i guess it depends on your version of true love. I dont believe two people can look at each other across a room not knowing each other and instantly fall in love and be happy ever after. I do however believe that two people can be in unconditional love with each other and that is in my opinion true love. I think too many people now days want to believe in true love and the first lustful thought they get they contribute to true love, hurry along a relationship, get married, and then soon after realize they made a mistake and split up get divorced etc. hopefully most do that before they have children, if they have to do it at all. I am currently married, getting ready to have my 1 year anniversary, and I honestly believe that she is my true love. We have alot fo different hobbies, we have similar political and religious views, and similar famuily goals, the rest we are able to work together adn be extremely happy. We have known each other for about 18 years, been together as a couple for about 9 1/2 of those years and we waited to get engaged until we had been together for a little over 6 years.. Thats probably longer then was necessary, but we were young and we were changing and i think if we had done soemthing sooner we may have had issues. bah enough babbling

i cannot say this enough. Invest... in a great mouthpiece. do not buy the cheapest pice of plastic you find. your teeth are hard and expensive to replace and will never be the same. head injuries can be permanent and at times fatal. a great mouth piece.... WIPPS for example, there are others, will be the best protection against broken and chipped teeth you can get. It also protects against some of the jarring your brain can take when your head is struck and moves quickly and violently

I have tried no gloves a few times. I have found that with my hands, and i assume its from the force i hit with, that i end up straining my knuckles, or I get bloody knuckles. I have not been able to think of a good reason to condone continuing this for myself, as scars are not something i cheerish or want to have. For those that do use no gloves do you have similar problems? or do you use a specific type of bag that stops this? I ahve used both canvas and the leather bags.... both eat the knuckles up i have seen with canvas being the worst

I guess I never really looked at this section. I am from San Diego, California USA I am currently in a position of diving full force and submersing myself in all things martial arts atm. The reasoning is i am highly considering starting my own school about this time next year. I have trained in Kenpo Karate for about 12 years now, and am preparing for my second Black Belt. I have trained in Muay Thai Kickboxing, and am a Fighter. I train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at this point and am very happy with how it is rouunding out my game. I have trained in Boxing, but really do not like the lack of tools i am able to use, I have had several boxing fights though. The other main martial art I am interested in taking in the future is Aikido I come from a school that is very successful and getting ready to celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. It has over 500 students, and has approximately 30 black belts ranging from 1st black to 6th black belt. I started Martial Arts based on my love for fighting. Only street fighting got too dangerous and i wanted a family and a future.. I didnt want to give up fighting so martial arts was a natural fit. I struggle with the Forms and some of the principles and must always force myself to embrace that side of the arts. Anything contact I crave and enjoy however. I have a fairly extensive resume of fights, from an estimated 500 - 1000 street fights in my younger years, to 72 pit fights, I have been in somewhere around 100 point sparring karate tournaments and never placed less then third in any of those. I have had about 18 kickboxing matches, a handful of boxing matches, and 2 no holds matches. I plan on competing in Jiu Jitsu tournaments soon, and will continue my kickboxing, and soon alot more ho holds barred matches. I have recently starting buying books, videos, anything i can get my hands on to expand my knowledge outside of my base. As I honestly feel that anyone starting a business must me knowledgable about all forms of martial arts. My goal in starting my own school, is to share my knowledge, start a combat team, from point sparring to boxing, kixkboxing, grappling, and no holds barred. I welcome any questions, and have so far enjoyed all i have learned from this site. At age 32 I obviously have some fairly set morals and ethics and will be more then happy to debate the principles of certain ideas or theories. A few of my biggest pet peeves.. people who are so single minded that they think what is best for them is best for everyone. people who have to resort to foul language and personal attacks when they are losing an arguement people who act tough on message boards without any real means of actually having a confrontation... This is a message baord on the internet... everyone is 7 foot tall, 500 pounds and invulnerable on the other end right? /chuckles ignorance. - I have no patience for it. Once a poit has been made and someone continues to fight it out of sheer ignorance i get frustrated. anyways, all questions are welcome, and i will answer most everything other then extremely personal questions. *EDITTED* I forgot to mention I have been assistant instructing at my school for about 4 years now in kenpo, and have been teaching classes for about 1 year now.

ninjas or samuris?
Luckykboxer replied to JLee's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
the whole samurai vs ninja debate reminds me a little of what the world faces today. Obviously in a much looser sense. seems there is a people in the world today willing to do whatever it takes to make a point with no regard to human life, and another groups of people trying to fight the first, but trying to do so with a code of honor and ethics. At some point the code of ethics has to be changed or you lose. Looks like the Samurai did that to deal with the ninja, dont be surprised if you see the same happening today.... funny how history repeats itself -
I do this alot.. some background info.. I am a pro kickboxer, I am a pit fighter, have karate adn muay thai training. I am big... 230ish pounds give or take 10 depending on time of the day it seems I use hand wraps, and depending on the type of bagwork i am doing i will either wear 16 ounce gloves, or 12 ounce gloves. I hate using bag gloves, they dont fit right, they dont have a very good edge to hit with and they seem to be distracting. They also have no weight, so it doesnt help train your muscles as well as the heavier glvoes do. just my opinion though

when you say you broke 12 inches of concrete... do you mean several 2 or 3 inch bricks with spacers? or do you mean 12 inches of concrete? I have to assume you mean bricks with spacers. but grats on that.

I guess the true answer for this will be answered when every major fighter in every major type of fighting announces unanimously that they either do or dotn do strength training with weights. Since I doubt that will never happen, I guess you have to just assume that all peopel are not created equal, and that that every person must work on his weak points, for some that means weight training, for others that means no weights at all. There are certain types of people that are so big naturally that if they worked with weights it would hinder them. There are others who are so small naturally that not working with weights would hinder them. Who are any of us to tell those people that they are wrong?

congrats. -
It almost shocks me that peopel are telling someone who readily admitted to having a severe weight problem, and a learning disability how to eat. Someone who is grossly overweight like this needs a doctor diagnossis before starting any diet plan. nothing short of a certified nutritionist should work with this person. Thats my advice. If you want to live... If you want to stay alive... go see your doctor now. if you dont care about your health enough to see a doctor then it wont matter what is typed up here it will never help you. Good luck with your weight loss. I truely hope you are successful

could be he hit you on a nerve point with a middle finger punch as well. I can see huge differences between two punches of the same speed and power, if one is directed on an area thats just muscle and another is on a nerve point with a single knucle as the focus point.... that can send shivers to your toes!

hehe why am i reminded of the phrase... Walk tall and carry a big stick?

this topic is getting old.... and i have only been to these boards a short time. I tell you what, why dont you contact only people just stop beating around the bush and just say the following from now on.... IF you arent a 230 pound 6 foot + tall Man with the ability to break briocks and bend steel, and if you havent killed anyone, and if you havent had at least 500 fights, and if you dont train full contact then you might as well be playing video games. Because regardless of what you are saying... thats all i hear from the pathetic words i see typed. one day you will understand that YOUR REASON FOR DOIN MARTIAL ARTS IS NOT EVERYONES REASON FOR DOING MARTIAL ARTS!

i have used one, I was pretty happy with it, its obviously not a hanging bag, but for what it is its great

Rear clinch
Luckykboxer replied to muaythaifreak's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
this technique is in many styles of martial arts, including kenpo karate.. It is illegal in muay thai sport fighting... only would be used in street fights or a life and death scenario. -
Sparring Equipment
Luckykboxer replied to sleepychameleon's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
hey Sleepy.. I fyou are in the Bay Area there is a great school that I have alot of respect for there.. Its called Golden State Taekwondo... I believe. There is an Eddie Kroft(might be mispelled) that either owns it or is one of the main instructors. Their skills are excellent, and Eddie is a pro boxer, so they have excellent footwork, bodywork, and handwork with a little outside influence. I know its unrelated, but i thought i would share -
maybe this has been said and maybe not... but i just cant bring myself to read all the posts over and over so ill just post my thoughts. I was a hard core street fighter with no training.. just hundreds and hundreds of fights... both on the street, in bars, at organized pit fights, etc. not one lick of martial arts training other then the old chinese kung fu theater movies i watched as a child on saturday mornings. At one point when there was a fight going on and someone said... " i have to warn you im a black belt" I would smile and walk up and step in and say great then you can fight me. I never once lost a fight to these so called black belts. Now one thing to note here... while i did fight alot, i did and still do have my own ethical code. I NEVER FOUGHT ANYONE THAT DIDNT WANT TO FIGHT. I NEVER HURT ANYONE AFTER THE FIGHT WAS OVER. I NEVER PUSHED ANYONE INTO A FIGHT THAT WASNT ALREADY PUSHING FOR IT. I NEVER THREW THE FIRST PUNCH IN MY FIGHTS, UNLESS THEY WERE PIT FIGHTS WHERE I WAS PAID. now, that brought me eventually to a point that i had to choose.... stop fighting the way i was so i could move on with my life and start a family...... or keep up and go to jail or worse.. I chose to look at martial arts schools, and clean up my act. I went to 23 schools. I still have all my original notes on each school. I told my story and stated what i wanted. In all but 4 schools they let me spar their black belts. out of the 19 schools i fought at, 2 impressed me, 1 happened to be my kenpo karate school i still train at. So i joined. I got to purple belt, and had to move from san diego to san francisco california. Once again I had to search for a new school. this time it was 42 schools. I was allowed to spar at every school but 2. Out of all those schools I was so disgusted and disappointed that i almost quit martial arts for good... I did quit for 4 years. The only school that had fighters of any level that was impressive was a tae kwon do school. The owner of the school was a pro boxer as well, so the school had great footwork and bodywork to go with the tae kwon do. I was only going to be able to attend 2 days a week and was discouraged and left. Eventually i moved back to san diego, continued at my old school and got my black belt. In the time i have been fighting, both in and out of karate I would estimate i have fought well over 300 black belts in different forms of martial arts. I have also fought a few hundred street fighters with no formal training at all. I would have to say that by far the street fighters with no training were more impressive as a whole then all the black belts i fought. My conclusions to this are multiple. First - there is no substitute for practical first hand experience. what i mean here is that if someone fights all the time, they will get good(or get dead!!) the tough good street fighters learn from experience and they live the life... a tough life, but its what they know and in most cases enjoy. second - techniques and skills taught in martial arts(all styles) are great and when coupled with real life experience make someone that much better then another person with equal experience but no training. third. - techniques and skills taught in martial arts(all styles) will help people who understand body mechanics, and basic principles and are able to use them when in a situation... this type of knowledge without the extension training on bodies is very rare in my experience however. fourth - techniques and skills taught in martial arts(all styles) will give a false sense of security to individuals who do not practice them correctly. If an individual knows how to punch, yet practices punching 1 inch off their target every time, they will not only not feel comfortable hitting a target when the time comes, but they will not be used to how that feels. This coupled with the additional adrenaline and agitation that comes from real combat situations tends to be too much for individuals to overcome or deal with. In the fourth scenario is where the problem lies. People learn techniques, they can recite them under safe conditions, they practice them in safe conditions, yet when the time comes to use them they are not used to dealing with all the additional features from that scenario. It isnt a knock on any martial arts style, rather a knock on the instructor for not setting the right framework, or the right thought process. There is no problem in non combat martial arts, as long as the expectations are set correctly, and as long as it is understood what is not being included.... If the right expectations are set, it can turn a persons reacitons from the fourth scenario i explained above to the third scenario i explained. Other intangibles are obviously things like outside factors.... drug use and abuse will create situations where an opponent wont feel pain and make it harder to deal with. years of building up the body with a tolerance to pain, and the ability to absorb blows as compared to a skilled martial artist with less tolerance to blocking solid shots will effect the outcome. strength and power in a non trained opponent can overcome a trained martial artist in some situations. I hope this makes sense. I am in no way or means knocking any forms of martial arts here. I think every form of martial arts has benefits, I think that alot of times instructors of some martial arts are to narrow minded in their intent and do not look fully at the big picture and how they effect their students.

hrmm i dont use it very often but when i do I have developed mine to the point it sounds like.. DIE... but depending on when i am using it it can be more drawn out then others.. DIEEEEEE etc.

thats all fine and dandy. but with the court and criminal systems what they are today, if you do not demonstrate having made an attempt to pacify the situation you will be charged with any number of charges ranging from mayhem, to agravated assault, to worse depending ont he damage done to an opponent. I have never been one to agree with warning an opponent you are a trained fighter, I see no reason to put all your cards on the table, and just doing what i posted earlier is more then enough.

ideas for breaking demo?
Luckykboxer replied to granmasterchen's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
actually the baseball bats on the shin is pretty cool, and gets a good impression from the audience. It is fairly easy as well. my favorite there is the speed break where you have an assistant hold a bat straight up in the air and you do a speed break on the handle. the only problem here is the bats are fairly expensive to go breaking unless its something fairly big you are doing it for
