Ki & Aikido

You aren't "speculating" much to come up with a theory. You simply think you have some kind of superpower but you don't care to prove it scientifically. That's fine. I'm just going to say I don't believe you because it is not scientifically proven. -

You are either a liar or delusional. -

It is rather a silly debate. Jerry makes a claim, now he asserts that I have to prove his claim wrong. The burden of evidence is actually Jerry's, he makes the absurd claim, so he should be providing the evidence. He won't, though, but neither do most believers. -

It's not so much that he's violating laws of physics, but that we would have to define new ones to explain his superpower. In order to do this, however, we need to establish that he really does have his claimed superpower. -

Tell me, are you qualified to test these things? The ones that rules our objective universe. I highly doubt that you are qualified to judge such things. But did you use controlled conditions? I doubt it. Why the crap would I want to waste my time doing something that I believe doesn't work?! You sure do make excuses for avoiding the challenge. The JREF is a small drive away from you, they have and do test claims JUST LIKE YOURS. Yet you insist on making excuses for why you won't do it. Why don't you just be honest and say you don't want your beliefs tested by an objective, third party because you are afraid of the results? -
I think the confusion, JEM, comes from your circular logic. You are trying to define ki as.. ki. It's not really helping. You also are claim that ki is real because you practice with ki. Essentially, a restatement of your belief about ki. It's very hard for a skeptic to get past that kind of circular reasoning. Your definition of Ki is confusing because it contains Ki as the definition.

Yep, I agree with the fat a..donkey. After a bit, you'll learn to throw the correct punch for the correct environment. Hand at the hip for your karate forms and hand on the face for when you're boxing or in a fight. You'll also learn to protect your head more than you would from kyokushin, since kyokushin rules don't allow punches to the head (if I remember correctly).

I dunno. Are there any Ashida Kim students here?

Me thinks SteveB is correct.

I don't know if BJJ would be considered "soft" Also, by "Iron Man Training", does that mean you're running marathons, riding bikes and swimming long distance?

I've trained for about 2 yrs in Rossi Kun Tao, it's an Indonesian system that is much like Silat. It's not as artistic as other indonesian silats, but it is very brutal and to the point. Anyone else train in this system?

This is a testable claim, one that has been tested before. So, why not apply?

You are simply wrong. You claim to be able to feel if someone is injured or not with touch. Now, how do you do that? What do you call what you are sensing? Yes, you simply trust your own experiences over the reality of physics. That's fine, but really, it's just a belief. Why not do it under controlled conditions? -
I think it's better to teach weapons first, myself. But I guess different philosophies for different teachers.

Exactly how is that calling my source a liar? The test Randi proposed to Sylvia is a preliminary test. Preliminary tests are still tests. You believe in ki, nuff said. Ok, then prove it. Win the challenge. If you doubt Randi, then go to scientists and see if you can use that route. Until then, all you have are claims. Fine. I doubt you can do it though. You can doubt all you want, but until you actually take measures to test it, you'll never know. Oh, I think Mr Randi can come up with a few suggestions. I agree that there is a point long before 100 where it becomes silly. After about two I wouldn't bother. Now you're starting to think like a skeptic. -

I doubt it, but feel free to apply for the JREF challenge. I'm sure you and Randi can come up way to factor out sound, site and touch. What?! No, I'm going off of current knowledge of science as well as my own observations. I'm not going off of other people's words. I don't have to be tricked to know what a trick is. I'm gullible because I don't believe your claims? Do you even think before you post? It's obvious that you have no real confidence in your belief of Ki, so you will do whatever you can to avoid giving actual evidence to support your belief. You want to believe, that's fine with me, whatever keeps you happy. If you want to continue attacking me, Randi and the JREF, then you are way off base, I'm simply a skeptic that doubts your absurd claims. -

I'm open to evidence. Can you do this? Do you know anyone that can? It's worth one million dollars. I saw Copperfield walk through the Great Wall of China. Does that mean he really can turn intangible? It's part of your practice, so I will guess that you mean you can actually do this feat. Are you sure you're not using touch, hearing and eyesite? This can be tested, you know. Yes, I can do the trick. Can your old guy do the feat I described with the rope? This would take bodymechanics and force dispersion out of the equation. It's a silly trick with one or 100 people or more. Simply because the trick is to deal with only the first guy, all the people behind him fall because of domino effect coupled with a belief. -
So your school teaches all aspects of combat from the beginning?

Do you have any evidence that this sort of thing happens with the challenge? It's my understanding from both Randi and Challengers that this is not what happens. In fact, when Randi and Sylvia Browne were on Larry King Live they both came up with criteria for a test and no such thing happened. You make accusations and assumptions with no substantiation. I'm hardly gullible, you are the one that believes there is an immeasurable energy that resides in all living things, not me. So,that's a no. Ok. No one made that claim. False, you are simply making excuses and keeping your claims somewhat vague and "mysterious". You claim ki is real, but you have no evidence. Just your own experiences and beliefs, right? Neither do I. -
Randi has tested people with your exact claim before. You claim to be able to sense if someone is injured or hurt by touch alone, right? This qualifies as paranormal. So, no worry, you're claim is sound and can be tested. Just fill out the application. Feel free to write Randi at randi@randi.org if you doubt me.

Most karate schools I know if don't teach any weapons related tactics and techniques until the student has trained for several years.

http://www.dryqwong.com/kungfu/videos.shtml Are these the kind of things that a true "Ki" "Chi" practitioner can do?

How would you measure "influence of movement"? You're right, you may have to sue him.. but that situation hasn't come up yet. Everyone that has tried the test was either caught cheating, or their powers simply disappeared when cheating was guarded against. You imply outright dishonesty. It could happen, but Randi also sets up the protocols so that it's not possible for Randi to cheat the other way. He has even left the test area at the request of the challengers as well. I'm sure he'd be willing to change his career as a debunker if someone with actual powers showed him that they were real powers. Psychics make a heck of alot more money than Randi, and tend to be more famous. Really, you make up very lame excuses for not taking the Randi challenge. Why don't you just come out and say that you have some doubts about your claims instead of this meager attempt to discredit the JREF and James Randi?
