  1. Welcome to KF!
  2. Then again, I've seen people get knocked out from the slam.

  4. Welcome to the forums. Is Shotokan Jutsu the same as just Shotokan?
  5. We don't have too many rules- don't beat the living daylights out of each other, don't kick to the groin. Basically don't hurt the other person too much (although everyone is going to get bruised up) We try to control to the face, some level of contact the the body. Targets: head, body, feet (sweeps) Green belts and up practice with black belts. We'll do step sparring and work up to free kumite. Not sure what blue belts and below do. Also, we usually break after a few seconds if someone goes down. For example, last week, I caught someone's kick and brought them down, then stomped kicked them (not too hard), but them I let them up. If you both go down, you might struggle on the ground for a bit but them one person says okay, and you both get up.
  6. Mix: ASE gloves Bike hard cup Shock doctor mouthguard Like Jiffy said, they're all pretty much the same. Look around, see if you can find a good price and good customer reviews.
  7. One of my BJJ friends was showing me, if they have their legs hooked around you and they're working a choke, you pull up one of their legs and high as you can and spin so you end in their guard. In a real fight, I'd try to grab the groin, or elbow where ever I can. In a match, I can tap out, no big deal.
  8. I saw this one time a guy in PRIDE FC (I think) tried to slam the guy who had his arm and the guy getting slammed turned so when he came down, he landed on his front so the slammers arm got torked by his own slam. I think that broke the other guys arm.
  9. Actually, I was thinking of a different flying armbar- Not the one where you swing your leg over the head like in that post but more like this: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=9037089211322372528&q=flying+armbar or http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7016470824450102196&q=flying+armbar or http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2378891641554410404&q=flying+armbar The way I do it, you swing your bent leg into their armpit as you jump and bring your other leg over the head and across the chest.
  10. That's what I would try. In a real fight, if they're trying to work a choke, I'd try grabbing the fingers and cracking a few. Or reaching back and grabbing the groin.
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cu3LzTvttXc This is a match of Hee Tae Hwang vs. Izumi Hiroshi Can someone please watch this and explain why Hee Tae Hwang got hansoku?
  12. I tried it tonight when I was sparring with another BB at the dojo. I pulled it off, but I didn't have good enough control of his arm so he pulled out. I grabbed his legs but he started dropping elbows and knees on me (not actually hitting though) I learned my lesson. Looks cool but it's too risky. If he had been smaller than me, the flying armbar would have brought him to the ground. But he was bigger than me. He could have slammed me or ground-and-pound. I've decided that in a real situation, if I get into a clinch, a collar and elbow position (which you need to be in for the flying armbar), a simple knee to the groin will decrease the potential that they will follow me when I run away and decrease potential risk.
  13. If you know that the guy is unarmed, has nobody backing him up, and you think you can pull it off, would you risk using it?
  14. So what are they wearing? I agree
  15. What's your opinion of the flying armbar? If you know that you can get it and you're sure no one else is going to attack you, would you go for it? I was at the beach with my dojo today (a special training that we do there once a year). Afterwards, I was practicing the flying armbar with a friend. I've always had trouble with this before, but I figured it out today. I like this technique because you can get it from standing/clinch- no grappling for a position. Would you ever use this in a real situation (provided the ground is something like grass)?
  16. My dad (former wrestler) was teaching me how to bridge as a neck exercise. He says I should talk to a trainer about this because he doesn't want me to hurt my back. I want to build up my neck muscles before I start school (where a trainer is) but I don't want to hurt my back. How should I do this exercise to keep from hurting my back? For those who don't know what bridging is, you lie flat on you back with your knees bent, then "bridge" and roll back on your head a bit, maybe roll side to side. Any advice is appreciated. Also, what should I do to strengthen my back?
  17. Welcome to KF
