  1. Thanks for the new responses. Welcome ered101! It really does help to see other christians who don't have a problem with ki, I've heared lots of negativity from other chirstians about anything to do with martial arts, and it hurts me when others who say they know Christ immedietly condem something that they don't know anything about!
  2. Nope, Next come's 2 brown stripes on my green belt, then a brown belt. I don't know if this was taken from another style or not, but here is the analogy that is used for our ranking system. White belt represents a seed,a beginger is like a new seed.Just as a seed begins putting down it's first roots for a firm foundation, so does the new student. one green stripe- is like the first leaf on a newly sprouted tree,a first achivment and the means for more progress. two green stripes- at this stage the tree is busy putting forth new leaves and roots, just as a student is working to polish stances, techniques, and principles. green belt- represnts a young tree in full leaf,a long way to go yet, but all of the essentails in place roots leave and bark.Likewise a student at this stage now puts all energy into growth. 1 brown stripe- brown is the color of the earth, and also of bark, during this time the student works on building strength and toughness just as the tree is thickening it's bark 2 brown strips- and the tree continues to grow to.. brown belt-the tree is now firmly rooted and strong, with thick bark. 1 and 2 black stipe- the tree begins to to mature and it's bark weathers and darkens. So also the student as they develop their teaching skills. black belt- represents a tree that is now fully mature(adult) and the student earn the title of sensei and takes on a teaching role. Then as you go through the dan ranks you earn red stripes which signify fruit on the tree.
  3. Hehehe, I thought abourt it ,but it would be too long, plus I'm 17 now so I'd have to change the whole thing As for Cuong Nhu, it was developed by Ngo Dong about 50 years ago in Vietnam. It is a mix of the strongest attributes of Shotokan, Vovinam, Judo, Aikido, Wing Chun, and western boxing. At first you work on hard style stuff, then as you become more advanced more soft style is incorperated into the curriculum. As far as I know there are about 65 dojos, most in the U.S. Some in Europe, and Vietnam. If you want to know more pm me, there's a pretty cool story behind Ngo Dong coming to the US.
  4. I passed my first brown stripe test today! I took the first part of the test last year, and then had the stomach flu the 2nd day! So I had to wait on the philosophy part of the test until now. I'm so excited!
  5. I do Cuong Nhu and about 7 of those are on my list, gives me some good ideas too....
  6. congratz! I just got my permit a few days ago, they didn't give my test back, but the DMV lady did show me what I got wrong and the corect answers for those ones. I just started behind the wheel training, just up and down our road, but it's kinda exciting!
  7. You'll never be too old to start!
  8. I'll be praying for him and his family.
  9. I think that it would definatly be interesting to have something like a holodeck but only for practicing on your own instead of replacing instructors. I just don't think that a machine could replace a sensei.
  10. Both of my instructors are brown belts, part of the reson that they do not hold a dan rank is because of where we live ( our village is off the road system and we are the only dojo in town) However the head instructor has been teaching for 16 years and in my eyes they are both blackbelts The art they teach is Cuong NHu.
  11. Welcome to KF!
  12. yeah tell me about it! I just got home from my post-op, and that is one big scar! I've got like 45 min. of exercizes and scar massage and stuff like that that I have to do three times a day, which is quite a bit. But if it helps I guess I'll survive.
  13. training does help with cramps, in fact any active exercize will most likely help.
  14. My belt is worn looking but hasn't quite started to fray yet. When I was promoted to greenbelt my instructor gave me her old belt, I felt very honored. It must be about 20 years old now
  15. Sounds like an exciting test. Good luck!
  16. Thanks KarateK, its nice to get some encouragment! From all of you really, it's tough having to just sit around and not do much; well some of the time but it does get old
  17. congratz, for both you and your son! Thats great about his form form Thank you for praying for me, my surgery went well, though the surgery was twice as long as the doctor predicted!
