Well..don't tell anybody I told you this...but if you go to the corner of main street at 2:03 in your city, there will be a man named iteeshu muchschit. He will be able to teach it to you, this is where I learned it. But you can't let it out to ANYBODY, 'cuz if I make the monks angry it'll come bacck to get you. -
18 hands of Lohan

We learned all the hand movements, I forget quite a few, but one was snake hands, then another was a spear hand, etc...it was a beautiful kata. -
Sounds like eveyrbody's pretty much in the same boat for the stiffness of the boat, but everybody does seem to like different sizes.

Ok Ok, in all seriousness, I think this thread needs to be shut down. I don't want to let out the secret and get MY monthly newsletter from the Shaolin Temple suspended for one year too! -
Well if somebody has a joint lock on me, i don't mind going to my back...guard is a perfect position for me

grabbing the arm is last step? It's first step for us, grab, jerk of balance, hips, under, balance, throw.

How does everybody like the fit of their belt? By this I mean, do you like it really really broken in, do you like your belt stiff and sticking straight out, or do ya like that normal not too stiff but not too loose look? Personally I like mine quite broken in, where they have those natural curves...if I didn't just confuse you all there.

I totally agree, he was out of our style (obviously, since it takes 8-9 years to get one in our system) and he was wearing a black gi...He had no patches so I couldn't tell what style he was from..but it was just crazy...the thing is, his sister was too!

Hmm..a touchy topic..but I do think an age rank should be put on a black belt...maybe they should have junior ranks or something. I was at a tournament today and saw a 6 year old black belt...a 6 year old black belt! I was like, holy cow, thtat kid must have gotten his in like 2 years. I definitely think that you should earn the respect, and be able to perform the task at hand, and if a 10 year old can dot hat, then fine, but I think a black belt comes with time, and maturity is part of being a black belt, something I just don't think any 6 year old has yet.

Eh? Haha some people like that so it makes them look like they are in lower stances than they really are when they are doing katas. Personally, I like a belt that reaches mid calf. Not too long, not too short.

Umm....I think that's the bunny rabbit technique where ya hop like a bunny and run from your opponent(hey ya said feel free to b.s. it..haha)

When i went into the martial arts, I was (and still am) quite the athlete...baseball, football, skateboarding, and any other sporting activities that i could. I remember my first class like it were yesterday...my sensei was very impressed and had me fight only the black belts so he could observe my fighting more, and I took to forms quite fast, and my weapons form (sai kata) I learned in 1 week before a competition. I'm nearly no where to a master, but my instructor is 10th dan in karate, 10th dan in jujitsu, and 6th dan in judo...and he has taught me very well.

Pshh I don't know what you guys are talking about, this move is completely real. When I did it on my doggie she fell over and didn't move for about 6 days. I decided to take her to a doctor and the doctor told me her heart had exploded...when asked what happened, I said I gave my doggy 5 point palm exploding heart strike, and the doctor gasped...and did it to me. Somehow I managed to live, man oh man I didn't know my doctor did kungfurate. -
All martial arts are "martial arts" in their own way, most just teach different things...but any and all martial arts were either started for a religious discipline, to learn to fight an enemy or opponent, or for strong mind/body.

I don't know about you guys, but personally I prefer that southern shaolin northern indian native american korean knife fighting video that teaches you how to survive a street attack within 3 minutes..now THAT's a quality martial art. -
That's the way we are also taught, plus a few other applications...but mainly for powerful hip chambered punches.

hahaha

Yeah, it is necessary, especially for places with large and very nice dojos, but to those people who charge a hidden fee for everything, I hate that.

Today I had a tournament and got a jumpkick in, everybody said I scored but the judges didn't call it...but ohh well that comes with the territory.

Exactly, it will help you out with your movements, and help you understand what you have been doing all along more in depth. Just have fun with it.
