  1. You are probably training a bit too much, Rock. A person needs to give their minds and bodies time to recover from training. Think of it like this, you can study physics for 12 hours straight, but usually the fist couple hours are all you really retain.
  2. You had wet paperbags at your blackbelt test?
  3. You'd be surprised about lines, they're used because they are very hard to see. And, a line can reel in the bolt at about the same speed that a bow can shoot it. Magicians are really good at these tricks. The kid is still in danger because the chuck could slip, the guy could slip, the kid could lean forward a bit much in anticipation.. I don't think this is a really big deal, just a stupid idea.
  4. I have never been in a situation where I needed to kick my way out of a wet paper bag.
  5. LOL. That's a really good and witty response, foreveryoung!!
  6. Yes, Dan Inosanto is called by several different titles because he is an instructor of over 50 martial arts. So, you'll see some people call him Sifu, others Guro, Guru, Master...etc. What a guy, his entire life is dedicated to training martial arts and passing on the knowledge.
  7. If the instructor is insulted by such a silly thing, I'd look for a new instructor.
  8. Unless the trick is staged, then there is always a risk. No person is so skilled that they are infallible. I can't think of anything. Do you have any such capabilities?
  9. Because the nunchuk is swung in that direction. Unless there is some magic trick being done, then the kid is in some danger. Maybe the guy staged the event and placed himself where he couldn't physically touch the kid with the chuk. If that's the case, then this is a magic trick.
  10. A line is run from the target to the arrow and attached with the use of sleight of hand. A machine reels the arrow to it's target.
  11. It's not only inconvenient, but impractical. The child will not grow up to be a productive citizen if they are simply locked in the house for their entire life. What value is done here, entertainment? I don't agree that entertainment like this is really a good reason to risk smacking a child in the face with a deadly weapon. Yes. Now I have to look up evidence to support YOUR claims? I doubt one smack would kill the kid, but it could do some serious bone structure damage in the facial area.
  12. I'm really more talking about business wise, like legal stuff and starting costs.
  13. We just don't have belts at my school. Thus, we don't have belt-rank related problems.
  14. Besides knowledge of the martial arts and ability to teach, I mean.
  15. You might be in a McDojo if: It's founder is Ashida Kim.
  16. You might be in a McDojo if: The instructors promise to teach you how to knock people out without physical force... if you stay around long enough to be trusted.
  17. If you want good looking abs, you'll have to pay attention to your diet. Trying to lose fat in only one spot is physiologically impossible without the aid of surgery. So, do your crunches and such for the health benefits and watch your diet to help you look good.
  18. Let's change the mood of this topic. Here goes. You might be in a McDojo if: You have to pay money to test. The lead instructor is a fat blackbelt that just sits on the sideline with thumbs in his belt nodding in approval or disapproval. You're told that you too can become an instructor and start your own school, if you pay an extra fee. You're told that breaking boards has anything to do with fighting.
  19. However, the objective of fighting against a knife is to deflect, disarm or control the weapon, not punch the guy while he's attacking, yet still holds, or has total control over the weapon. Oh, I don't know if that's always the case. I don't think there really is a hard strict rule, except to survive. The only Inosanto I know of is Bruce Lee's student. Same guy.
  20. The filipinno martial arts do the same, empty hands use the same angles, however, a slap or knucke to the bicept isn't nearly as nasty as a knife cut or stab to the same place. He was one of Guro Inosanto's Kali instructors. Maybe you'll have the chance to see it and him someday.
  21. As far as muscle and power development, anything more than 30 minutes is a waste of time. Your goal is to stimulate muscle, and after 30 minutes of a hard workout, you are only damaging muscle. As far as martial arts training, it depends upon the individual. Try not to burn yourself out and take breaks during your training.
  22. I did some research and found that a cleanly healed bone is stronger at the place where it did broke. Concerning the calcium build-up, I found out the same info you did. I certainly don't want athritis at an early age. I'll stick with punching rag and water filled bags.
  23. I guess you don't know the trick. Let's just say that their is no way for the magician to miss shooting the apple. This nunchaku demo doesn't seem to be a magician's trick, but it could be. I doubt it though. If it's not simple trickery, then I would say that the kids face had a good chance of getting smacked.
  24. Do you have statistics of car-accident deaths vs nunchuk demonstration deaths, Lopez? Does a nunchuk demonstration accomplish anything of value? I mean, forcing one's kid to ride in a vehicle transports that child from one location to another to get necessary deeds accomplished.
  25. I think we understand what your saying, we just don't agree. If you think you're gonna be bored, don't go to the school. You could suck up your pride and go to the beginner classes. If you really do have them down, then maybe the instructor will see it and allow you to move up the ladder.
