  1. buddy.... your 15!!!! enjoy High School It is great to be so enthusiastic about something, but i would be really hesitant in recommending a 15 year old dedicate so much time to one thing... Sure you may end up being a phenomenon and transforming the martial arts world someday, and will look back and be glad you spent so much time doing it. But on the other hand you may miss alot of the activities high school has to offer and look back regretting it. Just keep your options open is all i ask as an outside observer
  2. ya and the guy who was booted from Napma.... has now started his own organization called MATA(martial arts teachers association?) he is heavily pursuing the napma client list and is making claimst hat he is the force behind napma and that napma is now a craphole..... get ready for Century vs MATA really soon im sure
  3. I wouldnt necessarily say its too much in and of itself. I would say it depends on what the rest of your life is like, job, social, religion, etc.etc.etc. I know of several pro fighters that train 6 to 8 hours a day in martial arts. It just depends on what you can do and still mainatin a healthy lifestyle
  4. so you think only untrained people have street fights? I would have to disagree to a point and say that most people who are going to press the issue and get into a street fight have some kind of an edge... most untrained people are going to avoid a fight if they can, and i know alot of street fighters that can more then hold their own against traditionally trained people..
  5. welcome aboard
  6. I think I know what you are talking about now, I dont htink I would call that a cutkick, but rather a sweep. could be we are talking about the same thing but only semantics is keeping us apart here. but when i am doing a sweep to the support leg it is much much different from a kick /shrug
  7. i have been running crazy... so much in fact that i am so tired i am debating going to go train... have to leave in about 20 mins if i am going to go.... if i dont ill end up at the gym in an hour and half or so. /shrug will see here soon
  8. 1 - auto log in 2 - random as can be... i usually check the forums i am most interested in first and then go from there.
  9. i think muay thai kickboxing should be an olympic sport.... complete with knees and elbows
  10. i think his question was more asking if the only way to become a great fighter is to have actual fights... I think your answer is more directed to him if he had asked if real fights can make everyone a great fighter. I agree that not everyone will become great if they have real fights, but i also stronly believe that only by having real fights can someone become a truely great fighter... if that makes sense
  11. ya no kidding smart *. try reading a few posts down. I even stated in that post that i was guessing off the top of my head, after going back and researching it i reposted. I was wrong, I guess i could have gone back and editted my response but i saw no reason to, I guess the person who posted probably could have done the same research i did but /shrug at least i added what i found. glad to amuse you, and i love reading all your contributions to this board... oh ya nevermind i havent read any.
  12. valetudo to answer your question, some muay thai kicks will have a snap to them, it depends on what your intention with the kick is. If you are thinking of the classic round house power kicks to the thigh, those generally do drive through the target rather then snap, but there are many kicks to the inner thigh for example that can have a snap to them
  13. cut kick? LOL I dont want to tell you your business but a cut kick is done mostly to the inner thigh in sport fighting, at least all i have seen... I am curious where you fight in sport Muay Thai that allows you to cut kick to the knee or lower..
  14. ya im going to have to disagree with you, we may be talking about the same thing, but the extra oomph on the end is indeed generated by torque when i throw it. If you want to call it something different thats fine, but I know the way i throw it, and i know how i throw it, and i know what torque is. I am not sure where you got your list of seven, but thats the first time i have seen that so it may be your instructors own drawn up information.. Not saying it is wrong, but i am saying it isnt the bible of muay thai I am a little confused about your steps as well... Gravitation according to the dictionary is... The natural phenomenon of attraction between massive bodies. The act or process of moving under the influence of this attraction. A movement toward a source of attraction. I am not sure how that is a step and Triangulation is.. 1 a method of surveying in which an area is divided into triangles, one side (the base line) and all angles of which are measured and the lengths of the other lines calculated trigonometrically 2 the network of triangles so formed 3 the fixing of an unknown point, as in navigation, by making it one vertex of a triangle, the other two being known 4 (Chess) a key manoeuvre in the endgame in which the king moves thrice in a triangular path to leave the opposing king with the move and at a disadvantage I am very confused by the use of this word as well... If it is referring to the three dimensional patterns of movement that can be made, some are indeed triangles but there are many many more shapes and patterns that can be made, so i think that would be an inappropriate word. If you are talking about a 3 point attack, I am just not sure what you are getting at.. Do you have a definition to the terms you are talking about and why they work..I am sure they have a proper meaning, I just cant get it out of the word itself adn i have never seen it used before with any muay thai trainer i have worked with. The reason I stated Torque is probably apparant in the dictionary version.... The moment of a force; the measure of a force's tendency to produce torsion and rotation about an axis, equal to the vector product of the radius vector from the axis of rotation to the point of application of the force and the force vector. A turning or twisting force. by turning/twisting the punch downward at the last instant you generate torque and increase the effectiveness of the strike.
  15. kicking the knee is illegal. It is hard to kick the knee unless you have your opponent offbalance or stuck on his leg. the targets for kicking are the thigh anyways either the outside or inside depending on whats open, kicking to the knee or shin/calf are not advisable, easily stepped or blocked and can often put you in a bad position to take punishment. I cant think of even 1 positive reason to go for the knee or lower in a kickboxing fight..... street fight maybe... but not in a kickboxing match, and escpecially not the K1 to answer your question its all of the above on your questions, I know it is against K1 rules, but not sure what the penalty is on first warning
  16. there are three types of jabs really... and they can all be good, or bad depending on who you are fighting. It is very good to be proficient in using adn countering all three. Lenox Lewis had a great Jab, its about the only thing i liked about him. there are snapping jabs, quick jabs, that strike and follow back quickly along the path they came in on. there are power jabs that hit and go through the target. and there are falling jabs, that strike and fall down(this is usually done by untrained people) I personally have knocked people out with my jab, so anyone telling you a jab is not that powerful is not thinking things out. Its funny you mention JKD, and the jab specifically... I happen to go off hte premise of my powerhand being the rear hand, but with JKD they have the powerhand up front and the weaker hand in back so it can pick up speed and be stronger when used as a reverve punch.. Both have credence, as a matter of fact when i am fighting in a point sparring tournament, or a continuous sparring tournament i completely switch my stance and fight the JKD way.... even though i never took JKD training. When I am fighting Boxing(ewww) Kickboxing, or NHB i fight with my powerhand in back.... or basically a standard stance... /shrug dont know if i confused or helped you
  17. i dont think it has anything to do with the power, but the technique, when i was new i hurt the top of my foot often due to hitting the bag wrong. As my technique and form got better I havent hurt the top of my foot in ages... Could be from conditioning i guess, but im pretty sure in my case anyways i was just hitting wrong
  18. the better word here would be Torque. they are adding some torque into the punch by shifting it downward, and yes it is very similar too how it is taught in Kenpo.
  19. ill post here as soon as i have the correct price and info, ill post exactly what it is you will get and post a link tot he website specifically so you can decided whether you want it or not, after that we can talk offline via email or phone. I should know on Monday or Tuesday at the latest
  20. damn does this mean i have to throw away all my boxers, spandex and camoflaged strips? /sigh time to go shopping
  21. I am at a loss for words
  22. that almost sounds like Danny Perez. he was stabbed several times a few years ago. recovered, trained and recently had his first fight back, but they had called him well in advance... funny thing is thats his weight class as well. He fights again next weekend against the number 2 contender. His fight was only on spanish television as far as i know though.
  23. i would say that is part of the western world.. I would also say that another part of the western world has improved martial arts better then anything there was before... definitely not with XMA though thats pretty much a showy theatrical thing.. hey kind of like all those chinese movies with all the flying martial artists..... the original XMA anyone? hmmm
  24. you have a sense of humor? I missed it i guess hehe my point was that you are throwing a backhanded riddicule of anyone choosing the break boards option.
