What do you think about board breaking?
Luckykboxer replied to Shorinryu Sensei's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I put other because your poll was so biased towards your obvious opinion that it is ridiculous. If you want to put a poll up it has always been my opinion that it should be impartial in its wording so that people can put their true feelings without outside interference. Personally I see no problem with Board breaking. In my style we do it only at the brown belt level, and at black belt we move on to bricks. lower belts dont break anything. not that its a bad idea and not that i have anything against other styles who chose to do that. There are definitely things that can be learned and gained from it -
What would you change about your style?
Luckykboxer replied to CloudDragon's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
hehe you are asking the wrong question Cloud... You maybe should have asked... Can you change things in your system? In American Kenpo, we add to the system If there are principles we run across that are not already included. I see no reason why someone would want to remove any instruction or principles of a system simply because they dont understand or like them. breaking boards may be a way you instructor motivates people, or raises their awarness of how to focus their strikes. Regardless I think that systems should be flexible enough to add to them without fear of changing them based on traditional reasoning. I am however extremely against removing principles if they are sound principles and are used for a reason. -
I finally have done it!

ermm excuse me if im extremely skeptical. I cant imagine any circumstances that a 300 pound man cannot lift a 95 pound man off the floor without any outside reasons stopping him. I mean i can shoulder shrug almost 200 pounds, and I weigh about 245 right ow, I just cant imagine what you are saying can possibly be true -

it was my first real training. to make a long ugly story short, I had a choice to make and I chose to leave a lifestyle, but i couldnt leave behind my passion. When i started at my school it was really old school... blood on the carpet every night. Fighting for me is exhilerating, some people have different passions, mine is to pit myself against another human being and come out on top, which probably explains why im a huge chess players, strategy game player, debater, etc.etc. just too dang competitive, cant seem to let anything rest. I just happened to be really good at fighting, so i went from making money at it a certain way, to making money at it my current way -

Muay Thai
Luckykboxer replied to youremean's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
no the only fights that end on the ground are either untrained fighters, or grapplers wanting to controlt he action on the ground. Both are ill advised. I am also 100% confident that all things considered equal a striker never has to go to the ground or get tied up in the streets. sport fighting is another matter all together since it is in a confined space and has rules. now, a grappler that is trained can take down a good striker that doesnt know how to stop shoot ins. but I am a firm believer that once someone knows how to stop that it wont do the grappler any good. I am also willing to defend my position against anyone on the planet in regarsd to this. I am not saying I am wanting to street fight and hurt people, I am saying that if someone would like to test me on it personally I would love to accept the challenge. -
/chuckles there are so many jokes here it isnt funny.... well ok kinda.. I have a few different kinds of cups.. the key to the cup is to provide you protection from strikes, either accidental or on purpose. If you are wearing a cup, and it fits comfortably, it protects your groin, it keeps out strikes, then it is good. If it doesnt then find one that will. Dont worry so much about whether you are supposed to fit into it or not, worry about what you want it to accomplish

Luckykboxer replied to coastguard's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
an interesting side note... In California anyways.. not sure about the rest of the country and elsewhere, but the pepper spray that the military and police forces use is a more concentrated spray then the one that is available to the public. /shrug odd side note i had to share -

welcome.. and to answer your question, us big guys are the exception not the rule in martial arts. I am 6'3" and atm about 245 I wear a size 6 Gi, which should be fine for you. One thing I recommend is spend a little extra money and get a heavy weight Gi. I have shreaded a few light weight Gis just doing normal activity. -

hrm I see your quote from the BKf there. I have competed against quite a few BKF members over the years, have also gotten the opportunity many times to train personally with Orned "Chicken" Gabriel. As a matter of fact he was on my Black Belt test board. -

OOPS lol i read that question wrong i guess haha. you know one excercise that is great is decline sit ups, you have to use a decline situp bench... a way to hit the obliques real well is when you get to the top to twist your torso to the left adn then the right... or visa versa and then go back down.. another good one is to sit on you rear, keep your legs together and lift them off the ground legs slightly bent... have your torso also off the ground at almost 45 degrees.... and twist your torso back and forth from left to right, do what you can,,, start at ten reps each set for 3 sets, then move up as you can... this always kicks my *. V ups are good.. I personally have always prefered exercises that combine the two.. I also do not like working out with weights when doing abs or obliques, the main reason being that when you train with weights you get bigger... Go look at a Flex muscle mag, or a muscle and fitness and look at the weightlifters side profiles, you see how their abs are ripped? YES.... now you see how their abs stick out? EWWW i hate that never want to have that. -
ahh I see. I am a Black Belt in American Kenpo Karate, I teach several classes a week, My intro in the introduction section is fairly detailed. Whenever I refer to my students I am refering to my Kenpo students. I work with Kickboxers and fighters as well, but I dont necessarily refer to them as students

ahh see thats the misunderstanding you are having then... I was like this before Kenpo. Kenpo has calmed me down, straightened me out, and I am 100% sure has kept from not only breaking laws, which the path i was on, but killing people, which was also a path i was headed. -
Kobe Filet Minion, with a nice big lobster tail, a bowl of lobster bisque, some potatos au gratin with the best cheese..some garlic sauteed asparagus spears, with a freshly made dark brown bread. with either a apples crisp type of a desert, or a cheesecake with a raspberry sauce over the top.

Luckykboxer replied to Vito's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I have tried dozens of different exercises... from having someone smack my stomach with a handmitt everytime i go down on a situp, to medicine balls routines, there are dozens of those.. from taking punches to the midsection while having to hold 5 pound weights up in my normal stances, to taking kicks to my sides while doing the same. all i know is that every single time i did extensive training on it i would have a tougher time recovering for my actual fights, so i stopped doing any of it other then what i got in a few medicine ball routines i do, and the shots i take while sparring. i am sure if you do it in moderation it would probably help, but i dont think you need to do much, and actually i believe if you do too much it will hurt you in the long run -
the better cardio shape you are in the more you will get out of your training. at some point you dont want to do too much cardio though cause your body will start eating your muscle and that will be counterproductive. the general rule of thumb I use for fights is that if i am going to fight i run two miles a day for every round i am fighting, I generally never go past 6-8 miles though ever... most of the time even when i am in midst of my hardest training i will rarely ever run over 5 miles....

the more i look at Krav Maga the mroe my impression has turned negative about it. I am going to be taking a seminar over several days so i will have some first hand knowledge, but i have a strong feeling its basically going to be what I already learned firsthand over many streetfights. Good thing is for those that dont streetfight they can probably learn fairly practical manuevers to use, bad part is, if it isnt practiced like anything else it isnt going to work. I am looking forward to this though and will see if it changes my opinion

how many reps and sets should kicks be pratice
Luckykboxer replied to mostsolid's topic in Health and Fitness
do not do reps past the point that you are so fatigued that your form is bad and you risk injury. start off with something fairly easy and work up slowly from there. you will quickly see when you are getting faituged or when the next day you are extremely sore. the problem peopel ahve is they get overly ambitious to start and injur themselves and are unable to keep up. -
ok.. ask the following questions from your doctor.. Ask how your heart rate is, and if you are able to handle intense exercise... like running, or something that gets your heart rate up. ask how your blood pressure is and ho wyou can improve it if it is bad. Ask how your cholesterol level is and how you can improve that. write down what you eat and ask your doctor what is good and what is bad out of that.. when i say what you eat, I mean not only what kind of food you eat but how much and how often. tell your doctor how much you are working out now, and how hard of a workout you are doing and ask his advice. ask if y our doctor can give you a reference to an obesity specialist. This is a person who specializes in weight problems, and can give you dietary information and will help you alot. Good luck
