A proper running gait will land somewhere on the heel, and "roll" towards the front of the foot. This is how I run

What's up man! Your best bet instead of me typing up a book of stuff that you can do, is to check out this website. The first link if for the muscle groups that you want to target. Click on them, and they will show you a variety of workouts with pics The second link is to a list of hundred of workout plans. You can choose when you want to workout, and how to workout. Lastly, I would recoment spending $100 and getting a bench that is flat, and can incline, with an olympic bar bell. You can probably get if for cheaper at some used sports stores. Fire away any other questions. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htm http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/workoutdatabase.htm

Relax. It's not going to be the first time that you cannot train. Use this time to practice. Try practicing more than usual.

Awesome! Pain with celebration! -
It's hard to say. I run with my heals landing first because that's a softer landing for me. I know this is not what should be done, but if I run other ways, I get lower back pain. I'm reverting back to my elliptical for the rest of the winter. There almost no impact on these babies, and they're a full body workout!

Rollerblading, cycling, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, aerobics, etc. Anything you do that will keep your heartrate between 65% - 85% of your max for 20 minutes or more will constitute a cardio workout. However, the "shredded" look that you seen on bodybuilders at competitions, is the result of having less than 2% bodyfat (Usually around .5 - 1%), which is unhealthy for any extended period of time. Anything less than 5% bodyfat requires very strict diet and fluid maintenance regimens. Aodhan 2% for competition body building? I don't know about all that. I have seen at almost every show that I have been to, and that my uncle has told me about about 4-5%bf. That is shredded! Medically, a person with less than 3% BF would need to eat all the time to survive. under 2% is just not possible (borderline death), unless they're starving themselves.

Snow, and a raise

I know my body will tell me when to stop but I need an idea.

As Aodhan said, you're still young. Allow your body to properly grow. Enjoy being young. -
Just curious, how come you're looking for just a Shorin-Ryu only? If it's for the reason of style against style, I can understand that.

MCDOJO! You must ignore this site and all others like it. Remember that there are no short cuts, maybe shorter cuts, but definitely no plain short ones. The real secret in MA training is to find the right MA, for you, and the right school/instructor and then train like a fanatic without ever giving up....

Does this place have a webpage? Be very careful when looking into JKD. A lot of Dojo's claim they teach this great art the Bruce Lee founded, but a lot are McDojo's. If you're going to look into that school, Try to trace the lineage back to Bruce Lee. Yes, it's true that even if he was taught by BL, that he still might not know what he's doing, but you have a better shot at that, then going in with someone who says they have studied with someone who knows someone who use to know a friend that washed Bruce Lee's car. Catch my drift?

Really??????!!!!!! If that's the case, I have lost respect for him. I think he's a great fighter, and is well conditioned, but that is just.... I'm at a lose for words. I remember when I first started weight training, and getting into this stuff, I was reading a lot of articles on him. Truely a disapointment

Well, the person who told you that running is self defense is correct. Removing yourself or running from a bad situation doesn't make you any less of a man. If anything, it's makes you the bigger man. Many martial arts if used and taught effectively can be deadly. By you showing restraint and walking away, you are the bigger man. Example: Someone starts a fight with you for no reason in a bar. Instead of putting up your dukes, ask to by him a drink. Apologize for whatever happened, whether it's your fault or not. Hopefully this will make them happy, and you have just won the situation and are the bigger man. Now... if this happens: Someone comes up to you with a gun, asking for your wallet, give them your wallet. You're not match for a gun. If that same someone was to tell you that they're going to have their way with you, then your loved one that you're with, it's time to use force, even deadly if needed. It's my belief that when put into danger that can be seen as deadly, then deadly force is permitted. If someone is going to hurt my loved one, I'm going down swing. A famous saying here is it's better to be tried by 12 then carried by 6. I would say to check out Brazilian JJ or Muay Thai. Both are excellent striking arts, and will get you into great shape if the time ever came to use force. Welcome to the forums and good luck with your studies!

Awesome decision. I too have changed my lifestyle as well. Last November, I weighed 257lbs, and today, I'm 187. 70lbs lost. I went from 36+ bodyfat to 16%. I just had my wedding, and the holidays are tough. A little advice, enjoy the holidays. Achieving that low of a body fat is going to be tough. Believe me. I'm on a very strict diet, and workout plan. But, I always enjoy holidays, birthdays and vacations. I'm off my diet then. It's good for your body. It almost throws it out of wack, then once you get back onto it, you'll be kicking butt again. Keep me up to date how things go.

Well, ask your doctor about it. He might be able to prescribe the medication for it.

I'm usually bashful when I receive compliments. I try to turn it around on the person who threw out the compliment with something complimenting them......

Christmas baby! I love decorating, christmas music, snow (if it happens), shopping at the malls, and driving around looking at the lights on houses. I think it has a lot to do with having great Christmas seasons as a child.

A sport art is still a martial art. Can the Boxer KO you with his punches? Can the thai boxer KO you with his elbows_and_knees? Can the bjj guy snap your limb in half? Can the Judoka Throw you on your head? If so, then what we are doing is every bit as martial as what you are doing. Why wouldn't it be? Now, in terms of point fighting you see associated with traditional styles, I would say that it is still martial art, albeit very watered down. Even the XMA guys learn the traditional kata, AFAIK, but they compete with their flashy stuff. Then step it up a notch - jump into a cage. Most of your techniques will be allowed in an mma match... having the 'vital areas' covered is not what would make them less effective. It is their training. If you are training for a point competition, you will fight like you trained for a point competition. I agree. Well put

I agree. Do not turn the other cheek. However, the best method is to always contact the proper authorities. If the school teachers/counselors/principal cannot do anything, or they refuse, contact the local police. Let both know that if nothing is done, and if the attackers continue, you will be forced to defend yourself. Docmenting that you took the time to let someone know of the problem will help if a court case/law suit arrives.

Based upon what you have told us, I would like to ask a few question before telling you what is a good art to study. 1. Why do you want to street fight? This term you are using "street fighter" is it for the means of self defense, or are you going out looking for fights/getting paid to fight? 2. What is fueling this ambition of yours? 3. Have you personally gone to these dojo's before? Have you told them what you want? Whether you answer my question or not, any martial art will be good in self-defense (some have their advantages such as ground work and grappling, other are stricking striking arts). However, you must realize the best way to win a street fight, is to not be there. Think I speak follish? Can you stop bullets? Most street fights are always ended with someone dying. Can you carry that on your shoulders? Do you realize the responsiblitie you carry when you learn these arts? I think before you go off and study anything, you need to ask yourself why you're doing this. I feel a sence of "movie-fiction" behind your post.
