  1. I have heard, that not anyone can practice a specific animal style due to physique and body developments. However, I cannot pick one, but six, for each I have a appreciation for. Tiger, Snake, Crane, Dragon, Mantis, and Monkey
  2. Always ask the instructor if you going to put it on your Gi that you wear in his class. I am about to post a artcile of the martial art uniform, but I am waiting to see if a preious artcile, of a different nature will surface. So, I am pasting a paragraph from the "uniform" article: The martial art uniform should never be bedizening to the point of meretriciousness. Occidentals have produced multiple colors, odd patterns such as stars, stripes, and swirls for flair. The martial art uniform, in the commercial aspect, had become sartorial in such the case of showmanship. One or two emblems, name, or status may be suitable, but too many emblems, patchwork, patterns, and print work are not considered to be in discernment. In most circumstances, one mon, (emblem or insignia) is plenty. Too many emblems/patchwork gives the appearance of a uniform that emulates a walking quilt. In relation to multiple colors and etc., these may seem noticeable, but just as noticeable as a marching band member without their musical instrument.
  3. Paranoid only because when I had first started, my older brother would jump out at me. As I became better.... well he stopped jumping out.
  4. Sai, Please expalin further
  5. Yeah, better not get wet, then they're in trouble
  6. I like the "ticket" idea also. But what happens if you keep giving a "ticket" not to come to class without a parent signature?
  7. Isn't the term Lohan, a Chinese version for Arahant? I have read/seen Arhat and Arahan. Arahat, warriors guarding temples?-I still see no reference of it being that way in spelling or existence.
  8. I have to agree. Okinawa was limited with resources. I have read that the sai was an imported farming "pitchfork", that the shaft was removed.
  9. When I wrote this: "Sure, a superior sword may cut through another one, but that is more do specifically how you would block against a sword strike with another sword and how thin a katana is." I was referring to a sword against a sword ("sword" being the antecedent to "one"). I assume that is where the confusion is from, as my post did not really indicate that I thought a sword would cut through an iron sai (and hence your assumption that the sword is made of stronger material). If I was wrong, then that is just weird... Ok, now I understand. The sword cannot cut through the sai. As I mentioned and as Shorinryu Sensei more appropriately clarified, you wouldn't be bracing your sai against the full swing of a sword while blocking anyway. Perhaps you are just asking for the sake of prolonging discussion, so forgive me if I am repeating things you know anyway. No, no prolonging, just trying to interpret. So, the angle or the swing of both will determine the durability as well as the opponents?
  10. No, I want to continue my training in that system. I had trained with a student of his. I have not trained with that student for some time. Besides, going to a more experience source.
  11. Watching other kids is one thing. But to drop off many kids without a parent nearby is another. Kids have a tendancy to behave differently when their parents are not around. And, with a parent present, the parent and child "share" the experience. It is no different when I or my wife had went to my daughter's dance classes. And we are talking about "Unruly Students", those that NEED a parent to stay and observe.
  12. My classes were not for "baby-sitting". No parent was allowed to "drop off" their kid.
  13. So the sword would be of stronger material?
  14. And, in all, there isn't "the answer". As said, IT depends on style, stance, and application. It maybe "his answer", but not "THE Answer". The thread should have been on the many ways the knee(s) are bent for many reasons per style, stance, and application. The question is "Why do you bend the supporting Knee? Not, why does he, the poster, bend the supporting knee. With that, when the word "you" is there, meaning directed to the reader, then he has his "own answer". Therefore it is HIS answer, the reader's and not someone that had posted the question's answer as "the answer".
  15. Hmmn, I wonder if Iron Arahat, is aware of what is a Arahat? Or is it Arahant?
  16. I was a usher once, it was ludicrous for me to sing.
  17. scottnshelly No problem, I have problems interpreting, mis-interpreting, and conveyence.
  18. Death is hardly a consideration when you are in bliss.
  19. Perhaps increasing coorindation and timing.
  20. Yes, one of the tourneys I co-pormoted , we had did the same.
  21. I am still trying to interpret what does he mean by "supporting knee"? One knee or two? In a front stance, cat stance, or horse stance, etc.? This why there is no "set answer, the description of what the legs and body are doing or about to do is vague, such as the answer will not be "the answer".
  22. I had a belt embroidered on a gi top.
  23. Yin/Yang, is also about harmony of opposites
