  1. Interesting mate - but the SKA site seems to ignore the SKF? Doe they still exist! I train with the SKU which looks to be original Shukokai in UK! (Not that I am dissing others!) Just shows that fool that seemed to be putting Shukokai down just cos they hadn't heard of it. it is a powerful and dynamic style - whoop *! hehe
  2. My JJ class does some striking but not so much Kickboxing - or any style in particular - but I enjoy those mixed lessons. Thing is - although I am a relative beginner in JJ I have been doing Karate since I was 'ickle so I usually teach the finer points on striking techniques - lol
  3. Yeah - it is all just spelling! or a typr if you put B in front of JJ! (I know, I know - Brazilian Ju Jitsu)
  4. Ok - Brazilian Ju Jitsu (BJJ) was "created" by the Gracie family but was originally tought to them as traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu. The main differences (as far as my humble understanding goes) is that the is much more groundwork involved in BJJ. But I am pretty sure similar threads have been started MANY times on here so go back through the pages or do a search or something - I'm sure plenty of details have been given! Godd Luck.
  5. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with Shukokai as far as I can tell! It does have a slight similarity in that they both progressed from tradiotional but it seems Tenshinkan is more of a modern-mongrel style (as in adapts all the time)! Looks pretty good though!
  6. If GKR means Go Kan Ryu...then I'd change ASAP!
  7. Depends what branch of Shukokai you train with. Not that they vary much - a DVD has been produced by one of the guys at my club (he's a 3rd Dan) on the Kata's and applications. I haven't seen it yet but apparently it is good. e-mail me if you want to chat about it - I also have a post discussing Shukokai on here in the karate Section. Your instructor doesn't happen to be Norris Pierce or Paul Graham does it?
  8. Not related as far as I know - certainly not the traditional way. I'll see what I can find some time soon!
  9. Cool - thanks for your reply hongkong - another branch of Shukokai I feel. But it all came from Sensei Tani and Sensei Kimura. If you wanna check out more about Shukokai Karate Union then visit : http://www.sku.org.uk So what grade are you HongKong?
  10. Nobody had any experience with this then?
  11. No -one then??
  12. If we are still talking about Video Games : Tenchu : Wrath of Heaven is a let-down - not as good as I had hoped. I have Soul Calibur 2 and I think it is ok. But The Tekken series rocks. Tekken Tag and Tekken 4 keep me awake till stupid-o-clocl in the morning! My fave characters are: Soul Calibur: Maxi, Raphael, Heihachi and Yoshimitsu Tekken: Hwoarang, Bryan, Yoshimitsu, Paul and Jin
  13. I see your point but the way you have put it still seems to de-value the fact that he wants to try his own Kata. You've probably seen my post on this though so you know how I think about it.
  14. Sorry - it double posted! And I hope that adding a link is ok?
  15. check this site out for ninja laughs! http://www.realultimatepower.net This guy must really know about ninjas! HEHEHEHE
  16. In our Ju Jitsu classes we quite often do ground grappling with our eyes closed. It gives you Kinaesthetic Feedback. That is your bosy takes over the senses. To explain a bit further it involves your muscles sensing what is going on by the way your body feels and the reactions to other forces on your body. It is a great way to train both for "street reasons" (Imagine you have blood in ur eyes or something. And for the fact that your feel for others will improve. Judo in the paralypmics was played by blind guys too. They do the same thing really - just feeling the weight of the opponent. Hope that helps.
  17. Did both Jiin and Neseishi again at the weekend - Decided I still like Neseishi and am less keen on Jiin!
  18. I study Tani-Ha Shito Ryu - which is better known as Shukokai. Nidan Guiseley, England
  19. I still think my gi is best - Jacket is sky-blue-pink with yellow dots on! Pants are see-through mesh and the belt is in fact a row of fairy lights! ROCK N ROLL! (In fact My actual gi is a decidedly off-white with various unsavoury stains!!!!)
  20. Can somebody help me! I found a link to a UK company that sells TAPOUT gear - usually found at inyaface- but that is American and it charges a load for shipping etc. Does anyone know of any UK suppliers for Tapout and similar stuff that they know and trust? Thanks.
  21. U can get Nike TKD dobuk's and belts now! Find it on Google!
  22. Cool - cheers. Still wqnt an adidas Gi - but that is cos it looks cool and I want to pose in it! LOL
  23. I have loads of ways of dealing with the kids depending on who they are and how they react to my first few calm requests that they behave.... Hehe - I am a very bad man but shouting at kids seems to help with me for some reason! But that is rarely and as I am unfortunately not around much to help - Kids get scared because they don't realise exactly who I am. For all they know I am a new instructor to them - and one who they don't know well enough to goof off in front of. I just act serious but I teach in as fun a way as possible. The kids who know me know I am fun and if they mess around I go back to boring drills that make their arms ache. We commonly give push-ups as punishments but some of our kids don't care. So instead I sometimes make an example of them. We had one kid that we used to make stand in a little sqare on the floor and do 15 star-jumps everytime he pissed about. if he stepped out of the square he had to start again. I think some of these systems would work well.... sitting out is an ok idea - as long as the kid isn't still misbehaving from the sidelines. The ticket idea is good too. That also stops parents from using your club as a baby-sitters service. Some good ideas guys - thanks!
  24. I agree that they should be adapting to the style they are testing for - however the other examiners should allow a little "breathing space". And Shukokai does this block by bringing the fist accross the body to the opposite side and then up and out in an arc-type motion.
  25. I agree - don't be nasty to kids....the ydecide ur nursing home! But seriously - if you can't take advice from everyone then u shouldn't be in Martial Arts in the first place! Anyway -I'm here to point out another style: Shukokai - evolved from Shito-Ryu by Sensei's Tani and Kimura
