  1. Ya i have to agree... you really are going to need to be humbled to change your attitude. If there is noone there that can humble you... meaning the instructor or someone you are probably going to rapidly lose respect and interest and end up leaving for elsewhere. I personally came from a fighting background before i entered the martial arts, and the only reason i was able to go to my school and be interested and respectful at the time i started was because I saw what they did and how they did it and was impressed. If you can find one thing that impresses you then you will have a chance, if not i fear you are already one foot out the door. I hope it works for you
  2. Ill take the Million dollars now. They are developing tourist space travel now, and they will probably have the ability to go to the moon sometime before the end of my lifetime. So with a million now I will be able to invest and life comfortably now and when the time is appropriate I can go to the moon as well.
  3. Leaving Las Vegas horrible movie... hated it
  4. http://www.realultimatepower.net/ the true history of Ninjas.... Enjoy... and before you say I know... i know... i just cant pass it up everytime i see the word ninja.. they are just totally sweet! /chuckles
  5. of course it isnt a sledgehammer.... its a banana... who ever heard of a monkey toting around a sledgehammer? /boggle
  6. I guess the next question that comes to my mind, since i get two different impressions from your posts is who did you ask this question of? your instructor? or a teacher? or another begining belt student? if you didnt ask an instructor maybe the person you asked had no idea the answer to the question either. I highly recommend you ask questions directly of the instructors. You are paying money for their tutelage, I think it is definitely best to take advantage of it. If you have good instructors they are nto going to make you feel bad about asking questions. As for the rest of your last post I give up. I am not going to get into an argument with you, I think i stated all i wanted to state in my last post. I stand by every comment I have made to this point. Once again I hope you find your peace in this class and I hope you get all your seeking out of it and more.
  7. /chuckles for the national mullet convention... why else would i be there? no seriously though i had a friend who just graduated from UNR this year and he played ball, when ever i was around there i couldnt help but notice the overwhelming amount of mullets. /shrug
  8. I also think this is a great post, well thought out, but i do have my differences with it, I posted in the other section in regards to it. I will cut and paste to here, or soemthing, I seem to be reading alot fo double posts in different section lately it gets confusing hehe
  9. ok i think a post i made disappeared... that or i responded to this question in another forum... Basically I said that the reason I personally associate as such is that the only people i have seen using this art have been during competitions in karate open tournaments only and not in any other form of tournament, including boxing matches, judo and jiujistu tournaments. I havent trained at a Kajukenbo School, but that is how i have gotten my impressions of it personally
  10. Ok I think I am going around in circles here, but ill address yoru comment about me calling you Rude and how seem to think i am at fault, I will also explain how i came to my conclusions using your own posts, as you seem to contradict yourself to make your point. show me where i said you were any of these things? I never once accused of it. I stated my experiences based on a situation. If your situation is similar and you see a parallel then dont say that i called you those things, when you pulled it out and made that comparison on your own. now lets look at what you said... Ok looking at these portions from your very first post. first off you made more then one comment about wanting to change your mindset, or way of thinking. second you stated you felt the students were good students. third you stated MOST... not some but most of the students have an issue with you. You stated you know why they have an issue with you. You state you are more concerned about looking and feeling beautiful then learning karate. If i read this wrong please let me know because this is how i read this so far... you seemed to get a little defensive about our comments, and not only posted about the history behind you wanting to make yourself up, but then stated that you think North Americans think its Vain and you dont understand why you cant do it.... Even after people posted reasons why.. you either overlooked the reasons, or you wrote them off as invalid. questions are how we learn, its nto just in martial arts it is with everything, IF you dont talk much at the Dojo, that could be a reason you are not learning, or getting answers to your questions there. I have to wonder if you are just being overly sensitive and because people are not approaching you that you are assuming they dont like you or have problems with you, or if you have even asked them. If you ask someone or approach them they will probably tell you they have an issue, or they will say no. /shrug I know if i wanted to know I would sure ask, especially if it was creating an issue for me. Ok once again you seem to be really defensive about this. You also insult not only the people you work out and train with, but all of us North Americans with this comment, I have to believe if it comes out here then I am pretty sure it is apparant at your dojo either in your comments, or facial expressions, or body language. If you think you are training with trash, you are going to portray that and people will take offense to it. I am offended by this comment, because you seem to think you are above North Americans and that we have an issue because we dont conform to your views of Beauty. Ask your instructor. That will end all of your problems and questions immediately. My school is different from Aefibirds and his is different from yours.... we cant answer the questions for your specific school as well as your instructor can.. Nobody on this board can.. I do however think the majority of this board seems to agree with the basics though. The only person from your Dojo that I am 100% certain has thrown out negative feelings for anyone else at your school is you. If everyone else is saying how good the people are, and you are the only one who seems to have an issue...... where should we draw the conclusion? umm a couple things.. first - No most people do not have to deal with hostility in places they choose to be at. As a matter of fact most people choose not to go to places where they are in a hostile environment. People have left many tips for staying alive as you put it, you seem to disregard them as i stated early. But based on the information you have posted yourself, and the way i interpretted it I think I have left comments that should give you an indication how to react or change or at least ask to find out what to do. Umm.. no you didnt.. You could have easily made a simple post with those as two options in a Poll. I did make assumptions based on what you posted, I have also explained why I made them. However I didnt state you were not hard working... or had unruly behavior or where playing the Dating game or any of the above.. I also think that no it is not fair to say that one of the first things you learn in karate is not to judge others, make assumptions, or criticize others. Also You made me think that these students that gave you a hard time were hard working serious karate students based on teh quotes i have already provided. I dont mind if you dont agree with what i have to say, I guarantee you wont be the first or the last. But I do tend to get frustrated when people do not look at something with the approach of what is wrong..... rather then what is wrong with everyone else? I think that if you want to change your mindset, and enjoy your training, and survive it, and remain long term, you are going to have to make some changes, or ask some questions, or maybe develop a thicker skin. I really dont have any ill will towards you, I honestly would like to give you information based on my experiences that can help you. I am a firm believer that Martial arts are an excellent activity for everyone. I am also a Firm believer in everyone having to adapt to their surroundings and fit in. I hope you are able to look at what i have posted as information to help you fit in as you wanted and not an outright attack on you. Also if i misunderstood any of your posts please correct me and ill be the first one to restate my thoughts ont he new information. Good luck and happy training
  11. because they see Kajukenbo students fighting in open karate tournaments all the time, and you dont normally see or hear of any Kajukenbo students taking place in any no holds barred contests.... At least that has been my experience.. The only place i have ever seen anyone competing that use Kajukenbo has been the open karate tournaments where they used primarily the karate side of their training. I havent even seen any boxers claiming to be Kajukenboists..../shrug honest answer from me.. I know what they supposedly train in... i have never been to one of their schools, but i have never seen one person from that style competing elsewhere in all my experience.
  12. I posted down in the lower section I believe it was health and fitness or strategies or something similar about this. maybe try there and see what you think. I personally wouldnt use a glass, but that is because i feel i have better options at my disposal.
  13. Let the Bodies Hit the Floor - Drowning Pool..i think that is who sings it. there is absolutely no song better to get pumped up before a fight. At least not for me
  14. not sure how i missed this topic. Heres Luckys surefire way to fix the shin dilemna. first, train kicking a heavy back with your shins for at least a month. not just a few kicks but at least 100-300 a day on each shin. IF the legs are sore go to a softer heavy bag, and visa versa if it is too soft. At this point you will have built up some tolerance, and you will have built up the ability to take some contact to your shins. Now go buy a nice heavy rolling pin. not the tiny weak ones, but a good solid one. roll it up and down your shin 2-3 times a day about 50-100 times each time you do it. You have to put some force intot he rolling pin it should feel a little uncomfortable... not really painful but uncomfortable. continue kicking the heavy bag. after a time of this when you build up a good tolerance, then you can switch to a metal pipe that is substantially heavier. and do the same. After a time you can fill the inside of the metal pipe with concrete and do the same. at this point you should be able to kick the really hard sand packed heavy bags without much discomfort. at this point you should be able to take a few swings against some tree trunks. IF you are going to do this i recommend a tree that has some give in it. The goal is to be able to take a hard surface, the goal is not to be able to kick the corner of a wall that is immovable, as this will break your leg. Once a kickboxer has his shins conditioned adequately, it opens up an entirely different type of game since he can jam with his shins alot better and not worry about the pain. Most people do not have the desire, or ability to get all this done. There simply is no reason, but to those that do they can hang in a fight with any amount of shin kicks and not worry about doubling over from the pain.
  15. I recently finished the Da Vinci Code, and then i read Angels and Demons both by Dan Brown. I really really liked them. I highly recommend them. I am looking at getting the Stan Brown versions next. Someone told me that an author writting under the name Stan Brown has written a rebuttal of sorts to Dan Browns books to support the religious side of the coin... Not sure what that means yet but i guess ill find out
  16. damn that sucks... you reminded them of the queen and instead of calling you queen whatever they called you William Wallace... I guess it hasnt come very far from the days of pulling pony tails
  17. hrmm i tend to disagree I think a Martial Artist is quite simply someone who studies martial arts. Now are there good and bad martial artists? sure just like there are good and bad baseball players, chess players, husbands, wives, etc.etc.etc. Saying someone else is not a martial artist only does one thing... it sets the person saying apart as an elitist. I think under the definitions listed that I am too young to be considered a martial artist in some of your eyes, at age 32 I think under the definitions listed that since i dont want to learn to be a doctor that i am not a martial artist... as far as being the best person you can be, by whos definitions are you judging whats good? Because for some people the definition of good is quite different then others. The islamic fundamentalists think the people lopping off others heads are good people.... that mean they are martial artists? Atheists that believe Christians are bad people or visa versa means what? that neither can be martial artists? Being a good person to me is i am sure quite different from some of the other peoples ideas, and i am sure that is the same visa versa. Hell i dont even thinking injuring another person is bad, if it is done under the right circumstances. /shrug
  18. mullets not trendy? you obviously havent been to Reno Nevada lately have you. I think i was almost given a ticket for not having one last time i was there
  19. not to mention if someone tried that one me i would simply stack them on themselves. you cant do a very effective scissors when you are folded in half and all your weight is on your neck once stacked its a quick move to the side mount and out of the guard.
  20. there is a huge difference from an attractive woman working out in the Dojo, and a woman trying to attract others in the dojo. From my experience, and i have seen both, I find it hard to believe that someone would get a hard time just because they were attractive and were trying to fit in. Most likely as I have seen firsthand in the past, if someone is getting a hard time its because they are doing their own thing and creating a spectacle and pulling attention from what it should be on. I am not going to be a hard case here, but I have to say that I am surprised at what i am hearing... I see your cute little quote at the bottom that says feminist rant etc.etc.. thats all good, but what we are talking about isnt a feminist issue. Its a courtesy issue in my opinion, I dont wear my cologne to class, even though its John Varvatos a fairly popular cologne. I dont wear my ring to class, as i dont want to injure anyone. I dont wear dirty clothes to class, as i dont want to offend someones senses. I take care of myself and make sure im clean and have trimmed toenails etc, so I dont offend or hurt or distract anyone. I dont try to attract the women in my classes as I am not there to date im there to learn. I dont disrupt the class, as I dont want to take away from mine or anyone elses learning. I guess there is just too many selfish people in the world that are so worried about themselves that they cant bother themselves to think of others. Its one thing if you talk to people or there is a general consensus among the group that it is ok to wear makeup. It is entirely different to walk into an established group of people and expect them to adapt to you. I have always had an issue with this. how does the saying go..... When in Rome do as the Romans do?
  21. attend as many classes as you possibly can, for as long as your body can handle it.
  22. well since everyoen here has obviously wasted their time responding to you i will leave you with this, I am done responding to you as it has become apparant to me that you dont want advice or help, but just justification that what you are doing is the best thing. Enjoy I wish you luck in your endeavors
