  2. how about your boy friend dojang,do you have to start from white belt if you go there?
  3. go to a kendo school, weapon is not an official part of Okinawan goju ryu.
  4. if you are doing full contact sparing somewhere elss then don't bother on taging ,it's not gonna improves your fighting skills , concentrate on other skills you can learn from them.
  5. if this the only way you can get instrauction, then that's the way to go, i hope you got a training partner at least. good luck
  6. who was the girl Kate could talk to her for a second? the whole part about lightning arrester was lame. they could do better.
  7. i think it has a strange smell, but it taste fine. i actually had some New England chicken corn chowder today, taste good. I like Chinese soup too.
  8. i see some great posts here, even as a Okinawan shuri-te practitioner i don' see problem with most of Shotokan katas, they are different but still teach the same concepts of okinawan te, but i have to say there are some important katas which have been altered too much that the original concept is not there any more, i don't wanna get into a long story but i have watched and practiced Tekki , and i don't see any thing close to Naihanchi in it. the moves are almost identical but bunkai and meaning of Naihanchi dachi or ippon sanchin dachi is not there, when i read that motobu sensei says "my fighting stance is Naihanchi" or "Naihanchi is enough for mastery of karate" it makes sense to me but i don't think that it makes sense to a shotokan practitioner doing tekki. i think these are the most troubled katas in Shotokan. 1-Tekki compare to Naihanchi 2-Bassai dai compare to itosu no passai 3-Matsumura no passai which is not there anymore 4-Hangetsu compare to Naha-te Seisan or even shuri-te seisan just my 2 cents,
  9. too hard from okinawan karate perspective.
  10. 1- i stay inside and throw my both hands out at the same time. 2- main thing is to keep the eyes open with correct gaurd and posture, and not to get sloppy with your jabs.there is no way to win a fight without getting hit.
  11. you run from one saloon to another in last 30 min. hopeing to find a Jet Lee movie while your wife watching a new version of gone with wind and waiting for you to come back with popcorn. you wakeup at the middle of the night screaming that you missed you MA class. your wife swears that you didn't.
  12. I think his offer is fair, plus if you start really strong he may change his mind and let you get your belt back sooner.
  13. in Okinawan karate, they train the grip in both direction when you close it under pressure and when they open it under pressure, i allways found the opening part more demanding, you make a bullet from your fingers and hit a bucket of corn(beans) all the way to the bottom and then try to open the fingers all the way then close a pull back.
  14. same here, i sleep 1AM and have to wake up 6:15 i really can't do it in the morning, but i do some kata with shime every night before going to bed.
  15. i pay $40 per month for 3 days white crane/ weapons , then $30 for once a week shorin ryu, and $25 for once a week another shorin ryu school, but most of the times i can manage only 2 days per week.

  17. North Chinese pronunce it "gong fu" or "gon fu"
  18. look under seiyunchin, the first link "ps1" posted is what you looking for, the goju kai version, okinawan version is slightly different.
  19. most of the times you can start the rolling from a sitting position, and still do a great work out. for me, 20 min good bjj practice is equal to 40 min kata practice(not sparring) if not more.
  20. wellcome to KF , what kind of Goju you practice?
  21. P.A.L

    Ryu Te?

it's very close to what we practice in white crane, i like to see the way they do katas though, as for item three(3). it's not just a vital point, we call it target of opportunity but in white crane karate jutsu we normally hit and block at the same time and lock/tear comes right after which makes a vital point open for a last hit. do you work on body conditioning.
  22. i think it has like 19g suger per serving, i drink the Arizona diet green tea.

    Ryu Te?

1- have you started any kata 2- does it follow the concept of blocking and hitting at the same time? 3- does it follow the concept of hitting a vital point before applying a lock?
  24. bruises are bad. when doing body conditioning, you should not get to this point. you will actually slow your training some. You are right about bruises but what do you think the mechanism of hardening the bones is? I just think without creating micro fractures in bone it would not create calluses, which make the structure of a bone denser.
  25. We do exactly the way you do, hitting a wraped wooden post(kind of makiwara), shin to shin drill and forarm drill, i started it two years ago with my new sensei at that time , I was on the floor after 5-6 shin to shin kicks, now a days i can easily stand 30-40 of his kicks,IMO the important thing is to wait and heal bruises before resumming the hardening drills otherwise it may become a stress fracture.
