  1. He seems like a joke to me and I spent about two seconds on the site - all I needed to know! Useless git!
  2. Well done Pal - but you don't have to be older to be commited! I'm only 20 and have been commited for years (some think I should be committed to a mental asylum......but that is a different story!!)
  3. Thanks for all the inromation guys - Been a real help.
  4. Which "uke" are we talking about - any three?? Uki means block - have we got a specific one? Anyway - after three blocks down the middle we want Chudan Mae-Geri followed up with stepping into a short cross stance and backfist to the face and KIAI!
  5. TKD is developed from Karate remember - I think that source was grossly mis-informed. Both of them can be lethal - Karate is supposed to be on strike-one "kill" as Shukokai2000 said! But TKD has similar techniques. And as mentinoed depends on the focuse of it. WTF has evolved into sport more - ITF seems to have more real application - I may be wrong!
  6. Yup - it has happened to me - with a chest infection type thing (I shouldn't have been training really). Just sounds pathetic when that happens don't it?!
  7. U go Girl!
  8. I have thought about Kiai-noises before and how funny they can be. The funniest I ever heard was a kid who literally sounded like a goose honking! I have also taught kids who just shout the word "Kiai"! My Kiaia now adays is kind of like a "ee-yaah!" But it can vary lots. It sometimes sounds a bit like I am doing a very quick evil laugh type thing like "Aah-Hahyha!" Kind of thing - It is so funny reading how people try to spell it - same with mine really! But basically - however I do it and however it sounds - I always make sure it is loud!
  9. Shukokai (Also known as Tani-Ha Shito-Ryu) Therefore I voted in "other!"
  10. otoshi-uchi, turn and slap to groin of person behind you
  11. Not it isn't - I recently read an article that interviewed Carlos Gracie Jr. He said (and he should know) that they started teaching JJJ to his father - then after the war they wanted to keep it more of a secret and said : "Hey - why don't you learn the 'new ju jitsu' it is called Judo" and Carlos said he wanted to carry on learning traditional Ju jitsu. Then he went on and developed his own style...BJJ. Try going to http://www.gracieacademy.com/ or http://bjj.org That is where the original style is talked about. Judo is basically a sport version of ju jitsu - all the most "deadly" moves have been removed from the system.
  12. On the ground - underneath - you are limited so make it count - don't waste energy and go for the weak areas - ie- eyes or pressure points like the temple or back of the head. If you are on top it is about keeping your balance and striking quickly and getting back low. That is my Humble opinion - So I look forward to hearing from people with a little more experience than me in this area!
  13. Thanks Shorin Ryuu, It sounds interesting - I am really into controlling an opponent and just showing them up ina way! haha Being in control of some moron's body is cool and lots of fun!
  14. Well i started when I was about 6 or 7 - I think because my Dad thought it might be good and I saw a demonstration and thought it was cool. But then obviously I was only little and enjoyed it for years , then I went off it for a bit but kept training for the sake of it. When I got to about 11 or 12 I got more into it - and by the time I hit about 15 (I was training for 2nd Dan at this point) I was loving it like an obsession and I wanted to learn more M.A's - not just Karate! So now it is a passion, an obsession, a lifestyle, a hobby and a calling! hehe
  15. I have tried google but I am too lazy to read all that stuff! hehe So is it basically Korea's version of Ju Jitsu?! Or have I got the wrong end of the stick!?
  16. Why am I last?? hehe Anyway - I see what you are saying - I had a similar experience of this happening but I knew the guy - he pushed me and I decided to....in a pure martial arts momnet of inspiration ....push him back! lol But the difference is I could push a lot harder and I followed up by walking right up to him.....funnily enough he backed off! Curious!
  17. Found this spelling - HIKITE It is in one of our Kata's. I just put it in as an arty part and now I will give the next move seeing as you haven't yet! from hikite turn 180 degrees into arm break and repeat motion so facing the other side (one you started at before this post! Next move ladies and gents......
  18. It is a movement that just turns the wrist and is a grab - like - move. I must have so spelt it wrong!
  19. With this being my 100th post I decided to ask a question that I forgot to ask for a while now - What is Hapkido? I don't know much about it other than it is a Korean art - and I'm not that sure it is Korean! So any answers would be appreciated - I'm not too worried about who founded it etc - but what it involves and is it a mix of TKD and Grappling or something! But like I say - any info will be welcome! Cheers in advance guys!
  20. First and foremsot if the guy is pushing you it is likely he is about to start something - but try looking at Geoff Thompsons work on the fence. BUT Just to add my opinion on my fave ways to deal with a push (U can pretty much make these work for any height): 1) As the guy comes in to push - at the peak of his momentum, just take a slight step back and gring both arms rouns the outised of his, then up, then round and down. So the hands go round his arms and down to scopp out. Shown here below from your point of view as the defender: (I made this picture - quite the artist aren't i?! ) http://cafe.cic.hull.ac.uk/~icb02kj/defence2.bmp As you do this move you should move your head to one side because your opponent will come straight forward at you. Imagine when you lean into somthing and it suddenly isn't there- all that momentum causes you to go forwards - QUICKLY! The arms are spread outwards in this motion so if you were super quick you could just move out of his way and he would run into the wall behind you! hehe - But you'd have to teleport really ! And that just takes too much enegry! lol From this you can do all kinds of stuff. A grappling answer is to move into him as he comes forwards and wrap your arms round his chest for a trip-kind of takedown. A strikers answer may be some thing more of using the knee on the inside of him to strike the gut hard and fast and maybe finish with an elbow to the back of the head?! 2 - Another on is to step back slightly again and (this can be tricky) is to simply grab the fingers (beacuase pushes use open hands) and then to imagine you are lying a plane and ur trying to drop height fast - you twist your wrists up and forwards in a tight circular motion. This usually causes someone to at leats pratially drop to their knees from which a swift front kick to th face should work a treat! Just use a partner in your training to play with these and all other options shown above. just don't hurt your partner too much! hehe Good Luck and Have Fun! p.s - I so know what you mean by dedicated but bored - all changes for me in a Dojo! Never bored but evben more dedicated!
  21. I have a question - WHAT IS CHIN NA?!
  22. Make that gyaku-zuki-shuto-uchi...then from that leading guards hand out drop back into Cat Stance (Neiko Achi) and hikketi with front hand. (My spelling maybe out I've been drinking already!) *hich*
  23. Welcome to the Forums Ed! I agree with what a couple of others have posted - BLITZ. They do some great gi's. But I dunno if they do them in USA! Try this website for more : https://www.bltizsport.com They do a good gi called teh Silver Gi - Mid range expense - I wore mine to death! The White Diamond is a great gi too but u will be paying a bit more - but if you are gonna stay in Karate for a while then it is definitely worth investing!
  24. It's a top site Patrick - Thanks and well done! Let's all keep posting!! YAY!
  25. I think u just missed the Shito-Ryu/Shukokai open. Thisnk it was last month in Sheffield
