Martial Arts masters.
Kickbutt replied to Karateka_latino's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I definately have to say Sensei Sandie Benevides and Sensei Ingrid Dordar...Sandie is my instructor and constantly pushes me to my limits ("NO FEAR!!") and who is relentless in her own training, which inspires the rest of us. What's most amazing about her is that she knows EVERY students strong-points and weaknesses and because of that, we are all constantly improving... Sensei Ingrid Dordar is a truly inspiring woman - she started kickboxing when there were no women in the sport and sparred against men instead...she co-owns Champions (my school) with her husband Master Farid Dordar. She is always available to her students (sometimes to her own detriment) and is one of the most honorable people I have ever met - she is a very humble and giving person, who believes in giving to her community. I really liked The Score - Brando was amazing! And of course DeNiro is always at his best. Loved the ending...Quote: "You sure about that?" Hahahahahaha!!! Burned!!! Lori

Uh...yeah, it's not a good situation - the Liberals are finally thinking about stepping-in to help - gee, how nice of them don't ya think? A little late for some businesses that have already gone under, not to mention senior citizens who have literally been trapped at home for this entire strike. For me it's not so bad cause I can drive to work or wherever...What I don't get though, is how transit officials and our mayor can be so damned surprised that riots and demonstrations are starting to flare up...So...yeah, I'm quite pi$$ed at the whole situation - it's gone on long enough - and there's STILL no talks planned!!!!!!!!!! Do the words BINDING ARBITRATION mean anything to you???? Hehe...well, enough ranting for now - I'll save it for the commute home... Lori

Yeah, that story was too funny!! I told her I'm never drinking or eating anything from her!! And yes - absolutely NO sloppy workouts under her!! She's tooooo cool!! -
All of the blackbelts in our school wear stripes - they're actually sewed on once you get your blackbelt. I don't believe it's an ego thing - none of them have egos, they're actually all very humble - but just proud of the fact that they have worked their a$$es off to get to that point. A very high percentage of people quit after earning their blackbelt. What's wrong with having stripes??? Doesn't necessarily mean you have an ego....and it's something you should be proud to show, nothing wrong with that!

Hey, great website! I'm especially impressed by Sensei Lee Sansum - he's quite inspiring and his philosophy is quite similar to my Master and Sensei's as well. If you want to check out my school's website, you'll find it on kickboxing.com's main page at the bottom - Champions Martial Arts Academy. Lori -
Good for you Niel!!

Muay Thai/Kickboxing
Kickbutt replied to Kickbutt's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Yeah, I kinda thought those were the main differences, thanks Ken - as far as the square stance though, I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean - we're always told to make sure that our hips are squared, facing forward. Also, when you're sparring, do you wear protective gear? I can't imagine getting an elbow or a knee without protection... Lori -
Very interesting read. While it is refreshing to see that some teachers are more concerned with teaching so as to give their students the most out of the art ie. self-confidence, zest for life etc. - and not focusing so much on being able to defend yourself, I wonder if that is so smart...Anyone who knows that you train in a Martial Art will expect that you should know how to defend yourself....especially an attacker. Some people would challenge you simply because of that fact, so don't you think you should know how to defend yourself, just in case??? Just my thoughts...

Hmm...I'll have to remember that, but I like to fake out my opponent, usually with a front-kick, then nail them in the head with a roundhouse... Lori
