  1. I was in the same situation once , well , almost the same situation , I was training real hard and I was so confident about myself , I placed third in an international tournament knocking down two tough fighters , bottom line , we had a tournament coming , i was way so confident that i was going to place first , I won my first fight and the second fight was against a real hard fighter ( who I admire and respect ) , I lost the match , after the match I cried & I had the same feelings as you did , but then I realized that it is my fault , I was not training as hard as the other guy did , I was soooo confident & arrogant , and that made me train harder and never trust on my skills to much .
  2. Too bad . Good luck next time , the only time i participated in a TKD tournament i lost for striking hard and for using low kicks , it was a good experience though
  3. If the sword was within the hands of a real samurai then you won't stand a chance
  4. I'd try to get out of that street as fast as i can , and if I have to fight , i'd try to take out one of them from the first shot , and then , well who knows , it's a street situation ...
  5. What if you came to a dead end ?? what will you do ?? streets are not like a soccer field where the terrain is plain and no obstacles in the way , beside , you will get tired from running away , and when you get tired you won't be able to defend or strike .
  6. Okinawan , i know nothing about both , but I like Japanese styles
  7. Hello Taco101 , welcome to KF
  8. Hello & welcome
  9. Welcome , japanese karate
  10. LOl.......... Never done it , by I like to practice my katas while playing japanese music
  11. Yes , i assume that by bounds he means the competition area , I have never heard of such a rulle myself , and as what has been said b4 , most of kyokushin fighting is close range fighting . IKO1 u mean ????
  12. Yes , since TKD forms are originally karate katas
  13. A front kick to the knee would cause a lot of damage , we had a tournament last Sunday and i used it , my opponent got his knee badly injured
  14. lol Karate25 , it just happened that i was watching "the last samurai" movie , so i guess i will go with that suggestion & storm the dojo Seriously , i think it's more appropriate that i challenge him in the next tournament ( since i never got a response from him any way ) , thx all for ur replies
  15. I don't think thats a good idea 2 cross train between TKD and karate, it's like mixing Nescafe with Capoccino
  16. I have to disagree with you White Warlock, TKD is watered down version of shotokan with some Korean MAs based high kicks , how can it be that different ??? & as what jedimc said , karate and TKD share a lot of stances , blocks, strikes , forms ...... etc . TKD is a Korean version of karate
  17. 11 belts ????? that’s a lot of em , lol . I usually hate sparring with lower ranks cause i must take it easy on them , however , some of the green belts at our dojo can take a high amount of punishment so i just kick and punch them hard , this way they get used to fight black belts at tournaments .
  18. We had a training session today , and before the class started , a green belt came to me and told me that he visited another dojo and met a co-intructor who was in charge of the class cause the original sensei wasn't there , any way , after introducing himself and all , that sempai at the other dojo told the guy from our school that he once fought my sensei in a tournament and that he won over him . First let me tell you that this guy is 23 years old - 2 years older than me -I have NEVER seen him participating in any kind of tournaments , he is bad as an instructor - I have visited the school were he train once - his students are worse than him , and my sensei has stopped sparring since 1997 , probably at the time he was still a white belt . That statment made me real mad to say the last of it , I hate it when someone badmouth sensei so I sent him a message that dares him to fight me anytime , anywhere . Do you think that i have done the right thing ??
  19. " Am I the best student in the class or what "
  20. Any one has ever heard about that French karate instructor who was sparring with his female student ( she was also a black belt ) and he kicked her in the head and accidentally killed her ?? someone told me that the kick wasn’t that powerful , however , it caused her to die
  21. Consult a lawyer , but i don't thing that visiting a boxing gym is going to do any help since their tournament style requires gloves and karate - well , at least kyokushin karate - does not allow to wear any protective gear . I am against the cash prize thing , after all the main goal of competition is to test our metal not to win prizes , why not awarding the winner with a medal or a cup ??? Good luck
  22. From the way I c it , first is power then comes the control and then speed
  23. I usually prefer targetting the head , but yeah punching the throat is effective as well
  24. Sometimes , i intentionally hurt my friends , especially those who know that i train in martial arts , and want to prove a point by punching or grabbing me ( like they want to prove that martial arts training is useless or they want to know how hard can a martial artist be ) so ijust give them what they deserve And no , i have no problem with hurting people , my sensei told me once that if you wanna strike someone , don't give him the chance to strike back //* finish him *//
  25. Karate and sumo share the shoto and palm strikes , they also share the sumo stance , thats all i know about it
