  1. depends no what sort of style your isntructor takes with sparring....are you talkign full contact, semi, or light? Point sparring?
  2. yeah thats what everyone learned - you at least need to be adept at grappling... otherwise if you lose the distance your striking's goign to be useless
  3. Ok - so when you say higher form of kata - do you mean a different approach? OR just a new set?

  7. good point, i completely forgot abotu that..... Luckily I've never come across an instructor who doesnt like getting hit... mine just tends to hit me back. Another thing to look for might be consistency, that the trainign style and theory remains constant.
  8. yeah - but he had abnormal reach for his height didnt he.... and then ur only talking about boxing....
  9. I agree in some ways.... however it depends on what u want out ofthe trianing..... if you dont want them to bleed together and learn 2 distinct martial arts then wait... however if you just want to pick and choose different areas then cross trainign at any stage may work... the only problem maybe an understanding of the application of different moves, and how they relate to each other.
  10. ur crescent is ur most powerful? as in force or just speeD?

  15. yep okay - but he was talking about trained people - all teh people i train with wouldnt initiate like that.... but i take the point that in this situation the striker is the agressor and so would follow up .... just saying its not wise thats all
  16. yeah - but as with most conditioning stuff you cause irreversible damage to your joints.....
  17. yeah - think its better just to get down to trainign - thats why ur there!
  18. lol - say it will help you gain a "deeper understanding" of the Martial Arts world and help with your Karate practice..... dunno really.....

  23. streching books are great..... machines can help with some people but if you stretch correctly anyway - theyre' unnecessary.
  24. sound advise.... also go buy a strethcing book (i highly recommend stretching scientifically by Tom Kurz) and work on a routine to build up the strength of your knees..... that can help a whole world - what i did for mind since my many breakages.
