying to "get out" of doing something else (We have several kids in our dojo like that)see I have artheritis in my knees, problems with my wrist that prevent me from doing any push-ups half the time, pluss asthma that prevents me from doing more than about 4 laps aroud the gym without having to stop. So I don't know if it would be best to talk to him or not.

congrats! Good job! -
I definatly think that there are those with natural talent, and you do have to work hard to develop the gifts that you have. But I also think that you can usually tell those who have a natural apitude towards martial arts or whatever from those who have techniqual skill. At least this is my experience in music.

Yes I stretch a lot.I'm close to being able to do the splits and we alway stretch out and warm-up before we start techqiues.

Hi everyone I've had trouble with my back kicks since I've first learned them, about when I've got the kick extended and also when drawing it back in I have a twinging sort of pain that goes up the back of my leg. It may be that I'm doing the kick incorrectly, but I think that it has more to do with muscle strength.Anyone got some good strengthening tips that would work on the back of my legs? Thanks

Etiquette Question
greenbelt_girl15 replied to greenbelt_girl15's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
wow I didn't know there were any dojos in seattle area, last I head the one school in the area had shut down. Tell me how your sensai's test goes, that sound cool. As for the whole don't ask about testing thingy,I think that it's pretty universal, I think I first heard about it on this site actually.Instuctors are of course exempt from the rule.I guess the whole thing is that it's rude to ask if you are testing because it might seem like you are assuming that you are good enough to take the test.,something that should only be determind by the instuctors. The story was great! Sounds like the mom was as eager as the kids to see them promoted. So you're in Seattle, do you think if we could raise enough money that your instructor would come and test us like over a weekend? -

Got an answer, Either we can try to raise enough money ourselves to get someone up here to test us or possably be tested by our brownbelt instructor. Unfortunantly I judt don't have the cash to make it down to IATC, but maybe I can convince my instructors that we should raise the money so that we can go next year. A nother thing that would make it hard to get a black belt up here soon is because of IATC since so many will be heading that way next month. It's good to see some other CNers on here , What dojo are you at? I'm in Rising Winds up here in Alaska. -
Mine is from the Bible and has several meanings to me. First; using a scripture verse is to indicate the most important thing in my life, serving God, and second; the verse encompases some of the fundemental philosophies in Cuong Nhu Love and Self-dicipline.

Good for you! I don't think it was inappropriate at all, though I'm not sure if I would have used the word kill, but who knows... -

Both of my instrucors are brown belts. Obviously this is not a normal procedure in any dojo, but I live in a very small town and we don't have any cuong nhu black belts here. Our head instructor has been teaching for at least 15 years so she knows what she is doing -
in our dojo testing is free up to two black stripes then it's $100.
