  1. classical music thugs are the worst, they leave you tied up while they shine your shoes. ruins your whole day
  2. the hulk would win. he has no limit to his strength and endurance the madder he gets the stronger he gets. spiderman could out manuever him for a long time, but the hulk is basically unbeatable.
  3. i know this feeling well Fat Donkey..... it is really hard to keep my mouth shut. I would recommend however that you listen, file the information for what it is, take the useful bits that you learn and use them and dont forget what you already know. There might be an ego clash if you start questioning it all, and i am sure you dont want to go that way. Krav Maga has a great reputation from all i have heard, maybe they start teaching the basics and basic blocks and as you progress move towards the more advanced moves.... At least this way you have some insite on what they are talking about and will catch on much quicker... good luck with your new style, and apologies for your old school closing
  4. Muay Thai Kickboxer brings up a good point.. I think alot of times instructors get carried away with what they are doing and dont realize they are pushing some people to hard. And some people dont understand and think they need to do what the instructors say with no questions.. if either of the two dont pay attention then it can lead to trouble. I know i have to remind myself alot watch for the less experienced people, or the peopel who are more out of shape so they dont get hurt hard to do that when your on a roll though :/
  5. i think i just pulled my groin reading this great going on finding a successful stretch for yourself. I know its hard for me as i find stretching incredibly boring, I have to force myself to do it and event hen i know i dont do as much as i should :/ the closest i coem to regular stretching is my stretch rack i sit in and then pull so it spreads my legs out... ill do it while i watch tv at night. I wish i could motivate myself on stretching... cant figure out why i cant :/
  6. what the Muay Thai Kickboxer states is true. However.... please realize that the more protein you take in the more your kidneys have to process.. If you are not using that protein and it you are taking alot of protein into your system then you are putting a major strain on your kidneys. muscles need protein to grow... but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing :/
  7. no that would be a wrong assumption. i broke an arm doing an arm bar that the person didnt tap, and didnt seem to be feeling it at all. I was wrenching the arm hard and thrusting my hips hard, it was a hell of alot more then ten pounds of pressure. when i broke the leg unintentionally it was a low leg kick in muay thai, and it was the ankle that broke on my opponent, once again it was so far past 10 pounds of pressure it isnt funny. I also unintentionally broke a leg by being pulled over an opponents leg by himself. As i weighed approx 225 pounds at the time, i think its safe to say it was mroe then ten pounds of pressure. I tell you what, instead of telling me im wrong in this, how about you show me some proof that it takes ten pounds of pressure to break a leg or arm of an average adult, and i will be the first person to apologize to you. maybe you dont realize how little ten pounds of pressure is.... in the scenario you are discussing i would be surprised if a 170 pound man isnt generating at least 20-50 pounds of pressure at least. Which is a huge difference from 10 pounds. there is an old riddle about what weighs more... a ton of gold, or a ton of feathers..it has been misunderstood for a long time, let me explain... precious metals are weighed by ounces called troy ounces, but 12 troy ounces of gold equals 16 regular ounces of feathers, so they still weigh the same even though the feathers weigh more ounces then the gold does.. If you measure them by the same ounce scale then the numbers will be the same if that makes sense.. but yes a ton of feathers weighs the same as a ton of gold... the only difference would be that the type of ounces used to measure them differ due to the way each is calculated If you are confused in what i am talking about... the comment about feathers weighing differently originated from this... kind of my point DM. i will let you put 10 pounds on my elbow any way you see fit, my knees as well, and i guarantee 100% unless you add alot of force to it they will not effect my limbs whatso ever. until you start getting about 20-25 pounds i wont be worried. Lets keep this a friendly debate at worst since we both post here and we both have a difference of opinion. I speak from practical experience. I am just asking you to substantiate your claims as they dont make sense to me. Thanks
  8. i will bet that the 115 dollars is an association fee. for example my studio has a monthly rate, it also has a yearly association fee.... ours is only 35 dollars... and i believe the renewal is less. it is basically a way to get more money, there is simply to better way to put it. now if your school is not a main headquarters like mine, then it may make sense. for example its an association or a branch of your instructors teacher. he has to pay his instructor a percentage of his students fees as whatever homage you come up with. anyway you cut it, its a way for the school owner to get more money and not have it appear as a increase in the monthly rates. Also most people who start martial arts quit before a year is up. So this fee can also be a way of getting more money fromt he peopel who are not going to be around.
  9. another good side effect of landing several low leg kicks is that it fatigues the person you are fighting and they will end up flat footed, allowing you to manuever around to their weak side fairly easily. Once a fighter has gone flat footed from leg kicks the fight is over... all that remains is heart
  10. well the absolute best way i have seen was actually taught in brazilian jiu jitsu. you have one leg straight in front of you, you are on your butt facing your opponent, your other leg is bent with knee in air and foot on ground. you take your opposite hand from your bent leg and put it on the ground and then swing your straight leg all the way through and behind you, as you stand to a fighting stance. I have been taught many different ways and this is what i prefer the most
  11. listen bullydog i never stated that, dont put words in my mouth. your numbers are not entirely correct either, maybe agaisnt a child, but not your average adult. and yes i have broken arms and legs both intentionally and unintentionally. I know the amount of force it required for me to do it, and i also know how much a 10 pound weight weights and how much pressure that is and i also know that it requires more then that to break a joint of the average adult
  12. ya i hate to agree with Vito on this one. those numbers are low, and its generally only able to work against a weak angle on the arm or leg,..... i.e. elbow or knee. any of these components can be super intense and make up for defenciencies in the others. super accuracy can make up for a lack of power super power can make up for a lack of accuracy
  13. so im 32 years old. I am in corporate america and sell business phone systems to fortune 500 companies. I am married. I am college educated. I listen to Gangster rap. I have an amplifier in my car so it is loud. I also have a dvd player, and 3 screens. does this mean i never grew up? I also listen to country, rock, oldies, punk, and rockabilly. does this mean im a hick, druggie, old, rebel, oddball? if it does then i guess ill embrace the titles and go enjoy my music.
  14. hello and welcome. I see some new styles i know nothing about and now have to research a little one thing i love about this site is all the different styles i see people come in with, gives me incentive to research them
  15. umm i live in california and i have no idea what you are referring too..
  16. lol now that made me laugh thanks
  17. for the Badger lovers out there... http://www.weebl.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/badger.html
  18. I looked at the resource, and it is fairly good basic information. Some good links to other resources. But it doesnt seem to go into much detail. Anything anyone has seen online similar to this, but with much more detail? Or perhaps a martial arts only history site? BTw Thanks for the link, I enjoyed the read!
  19. ya but all you are doing is assuming(very possibly correctly) that he is thinking they are all martial arts styles... What if he is wondering if the samurais predated those styles, or if those styles were part of the samurais abilities? I see where you are coming from, I am just saying that i have always found it a bit off to assume what someone is asking. OF course it would have been better if his question or intentions was worded better, would have been easier to answer the question.. I definitely dont want to get in an argument, its not my intention.. i should probably just leave my pet peeves to myself.
  20. I have always been interested in Kyokushin. Have never really had time to spend talking or watching a good school though, the ones i saw i was slightly disappointed with. but someday I do plan on spending time looking into it more.
  21. Until his last fight i always liked Roy Jones Jr. After his last fight though i was very disappointed.
  22. thats great.. but i didnt see him actually say that Samurai was a martial art. He just asked what came first or 4 different things. it is definitely possible that he thought it was a martial art but /shrug. One of my pet peeves is when people assume things that are not written or asked about, another pet peeve is when people cannot seem to directly ask what they are wanting to know. I like the information though, I am starting a research project on the history of martial arts atm, and its been very intimidating and only getting more intimidating by the day hehe
  23. rolls are one of the things that students find hardest to learn on average.. some get it right away and for some its a painful ordeal. one tool i use to help people who have trouble getting the rolls is this... I get the large work out balls.. you know the ones you lay on and do sit ups or work with weights.. i have the person lay stomach on the ball... from there they go over the ball and over their shoulder like they are doing the roll.. the ball pushes their legs over and gives them the feel of going over the top, rather then barrel roll when they go over their sides, which in my experience seems to be the biggest problem peopel have. when you say your shoulder hurts it sounds like you are diving into the roll from a standing position, i would recommend doing it from a kneeling position until you have it and then slowly go higher.
  24. AefiBird has all the right answers for you. Basically its going to come down to whats available to you unless you are willing to move to a great school. find out what your options are. find out what fits your needs and desires.. If you live someplace like southern california you pretty much have your choice of hundreds of martial arts and thousands of schools.. its no problem. however if you live in say Little Egypt, Iceland populaition 35 you will not have the options..
