A scenario: A massive Samoan dude comes up behind u, pushes u to the ground, gets on top of u and starts pounding ur brains out... what do u do? Oops, u don't do ground fighting, but somehow this guy got close to u and took u to the ground... Now how in the sam hill did that happen? If u don't know how to do something, then learn it... simple! Angus

I know some kids that a very discplined too, but don't wear a black rag around their waist. The meaining of black belt's been lost, it's not something that's given to kids. Angus

I second that Javi,

Kids shouldn't be training in the formal classes... They need to be doing 'kids' things so they can learn. Sure u can teach them strikes, but don't teach them too many in one class. Make them do sets of 5, make them do a little running, but make sure that they are disciplined when they are naughty or do not do something correctly... They should be taught co-ordination by having to toss tennis balls to each other and have to catch them (two hands then one hand). Various ball games like brandings with a soft beach ball or something like that cold be used... Something so it's fun for the kids. I know this is a bit off topic but i find it weird that a five year old had to do a palm strike to an instructor's stomach when he was only in his second class... Little kids shouldn't be doing contact stuff anyway. It's okay to teach them 'fresh air' when they're that young, as long as the contact is introduced later on and they are not promoted to black belt or something ridiculous like that when they are under 15. Not quite the turn around u might have thought...
Angus replied to Angus's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Heh, didn't realise anyone actually thought as much about it as the people in these replies... Heck, u guys have thought it out more than i have. I know the dangers, but i choose not to think about them. Ignorance is bliss Angus -
Well, i've been doing the thinking for a week or so and i'm very sorry but i'm still extremely enraged. My bruises are yellow and fading, my mouth is no longer swollen, but my pride is still damaged and my image has suffered. I know taezee is gonna throw a major fit, and i do care cos obviously we are alike, or he was, or something. The plan remains the same - getting even. Once i even some kind of score then maybe i'll settle down, maybe... But i'm back now, so i thought i'd let youse know. Angus

Generally it should take about 2 - 3 months to recover ur former glory... But if u go hard then it should be easier... I mean, u WERE a 1st kyu, so u'r gonna have a strong hold of the basics... Angus

Heh, my last post was edited because of profanity, and i tried my hardest not to use profanity.... i honestly didn't think *mother* followed by the correct terminology for a female dog followed by the letters *e* and *s* was profane... unless it was the several hundred exclaimation marks afterwards. Heh... Next time they're gonna have to kill me to get me to stop. Angus -

I had trouble getting out of bed this morning, and i vomitted a couple of times. I don't feel too crash hot and my mouth hurts SOOO MUCH!!! I won't be going to training for a while, but i'll be damned if i'm gonna let them get away with it!!! Give me a couple of weeks to heal and i'll kick their arses when i don't have any grog in my system.... AAAAAANNNNNGGGRRRRYYYYYY!!!!!! [Edited by Admin: No profanity. Thanks] _________________ Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear. Angus Argyle - KarateForums.com Sensei [ This Message was edited by: Patrick on 2002-02-05 21:08 ] -
Well, here i am nursing bruised ribs and a gap in my mouth where one of my side bottom teeth used to be. In short, i got the snot beat outta me by two blokes. Just a simple street brawl over some silly thing like swearing at one of my mates, so of course i went and told them off and they waited until i was alone. Got a couple of good hits in, but it's just so hard fighting 4 arms with only 2. I copped a nice whack to the side of the head and it broke one of my teeth on the bottom, and i ended up pulling the broken pieces out afterwards. I can't talk properly cos of the pain and i don't look really pretty so i'm just sitting here in front of the computer typing to you peoples. They were large fellas too, one was about my size and the other was a bit bigger. I tell u what tho, they'll know not to take me one on one. I got the bruised ribs after the prick decked me and his mate treated me like a football and landed some kicks. My good old buddies came to the rescue after that (which i didn't ask for btw, i never do) and the guys buggered off. I had just enough 'cohol in me to make me sloppy and mellow (so i didn't quite get into the groove, but i wasn't drunk). Anyways, i gotta go take an aspirin/panadol/panadein/tequila/bourbon mix. I just thought u might like to know that i'm not invincible afterall, but hey, who is? Angus

I didn't read the other posts sorry, don'tnhave time... Side Kick: Rotate so the supporting heel is facing the way u want to kick, thus the supposrting toes are facing the other way. Lift your kicking knee up in a vertical manner (remember the higher the knee the higher the kick), extend the side (thrust or snap) kick with a sort of push from the hips... Later, Angus

Ahhhh, BJJ is a good choice... There's not many bad BJJ schools cos there are simply not many BJJ schools fullstop! Plus it's really hard to get up the ranks of BJJ. Purple belt's hard enough to get to. Angus

Well, after my last year of school i had two choices - Army or University... I chose army at first but then i was 'talked' into going to uni, which may have impeded my opportunities in the field of security later on. I want to be a bouncer and a bodyguard. Anyway, i'm in my second year of uni this year and i turn 19 in less than 2 months, so i'll be right. Angus

Name your toughest ground fighter!!
Angus replied to Slider's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Rickson Gracie definately... There's no doubt about it. He's 10 times as good as his brother Carlos. Carlos even said that!! We've got a bloke in Australia who does Machado BJJ called John B.Will. He was one of the original 'dirty dozen' - the first 12 non-brazilian BJJ black belts in the world. I've been to a couple of his seminars and he's pretty good too! Angus -
Hapkido: Traditional or Crosstraining
Angus replied to Hapkidodude's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
HapKiDo is a fairly progressive art... It's like some MMA's, it's trying to integrate everything useful and attempt to reject that which is seen as useless... Although u DO still have the strict traditionalists out there. Angus -
It's a crap dojo duder. Go somewhere else. Angus

Look, if u try and deliver a side kick of any kind when a guy is close to you, and if he has any form of fighting experience, he will annihilate you with his hands. There's no point doing a sidekick to the shin cos it will put u off balance and in a bad position to be out boxed. Angus

On Footwork...

Mmmm. -
I've given up on doing that... I'd rather look good than stuff around in fighting clothes... I don't really look for fights anymore, it's boring nowadays. I usually have my mobile phone in my left pocket of my jeans (which is all i ever wear) and my wallet in my right. I suppose my punching power isn't impeded - so i guess i'm alright, cos all i ever do is punch these days. Angus

Heh, yeah i train hard i guess... I don't like to muck around either.. NO REST FOR THE WICKED!! Angus -
Yeah gumby, or maybe you could read my post again and see that i wrote NEAR useless... I've landed a spinning hook on a bloke before and knocked him out cold - but i was very lucky that he wasn't a very good fighter. Angus
