  1. Cool. Very nice. I would not have thought about using the right hand. Thank you! what do you think about bunkai of turning left but this time middle block instead of down block then punch.
  2. how about this, when you turn , your right back hand palm softly diverts an opponent left punch from under your left hand which is raised now, then you left forearm down block actually strike the back of the opponent elbow then step up(out) and right punch to the rib.
  3. i have a defensive mind set, so most likely i wouldn't throw the first punch, if i can maintaine the proper distance. i am disagree with Bushido man96 about similarity between sparring and fighting ,may look the the same but quiet different. for a well trained person street fighting is easier than sparring. street fight helps your sparring but sparring won't help that much on the street. hard blocking works on the street but it won't work that good for sparring, because there is no commitment in sparring, it's all checking and response to checking.
  4. We will have a group class on 8/27/06( Sat. 9-12) in Houston (bellaire area), doing katas, kihons and ykusokos. if anyone intrested let me know.
  5. yes, the katas he is looking for predate Shotokan version, original Matsumura seito doesn't have many katas, but if you see them you can recognize them. i'll check my tape and will post the closet version to Matsumura Seito,
  6. you can't find them on the net, there is a tape you can buy about Hohen Soken in this tape one of his students performs Naihanchi series and Pinan of Matsumura Seito, plus some weapons and crane kata,
  7. it could be any style, but with his mentality it looks like a semi contact or full contact style, he was not taging and his stance was high, may be chinese kempo.

  9. I read this several times and also two more incidents you wrote about them before, to be honest with you, what you did is pretty fine for your age other than that It’s a show off and unnecessary to chamber your leg and torque your hip and ready to fire in half a second, just think about it for a second, a drunk man without balance gets kicked to the head, there is a good chance he dies. Maybe he just felt you are a nice guy and wanted to ask for a quarter.

  11. my first DL # was like 00000007
  12. i think the best is "Texas hold'em", check in most cases means you don't wanna bet more and wanna see the cards, of course if the player before you has increased the bet you can't say "check" .
  13. karate as the main style is hard to find, but i like "fighter in the wind"

i don't know under what situation they made the video, could be after a long practice day and every body was just tired. to me the guy close to the cammera is pretty good. it's abvious that it's not his best and he is kinda relaxed, you can see it even at the start of the video when they just finish naihanchi sandan,
  16. Don't do it in your house, go to a public place. there is allways chance of severe injury and liability issues, without a proper insurance it's not worth taking the risk. a friend of ours is a surgeon and has a small dojo in his parking, he only teaches some close friends free of charge, and it's not a commercial dojo, somebody brough a friend along and he practiced we them, a week later the guy called our friend and complained of neck injury, now he is sueing our friend for his injury.

i have only seen this in Gojushiho that we use the finger side to strike down and up, in white crane katas you can see using the wrist side too,but we don't use the flat surface ,we use it with some angle , like all the blocks with outter edge of the wrist and attaking high punch with inner edge of the wrist. one good example for this hand technique is Anan kata toward the end you can see two blocks using this hand form. http://www.wonder-okinawa.jp/023/eng/010/002/001.html

i don't think if you ever see a world class kata performer taller than 6'.
  19. I like Uechi ryu
  20. i wish you could name them , this way we get to know more about your style, and it's differences from main stream shotokan.

    Seisan

We don't practice Seisan in shorinkan, i got the kata through shobayashi lineage. what style of shorin ryu do you practice?

many people know this kata as Hangetsu , your version is a short version of shuri te seisan, most versions have 3 kicks toward the end , yours has two, in older versions the last kick is a crescent kick which you still can see in Hangetsu, the only unorthodox part of your version as shohan mentioned before is stances through out the kata.
  23. There is a balance for speed , power and technique, if you have good physical strength and powerfull strikes then you should capitalize on that , show powerfull hits with good technique. if you are light and fast then capitalize on good technique and fast striks . in any case technique is a part that can't be scrificed, and each technique needs to show itself without being mixed with the next move. i think you should keep your pace, speed of a kata is different from speed of a fight.
  24. years ago supreme court ruled that death by Chuck's round hous kick falls under cruel and unusual punishment and is unconstitutional.
  25. it was very good actually, some of the kicks was so so for obviouse reason of course.
