  1. You shouldn't shave unless it really really bothers you to the point where you need a psychiatrist. You could say I'm hairy and I love my chest hair makes me feel like a real man, my girlfriend also prefers it. Her former boyfriend shaved everything everywhere and she says it was like touching a fish. Anyways that's her preferences. By the way I am doing laser treatment right now for the bottom of my neck because my beard curls back into my skin (don't know the term for this in english) and gives me rashes. All I can tell you is yes it does hurt a lot, but it is bearable (and the neck is one of the worst regions)
  2. My favourite sport and the one I practice most is ice hockey. I just love that game. This is the sport I am the most dedicated too. Don't understand why it's not more popular in the states it's such a fun sport to practice.
  3. No problem, I was just not aware of the style you just mentioned, I had no clue what it was.
  4. I still enjoy watching MMA fights, but I really liked it more when it was style vs. style like in the beginning, you could really see different types of fighters. Nowadays they almost all fight the same way.
  5. One thing's sure you should really practice some grappling and ground fighting before entering such tournaments. You may be the best wing chunner in the world, but you can always get grappled to the ground. Anyways good luck to you, and tell us how it goes if you ever decide to go forward.
  6. One thing is sure I wouldn't like to face one that's for sure!!
  7. I doubt a bodybuilder could beat a sumo wrestler. First sumo wrestlers are also very powerful, second, their weight gives them a great advantage and they are surprisingly quick for their size, and lastly sumo has some techniques, it's not just pushing.
  8. I second that, best advice someone can give you I fear, unless you join a tae kwon do club that stresses only kicking.
  9. Well, I don't want to be biased but of all the styles you mentioned the only one which has a lot of ground work is judo, and since you already have a black belt in tae kwon do, being good at takedowns and being good on the ground would give your fighting abilities a huge boost.
  10. I would of enjoyed seeing him in a MMA event, too bad he never did.
  11. It's David 'the crow' Loiseau, he's from Quebec, Canada, where I'm from, and yes he's a pretty good fighter, starting to make a name for himself in the states now.
  12. John Bishop wrote: Thanks again, I'll contact him
  13. All Wing Chun classes should be like that to cover it's obvious weaknesses in grappling and groundfighting.
  14. Here' a wing chun clip: http://www.fightauthority.com/movies/accion3.wmv
  15. Well I don't know anything about Kali, so I can't answer for this one, but I picked Wing Chun for having practiced it for a while. I would really like to take Krav Maga since I'm sure it is very useful also, but in the long run I'm sure Wing Chun is more complete (although no ground game). Just look at this clip, it is convincing: http://www.fightauthority.com/movies/accion3.wmv
  16. Thanks for the tip, too bad they're both in Montreal. It's a two hour drive from Hull/Ottawa, but thanks anyways.
  17. Yes I agree with this, Height, although a positive thing in most situations, is really more advantageous for strikers than grapplers.
  18. Hi, do you guys know if there is a Kajukenbo school in Hull (now called Gatineau), Quebec, Canada. Or in Ottawa (two cities seperated by a bridge). I'm moving to Hull next summer and I'm interested by this style. Thanks in advance if you can help me.
  19. Well for Judo I think they are quite obvious. Great for stand-up grappling and throws, as well as good ground fighting. Also, full contact randori makes you test your skills for real. Weaknesses, no punching or kicking per say, and no training in weapons.
  20. You're right, Van Damme did Shotokan. In this case I'd have to say, many of Van Damme's movies, Sonny Chiba's the street fighter series, the best of the best movies and Karate Kid (must admit although cheesy it's classic)
  21. To be effective in Wing Chun it takes a long time. I think elbows_and_knees is right when he says it may be quicker than other kung fu styles. But versus other styles in general it is not a quick fix. Just managing to deflect your opponents attacks effectively is long to get good at, and that's a major part of the style.
  22. Good posts E MacP, nice to hear about some personal experiences when you had to use your Judo
  23. I think it started out as a serious thread, but some people just made fun of it. I liked your post though.
  24. It depends of the martial art you practice also. When I did Wing Chun my sifu told me he'd like the other guy to throw the first punch. Knowing Wing Chun I can understand this because of their trapping techniques, but in other arts it's probably better to throw the first punch.
