How long for the basics of Jui-Jitsu
Angus replied to boxer's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
To understand fully the fundamentals.basics of Jiu Jitsu (or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - the one i studied) u need to study it for at least 2 years. Most BJJ guys go up to purple belt or something after 2/3 years. U really can't compare striking to grappling, cos they're so different. Angus -
Nah, hold on a sec. His friends didn't ask him to help. He helped of his own accord. Friends who get into fights and then expect ui to help them are the ones u should ditch, but if they're taking it like men without using u as a shield then they are still your friends. I've never had a friend that would start fights and then expect me to finish them for me though, so i can't really understand that kinda thing. Angus

You know, DarkMonkey, you're right... I AM A GOD!!! The thing is about this challenge that i don't have a new dojo of my own, and there really aren't any neutral places to go to. This dude just asked me to come back to the dojo (which i did actually train at at one stage) and prove my theories. Anyway, i'm going down there in a couple of hours to see what the go is. Hopefully i should come back with a conclusion to this chapter. Haha, i hope i don't get smacked up, cos i have to go to work afterwards. Angus

Dude, we don't have a clue what that means. Angus

Heh, obviously an angry and uneducated person. Look, i guess what u were trying to say in that ramble is that u don't like ground fighting. The 1900's saw a massive change in the world - cultures blended and things have changed. Arts such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu came on the scene and rocked the martial arts world. Quite simply put, if u don't know what you're doing on the ground then u have less chance to save your life. Traditional arts have their place, but i think things such as katas/forms/poomses are out of date and have no place in serious self defence. THINK!! What if, on the odd chance, some guy tackles u from behind or something, just bare with me. What if u end up on the ground and this guy's trying to break your neck? A hell of a lot of good your standing-up fighting will do then huh!?!? Basically, it all comes back to crosstraining. Grappling and Striking, u need to cover ur arse both ways. Take the UFC people like Coleman - he's awesome and hge just looks like he's brawling. Fighting isn't meant to look pretty, but u can look bad and be effective at the same time dude. Take Rickson Gracie's 400 undefeated fights (that's Vale Tudo, NHB, and REAL STREET FIGHTS AND LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS). Rickson is arguably the best fighter in the world and the only thing he does is Gracie Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). I guess it's just different strokes for different folks dude, but don't close your mind to new things. Grappling is effective and very real and deadly. It's true that few fights are finished on the ground, but it can happen, and does happen that two people wrestle each other to the ground and go hell for leather. It's the truth, and it hurts some people. Not my fault that i like to see the truth Angus

Hah, you've got 'good' fighters and then u have 'cRaZy' people like me... we'll see anyway. I really have no reason to get angry though, but i'm sure to get fired up if i cop a couple of hits, which will probably happen since the dude IS a shodan ho. He trains harder than me, attends classes 4 times a week, and is 2 inches taller than me. Hmmm.... Angus

Jab, cross, hook, uppercut. It's a bread and butter technique but there aint no better. Angus

Yeah well, i've been doing various styles for most of my life and this was the weakest style i'd ever come across. It was disgusting that so much money was being paid by these people and they were simply not getting value for money. Anyway, i'm going down to the dojo tomorrow. I'm not gonna go and meditate for the rest of the day or anything. I might just go and do some bagwork. Bah! Cool head karateka? You're talking to Mr A.A. cOoL! Angus

Crescent Kicks
Angus replied to SuperMinh's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Crescent kick and axe kick are two different things. Axe kick slices back down on the person's head/shoulder while the crescent kick makes a circular path while is essentially meant to go thru the head. They lok the same but are very different. Angus -
Yeah well, it's gonna happen... It was a formal challenge by a guy who does karate. Keep in mind here i kinda am the bad guy cos i was dissing his system (BUT IS SUCKS!! IT REALLY DOES!!). So i was asked to come and prove my theories at the dojo. So i will. I have to watch out for groin kicks though, cos i know that's what they'll be going for. If he goes down into cat stance though i know i have him, cos although the cat stance is designed to deter sweeping it won't deter my back-leg from crashing into it. I doubt he'd b stupid enough to go into catty anyway. Angus

I don't really know why fancy stuff is so highly regarded in the martial arts. Basics are always better. I don't train my fancy kicks anymore, cos i know they are gonna b a useless waste of time and energy... time and energy which could be better spent on my rounshouse kick. Angus

Nah man, this guy is supposed to be one of their better fighters... I trained with him, so i've seen some of what he can do (mostly wimpy kata), and his strikes are not THAT good. I'm not going in randomly. This is the guy i am supposed to be *duelling*. If they wanna hide behind their numbers then let them, it says a lot for them. I think i might trust them enough to hold to their word, but i have to be careful that i don't damage this bloke too badly. Angus

muay thai vs kung fu (2001)
Angus replied to loco's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Hahaha, the dude who wrote this stuff is a bit weird.... MUAY THAI IS NO LONGER THE GREATEST RING SPORT or some crap.... So they win once, so what? MT dudes had one a thousand times before... Why is it that when something is defeated once it is automatically second best.... Bah! Angus -
Right on... The way i see it, this is a challenge and a test of my honour as much as my skill. If i lose (which is a remote possibility which would be due to eddies in the space time continueum) then at least they will respect me for turning up. I don't wanna have a drawn out fight though. I'm gonna go low, go fast, and finish it within a minute. These guys don't block with their legs or do leg kicks, so i'll show them the error of their ways. Angus
-
Yeah well.... The thing is, u see, that i once did a particular style of karate that i shot off about saying that it was useless for street combat and realistic situations. I happened to say this to one of my lady friends who, not knowing the damage it could do, told one of her other friends (a guy i trained with, who is a Sho Dan Ho (black belt)) why i had to say about this particular style... Therefore this dude then said that if i was so sure of myself that i could come back to the dojo and prove my theories. I've got teh sack to back up my claims, but i'm not superman, and i donb't know whether or not my winning would be taken lightly with all the other bb's at this place. I should probably have it held somewhere else. I've decided to take up the challenge. On one hand i'm gonna enjoy it, but on the other hand i'm wetting my pants over the whole thing. Angus

Kick him in the testicles next time he goes full force on u, and then remind him that if u were going full force in the street then that is what would happen to him. Then just politely TELL him to stop hitting so hard. Or u could just hit him hard, cos he probably won't expect it. It doesn't sound like a very nice school u go to. I only ever go full contact when we both agree to it and i know that the person can fight to a certain degree. Like my mate and i, the last sparring we had i was bleeding from the face and i damn near broke his ribs (he punched me in the face as i put a knee into his ribs. Angus

No, *beeep*, wrong! U can never say that, unless ur allowed to skip belts and go straight from white to black due to natural ability. Don't b fooled dude, a black belt is not impervious to mere mortal harm. A black belt is the level you are SUPPOSED to be at, and lets people know that u r versed in the knowledge of fighting... But u aren't invulnerable... Blue can still beat Black. White can beat black. Man, i've been in the MA's for 13 years, and i don't hold any ranks in any styles, really, but just because i don't have a rag around my waist doesn't mean i'm not a good fighter. Angus

Greetings peepholes! I was just wondering about martial arts challenges, like someone actually challenging someone else, to go to a particular place, to settle a grudge in an fight. I know this stuff used to happen in the old days but does it happen now? Say, hypothetically of course, that someone u used to train with in an ancient and outdated style caught wind of your views of their style and decided that they would like to exchange words with you. And then say, also hypthetically, that the code of their particular old and outdated art would not permit them to cause a direct confrontation on the street, therefore they challenge u to a 'duel' of sorts, so they can prove that they are superior. And say that this duel was at this person's dojo, where u are surrounded by 10 or more of this particular style's students, and would find it perhaps a little more than difficult to walk out of the place if u came out victorious against this particular person. Would u take up the challenge? Would u back away? Remember, this is a formal challenge of skill and honour, and the fact that u shot your mouth off about how bad this particular style was would make u seem even stupider if u didn't accept the challenge. Any thoughts on what could be done? Angus _________________ "Your Anger is a Gift" - Rage Against the Machine Angus Argyle - KarateForums.com Sensei Freestyle Martial Artist.
