I feel exactly the same about learning - it should be fun, otherwise why the hell do it? I had to learn how to relax when I first started - I was so PO'd at myself every time I couldn't get something right the first time - I have since learned to relax and take it as it comes. If you have fun doing something, chances are that will outweigh the work required and you will stick with it and succeed. Life's too damn short to take so seriously!!!

Oh......my mistake Ken, sorry.... I also wanted to say that it is actually more discomfort than pain, as Karateka differentiated. It's located not on the back of my calf where I would normally feel it if my muscles were just sore, but towards the front close to the bone - it's the wierdest thing!! Anyways, if anyone else has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it! Lori

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I think Angus has some competition in regards to who's the most perverted on the board. You guys kill me - hahahahahaha!!!

Thank-you for the Canada Day wishes Iamrushman - and I also wish you a belated Happy 4th of July! And Angus, Happy Independance Day to you too - when was it btw? Lori

Hey there and welcome! The only advice I have to give is to keep trying and never give up, as it will all come with time and perseverance. When you start to spar, do it as much as you can, so you get used to it - I used to be terrified of it but I would go to sparring sessions and am now asking people to hit me harder, as I know from experience that it's nothing to be afraid of. And when sparring don't try to be a tough guy/girl, as Ken said. Focus on your technique and watch what your opponent is doing, then wait for an opening and go in and get them! Good luck!

Hi All, I've noticed in the last 2 weeks or so that I've had paid in my calves, even though I work out regularly and stretch apporpriately...I find it sometimes difficult to continue my workout, as it can really hurt sometimes. Do I need better shoes? Is it from high impact exercise? How can I correct this? Please help! Ouss. Lori

I understand what you are saying, Karateka - however I will not tolerate any kind of discrimination... I simply could not leave that comment unanswered. Anger has it's time and place - and this was it. I am a very peaceful and respectful person and tend to stick up for the underdog. This was a nice clean debate until the gay comment. I am however finished arguing, as I said what I meant and am now done with it. P.S. You just never give up do you Angus! Hahahahaha!! Lori -

"And on homosexuality, I personally believe it is sick and wrong as well. " Well Apollo - yes you are going to have to pay for that statement...how DARE you post something as cruel as your above statement. You could have said it in a more respectable way, without having your obvious disgust evident - you don't sound like a very peaceful or respectful person to me - your comment has no place on this board - and by the way, you, with your statement have just proven to me that you show no tolerance nor compassion towards gays - nor anyone else different from you. Do you realize you are only adding fuel to an already out of control fire? Gays must live with persecution every day of their lives... And thanks to people like you, it seems as though it will never change. And one more thing - you have done the same thing that you are criticizing Ken for - making statements with no prior knowledge or idea of what you're talking about - you are attacking an entire community of people who have done nothing to deserve this... I thought religion was supposed to teach tolerance! I'm thoroughly disgusted by your blatant disrespect. -

Great debate you guys, I'm really glad we are able to express our own views and nobody gets offended - not many places we can do that, so my hat's off to you all. Ken - you basically summed up everything I believe...I agree with you 110% - very well put. Ouss. Lori -

Yes Ken, I read it and respectfully say that it did not sway my opinion...I still need to see it to believe it. It did however kinda get under my skin though Tim when I read countless times statements telling me that if I did not accept Jesus into my heart, that I would not be accepted into Heaven...seems a little selective for a God that made us in his/her own image - I think statements like that only divide people and other religions... -
Thanks very much iamrushman... Hey karateka, Blake is fighting on the 6th of July at the Agridome if you'd like to see it live - Champions is selling tickets. Just a thought...

That's OK, I completely understand (All in good fun!!) Lori

Which place in the world, would you most like to visit?
Kickbutt replied to Blood Eagle's topic in General Chat
Wow, that's pretty cool if you are a descendant - that was actually one of my favorite movies - hard to watch at times (you can guess which parts) but an excellent movie nonetheless. Liam Neeson ain't too shabby either. Lori -

I read as much as I had time for, however would like to pose this question among others... Do you believe we came to exist because God created Adam and Eve? Are you telling me that I should not question religion and just to accept it on blind faith? Why are there only written miracles and prophecies performed by God, Jesus and Moses among others, and none (proven) since - I'm talking about such acts as parting the Red Sea and the like, not simply the miracle of life. Have you witnessed a miracle or talked directly with God or Jesus? This is not sarcastic or snide - I am genuinely asking these questions, as I'd sincerely like to know. Ouss. Yeah, I guess you're right - and it's true what you said about Martial Arts not being for everyone. She does see me doing all kinds of stuff, as I take her with me on Saturdays when I spar and she sometimes spars with me (she's sooooo cute with all her gear on!). I'm right upstairs as an assistant instructor when she's in her class, so she can see me there too. I keep reminding her that if she decides to stop, that it means she won't be coming with me anymore to spar and that she can't participate - she doesn't like that very much - and not having Sensei Blake as her instructor anymore, well that's just unthinkable!! As far as her being a lazy kid, no she's quite the opposite - on the go all the time. Come to think of it Angus, your comment about watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and having that inspire you does make sense - I rented Girlfight and she was REALLY getting into it after seeing a bit of the movie with me - doing kicks and punches and stuff, so I think I'll rent some cool martial arts type videos for her! Seems to motivate her alot! Thanks Mate !! Lori P.S. So uh...did ya find yer picture yet Angus??? I'm trying to find one too - maybe I'll just take one with our webcam in my uniform or something, I'll let you know.

You made me laugh!! Sorry but I couldn't help it!! You'll love your 30's (I'm 31). You GO Studly!! Lori

As well as church and politics, church and school. In Norway, they have a group called "The Christian Peoples Party". I dunno, North America is such a melting-pot of different religions that I just don't believe it should be associated with the above mentioned at all, as it segregates some - I remember in elementary school when we still were saying the Lord's Prayer (they don't anymore), that this poor girl of the Jewish Faith was forced to step out into the hallway...how embarrasing/uncomfortable must that have been for her? I am somewhat spiritual, however I'm of the way of thinking that if I can't see it, then it's not real to me. In my opinion any God, Allah, Buddah etc. would not expect me to go on blind faith - to me that's riduculous - and what about Evolution? That can't be discounted - it just makes more sense to me, that's all. Anyways, this is my humble opinion...Ouss. Lori
