U make me laugh Taku - a real Ninja ain't you (I'm not trying to be insulting by the way!) -
I was driving the other day in the wet and the dark and in my headlights I saw a police-man in the middle of the road with his arm out....I thought "He's never going to be strong enough!"......he bounced off the bonnet and landed on the floor! I Pulled over and he said "You're a very silly boy aren't you?!!" I said: "I'm not the one lying out there in the rain am I?!" He put his head through the window - which was funny cos it wasn't open at the time!!! He said "Are you the driver of this vehicle?!" I said well it is an automatic but I have still got to be here!!!" Unbelievable! ____________ Another time I was driving and I had approached a roundabout too fast - I tried to put the brakes on but ended up in a skid, hit the curb and flipped the car three times. I managed to escape unharmed but the officer attending said : "Have you been drinking sir?!" I said: "OF COURSE I'VE BEEN DRINKING . I'M NOT A STUNT MAN!!!!"

Well Hoopee for Shotokan! But seriously - Shukokai developed by using this plyometric power you are talking about - and we were one of the first styles to use these impact pads in training and in every grading (at least in SKU it is in gradings)! found at http://www.shukokai-skf.com/ found at http://www.caernarfon4visitors.co.uk/zanshin/shukokai.html

"Pop ups" (not sure of the name)
username9 replied to UsagiYojimbo's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well I have tried to do it for years on end - then I gave up doing it cos I had damaged my shoulder and trying a nip up wasn't helping - then I started trying again recently and so very nearly got it - but have stopped trying again now - I will sulk for a while - then try do it again! I used to think that it was my weight that was the problem - I am not fat (not world's most toned guy - but not fat). But I do weigh heavy - but then I saw guys like The Rock doing it perfectly and even the Big Show did it (by using a ring rope to help) and I figured - if those guys can do it - I can do it! I'm still trying - Guess what I'll be trying at training tonight!! I still reckon it is easier for lighter guys though! -
Where is your Martial Arts "Home"??
username9 replied to username9's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
First things first - that's not a cop out - that is pretty much what I was asking - do you consider yourself to have a home or do you not think of it like that?! Any answer works for me! As for learning from anything - I have the same philosophy - it is just that I seem to centre around Japanese arts! Although I am keen to study Krav Maga - which is Israeli in origin! And Taku - you really seem to like Ninja - I don't know much about Ninjitsu except that it seems to be a very different approach to most other martial arts - on of my instructors went to a cross-style seminar where people were asked to explain what they would to to an attacker in a given situation. The particular situation was if someone had broken into your home. Everyone explained what they would do - eg locks ,restraints etc etc...the ninjitsu guy said he'd be hiding in the wardrobe ready to kill him at first chance or something wierd - think he might have taken it a bit far! lol -
Traditionalism verses Reality-Based Fighting
username9 replied to NineTailedFox's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Fair point - but most reality based arts are not sport based arts!! They are the opposite - that's the point of many of them! -
Where is your Martial Arts "Home"??

username9 replied to 11Ben's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
The original Gracie schools should still teach it as self-defence. SChools such asGracie Academy and Gracie Barra! -
That chick in Soul Caliber 2 uses something like that!

One of my fave films for comedy is BASEketballe - from South park creators. That film is funny - I like Snatch too but it ain't meant to be as funny as it is!

Trying to gain weight...happening veeeery slowly
username9 replied to BritNoob's topic in Health and Fitness
Sure fire ways of piling on weight - just make sure u carry on lifting to be successful in turning it into muscle: Go on a seefood diet - see food and eat it!!! In your case it looks like you have a really fast metabolism - so it won't hurt to eat lots of pizza and stuff like that! Eat before bedtime - as long as it doesn't weigh heavily on ur stomach eat before bed. Anabolism - that is the weight gaining process of the body occurs at night when u are asleep! A good idea is to eat cottage cheese because it steadily releases protein overnight aloowing you to grow. Definitely change ur weight training habits - as has been mentioned try pyramid building and drop-setting etc. Good Luck Pal -
Where is your MA "home". I am a Japanese kind of practitioner. As in I have studied Karate and Ju Jitsu....I did TKD but didn't stick with it. Whereas I have friends who only like studying Kung Fu and Chinese arts! Do you find silimar ideas or do you just train in anything?!
