Chi-I-Do
Master Jules replied to JKDkid2's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Chi-I-Do is an Organization founded by Master Kow Loon (Kayo) Ong, one of the foremost Masters of Goju Ryu in the world.....He was a student of Toguchi, amongst others, and was head of the Shoreikan under Toguchi in 1973......I noticed that sevsn star mentioned something about "reputations".......this isnt a "created style"......this is Goju Ryu in its MOST traditional and orthodox form........secondly......Goju Ryu is OKINAWAN, not Japanese.......many of the Japanese masters didnt "get" many of the subtle nuances of the system, because they DIDNT have a Chinese backround, and could speak the language.......Goju Ryu descends from Naha-Te, under Kanryo Higashionna, and further back, his teacher from Fukien province in China was Ru Ru Ko, of the White Crane system.........again.....the Okinawans have a much closer tie to the Chinese then the Japanese do......the Satsuma clan invaded and occupied Okinawa from the mid 1600's, and changed the meaning of the original "kara-te" characters.....it originally meant "China hand".....not "empty hand".......in any case......Master Ong is by far one of the most highly sought after Masters of Goju in the entire world.....not only for his phenomenal depth of knowledge, but in his literally amazing ability to actually "do".......If you look at the Chi-I-Do patch (on the gi).....It says....."The fine art of Goju Ryu"......The Hammer......is a long time student of Kayo, and he will (if youre out there Hammer).....back me up on this.....I have also trained ubder them for a short time several years ago.......Kayo and his organization is the furthest thing from "one of those guys" as seven star said. -
Agreed......lol

Corrections arent made in a malicious way......they are for your benefit.....so you can become better, both as a person, and as a martial artist.....remember...there is no such thing as a stupid question....it shows that you recognize that you DONT know something....but want to. An instructor should know that your questions come from curiousity, and a desire to learn "why" something is done the way it is.....not to be disrespectful to him as if youre questioning his own understanding of a technique, but to better your own understanding......questions should always be rewarded with answers.

From what Ive seen, and been told by friends whove been in TKD/Hapkido for 20+ years......TKD is about 70/30 feet/hands whereas Hapkido is the converse....about 70/30 hands/feet.....more "grappling techniques" such as locks and throws......this combination seems to encompass what you need to fight at "distance", as well as "the inside". -
Look .....were all guilty of "one liners"......Mostly, its just to point out that whomever made a previous post, you felt made a good point.....If you dont think so.....then write why.......If you agree.....does it really matter that we say "good point".....it just shows that you agree with what was said, and want to let the poster know that you do.......as far as the forum "ranking system" goes......it means nothing in regards to your skills as a martial artist.......so what do you care what belt someone is ?????? Post your opinions....short or long........posters will answer as they see fit......If short answers offend you.......write long ones......If you dont like reading short posts.....dont......If it offends you THAT much.......find another forum.......no offense....just my opinion........I hope this post was long enough for you.....

MM speaks the truth.......whats wrong with a gift at ANY time.....either way......its about the thought of appreciation from one person to another.....what could be wrong with that ??????

LOL......good thing too......that *'ll kill ya -
nothing negative towards you in any way......Im sure after all the years of training you have under your belt (pardon the pun) your technique is really good...IE...your punch is probably pretty hard......I have seen people that have claimed to be "Chi masters", and I too have dropped them with solar plexsus shots, and shots to the throat......I then highly doubted their abilities as well as you have through your experiences.....but I have also worked with legitimate masters who I simply didnt affect in any way at all........I was just tossing out the possibility that maybe the "master" with whom you had your experience was not quite legitimate in his abilities, as some that I have seen as well......we both know through many years on and off the mat that not everyone is what they claim to be.......Im pretty sure you would agree.....no ?

Believe me MM.....it was MORE than enough for me too BTW.....it felt really good when he cracked an escrima stick across my ribs during Sanchin kata.....aside from the escrima stick.....he also cracked two ribs......that made sparring TONS of fun....... -
Help I need advice for solo training!!!!!
Master Jules replied to Samurai Shotokan's topic in Karate
Exactly. -
Yes.....however, Miyagi died in 1953......there is a scene where they are on a beach performing kata.....very poorly I might add....that kata is seyunchin, but they are just repeating one segment of it over and over again.......also, in the fight scene where "daniel -san" is up on one leg, and does the jump kick to win, he is actually in the white crane stance (again, very poorly done).....Goju Ryu decsends from White Crane.

Thank you Sempai.....funny you would quote Mr Miyagi from the Karate kid movies......thats the style that I teach......Goju Ryu.
