Ok This is a serious subject, and I am looking for some serious feedback. I am absolutely Furious, and am trying to be objective as possible before i make any decisions. Here is the background. First of all... Before I got into the martial arts I was a scary person. Fighting was both a job and a hobby for me, neither being on the right side of the law. I have known and still know many unsavory types of people, although all of them accept me for what i am now. I tend to look at fighting as a game. hence all my competitions and legal fights. Hell other then a few situations i couldnt avoid i havent had a non sanctioned fight outside of the ring for years and years. I do still however run into that urge to unload when provoaked or taunted, I am able to control myself and havent had any issues sicne i decided to not fight illegally anymore. now to the next part. last friday night I was leaving a leadership training meeting at my studio and found myself in a situation where two cars with 4 guys in it basically had my blocked off. I am pretty sure they were looking for a victim. When I was confronted i got out of my car so i could have some room, and i think it surprised the guys pretty much to see someone my size get out of the car for one, and then put myself in a position that they couldnt attack me all at once, and also not back down but hold my ground. One of the guys pulled a gun, I was able to keep my head and i think from pure intimidation was able to stave off a bad situation from escalating. I was able to get in my car and get away with no violence. now I was furious, not so much that i was confronted by 4 guys, that has happened several times int he past and i have always had fun wth it... remember for me fights are fun... I was furious at the lack of honor these guys had, i mean they had 4 people and i was 1 person adn they still pulled out a gun. Well the more i thought of it the madder i got and i called the cops and headed back. No people, cops never found them. It literally ruined my weekend as i couldnt get past the anger i was feeling. I put the word out to several of my old associates and sure enough today i recieved word that the people have been found, along with their names, addresses, where they hang out, the entire deal. Now the cops wont do anything, its a he said she said with no proof or eye witnesses just their word against mine. What i am having a dilemna with is what to do. I cant seem to let this go, which i really think i should. Everything inside me is screaming to teach these guys a lesson. I dont want to kill anyone or severly injur anyone, but i am damn sure wanting to teach them some respect and get that gun an any others off the streets. I have decided to give this another week and try to calm down and let it pass, but if i dont know if i am still feeling then what i am feeling now if i can let it go. Any advice from anyone? Anyone been in a similar situation? Thanks

How do you summon your "Chi"
Luckykboxer replied to Red Triangle student's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I usually use a 16 ounce filet mignon, a lobster tail, and fine wine. Actually though we had a black belt do his black belt thesis on Chi. It was actually very impressive. I am going to see if i can get a copy and post it here. I think alot of people would enjoy it -
there are people like this everywhere. You know them.. The guy in school who is taking the same class for the third time and thinks he is superior because he knows the curriculum. or The guy who watched the time delayed show and tries to get everyoen to think hes brilliant because he can guess whats happening. or the guy that is a little bigger then the rest of the kids playing dodgeball and he tosses the ball as hard as he can at the others instead of using skill because he wants to be feared rather then respected. they are a dime a dozen, they are everywhere, and unfortunately they come in contact with normal people every day. Dont let him get to you, be the bigger man, dont stoop down to his level.

What did Bruce Lee die from?
Luckykboxer replied to RONIN W's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
the answer to this lies in the same place as who actually killed Kennedy, who and where Jimmy Hoffa is buried, and where the lost ark of the covenant is at. so many theories, so many peopel wanting to believe so many different things and everyone extremely passionate about it. One thing for sure its a testament to how much he enthralled the world that this long after his death people still talk about him daily. -

Has anybody read the Book of Five Rings
Luckykboxer replied to Samurai Shotokan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yes, it is actually a requirement for 2nd Black in my system as well. the thing is there are several different translations, and they come across a little differently depending on who you read. great book. amazing how things hundreds of years ago remain so true to this day -

I have a Atama, and a Koral. the Atama seems a little lighter even though both are single weave. I like both and havent yet developed a preference for either one -
Radok yes both legs together as far as stances go.. I would probably word it more as footwork then stances. the way i was taught had me operating on the balls of my feet alot. everything is taught from a front stance i guess is the best way to put it. I know that peopel like Maurice smith have tapes they sell where they say they teach you stances... I have never seen the tapes and as such am not sure what they show. I could be misunderstanding you as well, as stances i think of all the stances i have in kenpo like, nuetral bow, forward and backward bows, close kneel, twist, wide kneel, it goes on and on..

Yes I misunderstood your question then. for weight training you have leg curls and extensions, squats, leg presses, hack squats, lunges, frog jumps, etc. those are all exercises that will build your leg muscles, I know there are hundreds more but those are the only things i really use other then jump rope. also while if you attend a full contact school you might catch on to lowkicks sooner, it isnt exactly necessary. A kick is a kick afterall, and the only thing that really is going to change is the intention. I recommend giving it a shot with some like minded individual, a friend or another student at your school. Obviously if you are wanting to leave your style and train full contact more thats a different story Its hard sometimes to picture what another persons experiences in their studio is like when all I have to go off of is my own experiences.

Thanks I am debating now on spending the extra money for a custom fitted Gi... pricy but i really like the idea of having it made custom for me..

i just had my brand new Atama Jiu Jitsu gi completely spoiled from the person i was rolling withs blood. I went immediately after training to the store and bought a big thing of oxyclean, I used that and cold water and i got almost everything out immediately i then threw it in the wash with tide with bleach and i can barely see remnants of the spots and only the most drastic ones, and even then i have to look close.

hrmm there are mixed camps on whether to use heat or cold. I prefer only icing an area that is swollen, resting it, and then as it gets better to stretch it slowly. some people will say to alternate heat and cold on it. I dont agree with this. Others will say just heat, once again I am not a big fan of heating up an injury. In my opinion, and im not a doctor, i only have practical first hand knowledge with myself, If i have something that is enflamed and swollen and sore i ice it and i stay away from heat until the aggravation goes down.

If you want to look good in a fight then go take gymnastics instructions, boxing instructions, and whatever else you want to and then go fight in the ring. If you want to win a fight, then you do whatever is necessary to win, period end of story. If you have some big guy picking on you and tormenting you and he has you cornered and is going to beat your *, then you use whatever means necessary to defend yourself. whether its a kick to the groin, or to the knees, or whatever

ok first off squats are a general muscle builder, not specific to Muay Thai. Obviously you know that squats build leg muscle. I had to assume you were not ignorant to weighttraining in general when i posted otherwise i would have said squats to build muscle. as far as practicing taking hits, it doesnt take a full contact school. It takes a pair of shin guards and someone to kick you, I am sure you can find that. Yes he means Muay Thai Kicks ont he heavy bag, you can do TKD kicks as well but then you would be training for TKD and not Muay Thai. You can fight a Muay Thai fighter with TKD kicks and you will probably have varying degrees of success, but I think it is safe to assume that since you were asking specifically about Muay Thai that that is what he means. Muay Thai training is not easy, its not painless. But like anything else if you want to be great at it you have to push through that. good luck with the training
