sorry Muay Thai freak, i have to disagree. You do not want to bend your toes, when you bend your toes it stretches the muscle out and allows it to be hurt or torn easier. It also exposes the weak part of your ankle to a devestating injury when you are taking a leg against the shin you do not want to stretch that muscle out, it will lead to inury dont take my word for it though, please go and look up any professional Muay Thai kickboxing site and look at the pictures.. http://www.superleague.tv/gallery_de.php here is one, look throught he picture galleries you will see all the fighters bringing their leg up for shin kicks with toes not pointed. I cannot stress enough that your toes should not be bent. you can adjust your leg for the height of the kick easily I have known very few pro or even really good amateurs who have taken kicks to the toes, you will not want to have a a torn muscle on the front of your shin, or a damaged ankle, because you wanted to point your toes.

Any good School that is going to use you as an instructor should be willing to add you to the insurance list. Great point bringing that up though. If you dont know if you are insured then you should ask.

High School Wrestling
Luckykboxer replied to dratix's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
hrmm we have a few high school wrestlers training with us at our BJJ school. Alot of the techniques used in BJJ are illegal in High School wrestling though. If i were you i would run a search on freestyle and greco roman wrestling. -
you know there are two types of TKD right? International and world? The best form of martial arts is the one that keeps the practioner training, happy and meets all his needs for personal fulfillment. I like to fight, you may like to fight, but someone else may want the cardio aspect, or the self confidence aspect

ya sharp pain = really bad and needs to be dealt with immediatly dull pain can mean you have stretched ligaments, pulled support muscles, torn cartiledge, arthritis, or all or any of the above. knees tend to get beat up fairly easily if you dont warm them up, stretch them out, and take care of them

Kickboxing and injury?
Luckykboxer replied to Eraser's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
well its alot less likely then it is to happen in boxing, and its alot more likely then it is to happen in chess. anytime you get your head jolted you have to realize that your brain shakes around inside your skull, it is not a good thing. are there risks? Of course. are the risks acceptable? depends on you. I couldnt live without risk, i couldnt imagine a world where i couldnt scuba dive, sky dive, fight, drive my motorcycle, shoot my guns, etc.etc. If you have a history of concussions, it is definitely more likely you will suffer another concussion, your best bet is getting a physical from your doctor, state your concerns, and get his opinion on your physical health. NOTE - if your doctor is worth his diploma he is going to tell you you are crazy to kickbox, but realize thats his job. -
anyone who is worth having their name on the marquee uses stunt doubles. Even Wesley Snipes who is a very serious and dangerous martial artist uses stunt doubles. So has or does Chuck Norris, Jet Li, only a fwe that i can think of that do their own stunts are Jackie Chan, and... well thats actually about it. Even Steven Segal who i a serious Aikido practioner uses stunt doubles.

Tai Chi Chuan
Luckykboxer replied to Disciple's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
actually i have been meaning to ask about this.. i hope you dont mind me adding my question to yours.. I dont know about that, but my question is how many forms are there? I have heard everything from there is 1 form, to 24 forms, to many forms, and every answer in between. I havent really thought about asking when i am around people who know, and havent been motivated enough to try to research it at this time. I actually have to learn whatever form it is that my instructor teaches sooner or later though as he added it as a requirement for our third black belt i think... -
welcome! I am curious where you are in AZ, I just bought an investment property in Phoenix, still fairly nervous about it
