  1. Well, baronbvp, here's a response to "Latest training injury". (I like your avatar by the way) Tonight, a guy fell on my foot (so his butt was on my foot) then fell back on my knee. This forced my knee straight. I fell backwards and was down for around 30 secs- 1 min, it was somewhat painful, on a scale of 1-10, I would say a 5 or 6. I got up, took it slow for a while, but was able to finish off full speed. As I sit writing this, it doesn't hurt, but feels a bit strange. I have three questions: First, how do I know if I messed it up? I think it's okay, can I be sure? Second, if it is damaged, what do I need to do? Last, if it is not seriously damaged, what should I do to make sure it stays okay? Thanks in advance, Joey
  2. Read about that in the paper. Pretty crazy.
  3. My friend is selling me his old iPod. It's a 2004 fourth generation without color or photos, but it has 20 GB of memory. He is selling it for less than $50. I have a 1 GB nano which I payed $150 for. The problem is, it doesn't hold enough. I've had to keep shuffling to stay within the limit. The one I'm going to buy has 20 times the memory and is a third of the price. My friend is letting me borrow it for the next week. It's really nice being able to load everything without having to worry about how many songs I have, but I want to know if I should buy it. What should I look for to decide if I am going to buy it. Should I get it? P.S. the condition: scratched in multiple places, but it doesn't bother me.
  4. Welcome to KF, good to have another Shotokan person on board.
  5. Wow... that's pretty intense. As long as we're on the subject, I'll share my "war stories": The last black belt test was the roughest, a girl got her nose broken, she didn't even say anything until the end. And then she said, "Now I look just like my sensei" One of our guys was walking... limping... with a crutch for a while afterwards. That same test, I got kicked in the head twice, once to the jaw, the other to the base of the skull. I had to go the ER. I passed that test. I failed the test six months before. I got punched in the face and my mouth guard got knocked out of place, I came and punched him, he got me again and my mouth was bleeding a lot. Good times.
  6. I am Green Lantern
  7. I've heard some complaints about the Evergel wraps. I saw them and Target and was considering buying them, but I think I'm going to look around a bit more.
  8. I read a lot, mostly fiction. I'm currently reading SEALS Sub Strike: Operation Black Snow by S.M. Gunn.
  9. Hi, I need some advice on sprawling. I'm really having trouble sprawling. When my wrestling teacher (I'm lucky enough to get taught one on one) shoots, I can never react with a sprawl. I always end up trying to grab him and when I go down, I try to tie up his arms, but he always manages to get out of it and mount me or whatnot. How do I get sprawling to be my natural reaction? Thanks in advance.
  10. Ditto, he seems like a really pleasant guy.
  11. Happy New Year! Still have a little over 7 hours to go for CA
  12. I would like to grow 3-4 more inches and gain 35-40 more pounds before I am done growing. I'm currently 5'7" and 130. So my question is what should I do? For example, what should I eat, how much, how should I work out, how much sleep, what I shouldn't do, etc. So basically, I just want advice on what I should do to help me in growing and gaining weight. Thanks in advance.
  13. I play guitar now- my friend and I are trying to write a couple of songs. Used to play clarinet and piano.
  14. On vacation, I wake up on my own. During school, my mom ("mommy") wakes me up. (Yes, I'm lazy... they know they can't trust me to wake up without hitting the snooze ten times) This week, I have been waking up early to babysit, by alarm clock (I hit snooze twice this morning before I realized I really needed to get up) I used to use multiple alarm clocks, but not anymore. For some reason, I keep on finding my alarm clock on the floor in the mornings.
  15. I've got a pair of handwraps, and a pair of really thin bag gloves- they're good for speed bag but they're a little thin for heavy bag. My hands are somewhat conditioned now from hitting the thin gloves- at first, I bloodied up my knuckles, but now, they're fine. I'll look at Sportmart. Thanks for your help.
  16. Books, and what I got for Christmas: A speed bag to replace the one I broke (twice) And a 100 lb heavy bag
  17. Okay, thanks! I looked around, the only thing I found was younger people shouldn't strike a makiwara. Also, shin conditioning isn't recommended for younger people. P.S. What bag gloves do you guys recommend?
  18. Well, I got a heavy bag for Christmas- 100 lbs. I'm working a lot of jab cross punches and mostly roundhouse kicks, with a few front kicks and knees. Are you all sure? I want to grow another 3-4 inches before I'm done. I'm 5'7", I want to be 5'10" or 5'11". P.S. I also got a speed bag- I broke the other one.
  19. I use a hand held
  20. Usually listen to music and look around online or email.
  21. Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!

  23. good point, make sure it's not too much up and down and try to shift in and out. A little bit of up and down is no big deal, just don't come up too high.
