Medium contact is good , but if "your not worried aobut getting your head knocked off " you may develop a bad habit of not defending

Have you ever heard about a student failing a belt test?
y2_sub replied to Bleeding Lion's topic in Karate
I never failed in a grading test , but some guys i know did , there is nothing wrong with , it was just bad luck , and as for shotochem , i think you must retest , i know that BB as not the ultimate goal , but why not wearing it while people who don't deserve it are allready BB?? plus , black belt means that you are an "advanced beginner" -

Just keep your distance and don't target the face , low kick him insted -
I agree with Zaine. 1st comes control, then comes speed, then power. Its better off learning correct technique then working on the power. In my opinion that is, im no expert. Power as in power while performing techniques , not power as in brute force !! If you are fighting to knock down your opponent , then power comes in the first place , if ur techniques lack power then you won't be able to knock down no matter how much control you have I guess elbows_and_knees explained my point of view correctly , thx pal

less than 1% of the world population train (or have trained ) in martial arts and 90% of them never make it to black belt So we - black belt holders - are the best of the best

Yes , but it's just IKO1 that is promoting and participating in k-1 kickboxing events , the other IKOs have not changed their ways yet ( & I hope they never do ) , some of the kyokushin offshoots have become pure kickboxing or MMA while other offshoots are still pure karate , I guess it's all up to "the kancho"

Martiol Arts outlawed in the US?
y2_sub replied to mantis99's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Someone told me once that a black belt is considered equal to a weapon by law , and if you beat someone up and the police knew that you have a black belt , they consider it equal to beating him with a stick or a baseball bat I doubt it though -
If the very competant okinawan karateka has a weapon of any kind , then their chances are somehow equal , if that same karateka is facing a very competant samurai , I would give it to the samurai , don't forget that samurai also trained in jujutsu so the karate factor is not that important

My sensei put me in charge of the junior class ( as a matter of fact , he forced me ) , and thats how i started to learn how to instruct , I am still a student at my style , I am not willing to be a full time instructor untill I stop fighting in tournaments , & i wouldn't recommand that someone starts instructing b4 he gets the tournaments fighting knowledge
