  1. 47MartialMan, are you still a magician? I recently started a new job and the other guy that my company hired is a magician. It's amazing how simple the tricks are, and easy to spot if you know what to look for. I pretty much know I won't be able to convince the believers that Ki/Chi isn't real. However, I'm wondering if any of them have the guts to try and take the Randi challenge. I guess some people like to talk about their beliefs but don't have the guts to have their beliefs challenged.
  2. Tazers function with very small electric charges. Pressur-point knock-outs work (wheather they work in fights is a different an irrellevent side-topic). Massage and accupresure work (I use the latter and others pretty regularly, it's not psycosematic). Why is it not possible (even likely) that little needles with incense would have a real effect? Tazers have a high voltage and low current, it's hardly a "small electric charge", more of a non-lethal hard punch of voltage. Pressurepoint KO's work..... I doubt it, is there any science on this? Massage and acupressure work on a placebo level. Your testimonial is not scientific evidence. Needles and incense....it's possible that it could work, but there is no evidence to support the notion that they do.
  3. So because people didn't think machine powered flight was impossible at one time, then that means Ki is real?! That is some horrible logic. It's called an appeal to ignorance. You have no evidence to support the notion that Ki is a real thing, so you appeal to the unknown saying that we might discover it is real someday, therefore it IS real. Sorry, but that just isn't sane. If you think Chi is real, why don't you just claim the one-million dollars that is owed to you when you prove it? https://www.randi.org Or are you all talk?
  4. "If Chi/ki is such a joke, why are Western medical professionals referring their patients to acupuncturists and people that practice holistic healthcare? " It a procedure that has very little overhead and helps to cure people of psychosematic symptoms. "Bioelectricity has been measured in a laboratory." Two different things. If you can show me how a person can harness bioelectricity, then maybe you can convince me that they are the same things. "He recommended that I try acupuncture from an acquaintence of his. After 2 sessions I haven't had another twinge of pain from my neck" Ever think that time healed your neck from pain and the acupuncture simply worked a placebo effect to temporarily distract you from that pain? "Don't knock it completely if you know absolutely nothing about it. Do some research." https://www.quackwatch.org
  5. I know some people have thought I had some "chi" powers, until I showed them the purely physical mechanics behind the feats.
  6. Ok, so it only applies to Goju Ryu. However, I have to ask.. since martial arts are not illegal here, why practice the dance/kata instead? Why hold secrets?
  7. I would hope he's talking about Goju Ryu, since there are plenty of martial arts that have no Kata. He can't be correct if he means all martial arts.
  8. "dont they realize that the TRUE secrets of the system are contained WITHIN the kata ?" I find that hard to believe, since there are plenty of martial arts that don't have KATA.
  9. Some minds are so open that their brains get sunburned.
  10. I'm not being sarcastic, I'm sincere in my statements.
  11. Someone stated ki as being a "natural energy" that all people have inside of them. This particular energy is non-evident. What else is there to understand?
  12. wear a liatard, that'll impress em.
  13. You can't handle it when someone challenged your beliefs, right? I know where you can claim one-million dollars if you can simply provide evidence of this "Ki" energy.
  14. Sleight of hand (pulling a bunny out of a hat) is also a "concept" that you can apply to your techniques to improve them. What's your point? It seems to me that the unbendable arm is simply a trick to show people that you shouldn't flex more muscle than you need to. What is fluid tension, btw?
  15. Ki is real, it's a natural energy that permeates through all living beings? I doubt it. Perhaps you confuse Ki for Calories.
  16. It's a trick, no amount of metaphor can escape that fact. I have an open mind, open to evidence. I don't doubt the "semi-unbendable" arm trick works, but it is still just a trick.
  17. Wait, because I don't believe in the supernatural, I'm a Cobra Kai type of martial artist? LOL. You don't like my signature, but then again, you probably missed the point of it. It's not about attacking people, but the importance of action over words.
  18. I'm not kind of a skeptic, I AM a skeptic.
  19. I stand square to bait my centerline. It's an invitation to meet my knees and elbows, really.
  20. BTW. Guro Inosanto is almost 70 and still trains in Muay Thai. The body mechanics involved work whether you're old or young.
  21. PAL. Muay Thai IS a martial art. I also train in several other systems of martial arts and I have yet to do "KATA". So your claim that it is the backbone to any martial art is simply wrong. Body mechanics is the backbone to martial arts.
  22. I wouldn't be satisfied with seeing it, I'd have to see it under controlled conditions where trickery was guarded against.
  23. I'm not sure that Krav Maga IS combat proven. I mean, how often do Israeli soldiers fight without guns? From what I've seen of Krav Maga, I don't agree that it's necessarily any good. Some of their gun and knife disarms would simply put you in further trouble.
  24. There are also heavy bags that can be filled with water. Although they are a bit softer, they are much easier to fill.
  25. " Some things didn't work for me in the Muay Thai session, such as the way we're meant to step into some of the kicks, sometimes switching stances while lunging forward (almost like a kick-off if you know what I mean), the guard - keeping the lead hand out and the other hand on the cheek which we're told NOT to do in kumiai ryu. " To really confuse you, I'll tell you that there are several systems of Muay Thai. What you are learning seems to be much different than anything I would do. Then again, I guess it's very hard to show someone what you're doing with text. I've crosstrained through all of my martial arts training and it seems to me that my understanding and abilities in each of the arts have benefitted from it. If you don't like the Muay Thai, at least try to take something away from your trial........ like how to throw are very hard round kick.
