That's what I think all places should be like, althought he only fees I really have to pay is my membership each year when it needs to be renewed, and my belt tests. When it comes to tournaments, I also have to pay for those, but who doesn't?
-
Hmm..possibly you're right, and congratulations mr. yeller belt.

Whoa this smells fishy!!

Sure I could google it, but there's no point in doing that, so therefore..I won't. -
Kung Fu or not
1kickKO replied to dippedappe's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I think it's kung fu, but moreso a branch of itself, rather than in kung fu like the different "styles" of kung fu..if you know what I mean. -
hehehe...that's when a few good elbows come in handy...does anybody ever do army crawls? That's where ya have one partner lay ont heir back and you have to crawl up them (hitting all pressure points) just using elbows, then you have to turn back around and go back down them, then they have to lay on their back and you go through the same process. Then it's YOUR turn to lay on your stomach and then on your back. This is to get used to where to hit a person or rub your elbows into them to make 'em squeal like a pig if ya need to.

..haha yeah until you fly off of one.

It's funny to see how many variations there are to a kata.

Hmm...these kind of people always turn out to be those weird serial killer stalker people.

Capoeira....what do you guys think of it as Combative?

Speaking of movies, one of the teachers at my school was in top gun...he was an extra...he's the guy who spills the cofee in the watch tower as the planes fly really low. -

There's no proof of him "winning"...look at his website, you'll see what I mean. -
Basically I view as weapons as just an "extension" as your open handed techniques. If you look at your kata, empty handed and weapons katas, you will notice that you can do your weapons katas with no weaponry, and your open-handed katas with weapons.

No problem, sometimes it's right under your nose..I know this from experience..one class I forgot to unite my strings, and I felt it starting to rip, in the middle of grappling, I untied my strings and they were fine after that..hehe. Also, untying your strings can do this. If you're grappling, if somebody grabs at you with your strings tied they can generally control you since your gi is staying shut and won't go anywhere...but if your gi just flies open what will they think when they're trying to pull you by your gi and they lose their grip? This is also a great way for judges to see somebody's not playin' fair...

I'm afraid to fail someone...
1kickKO replied to afitzwater's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Well, not passing somebody who doesn't deserve to be passed seems more important than having a complaint filed. If they do, just tell the city how things are generally run in the martial arts. You pass your belt tests when you are ready...if not, then that could mean you'd have somebody with an ego full of what they don't know out on the streets. -
Surprisingly I see that most people in my system and many many others who fail, always come abck a second time, and generally end up getting their belt.
-
The only thing I can say is ...SAFETY GEAR! lol.
-
well I leave both strings untied...I pretty much rely on my belt to keep my gi shut, also since it's a heavyweight it doesn't come open too much..but when you grapple..of course it'll come done sometimes..hahaha...but I just pretty much rely on my belt..I do this every time I grapple (so does everybody else in my dojo) so that the ties don't break, because it's VERY often that the ties for sure will break if you grapple or do much throwing.
-
I really like the blue gis, but I wear white and am totally fine with it.
-
The ties break? Maybe you should untie them...that's what I have to do when I practice jujitsu.
-
I think it depends...personally I think all knowledge should be passed on, but only to certain groups that the sensei feels is ready to learnt he material. If he feels they are not/ will never be ready to learn and take it in, then that sensei should have the right not to teach it.

The Shaolin temple uses a technique where they will take a flower pot, will it with sand, and punch it to it about 100 times a day.

I use century gear...it's great and lasts super long.

Kung Fu or not
1kickKO replied to dippedappe's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I agree, in a sense. Tai Chi is not quite a kung fu style, but moreso a style within itself. Wushu is a kung fu style though. -
Apparently he has a poetic urge to get his new belt. Good luck..I think.

The monte carlo's like a dull gray isn't it? Really rusted? That's how I remember it. -
I agree, belts/sashes are to hold your pants up. Don't worry so much about your sash, it's just a mere rank and means nothing. You could be awhite belt and hold the knowledge a black belt has, it's just the different color in belts..don't worry about it. I'm sure your sensei will let you know when you are ready. Just keep practicing hard and show him you are ready.
