  1. In kickboxing you are usually exposed to full contact after 1 to 2 years of training. You know punches and kick hurts and you need to be fit and conditioned.
  2. Ah I don't know either, it depends on the situations, I think with multiple opponents I would bet on the striker, single unarmed opponent both are good, single armed (knife or stick) I don't know maybe in this case the grappler has more chances.
  3. During summer in my kung fu school we can wear our summer uniform which is chuen trousers, white shirt and belt. Also in my karate class we can wear t-shirts a gi is required only during the summer exams
  4. I agree I come from kickboxing and I'm doing also Tai chi, sanchin dachi and Sheiko dachi are strange at the beginning... you have to get used to it.
  5. I decided to take martial art last year (March 2003) and I'm the only one in my family doing it. However when my father was young (back in the 40s) did boxing and greco-roman wrestling which were the only MAs available at that time in Italy.
  6. Hi Monkeygirl. How do you liquefy Bacon?
  7. Please notice the shape of the aliens. Maybe is no longer true that bricks and board do not hit back.
  8. I think that training should be as hard as you can afford. But then the problem is: how much can you afford? People have different training time, ages, sexes, body build etc. There is not a fixed recipe for all. What can be good for a strong 21 years old manual worker can be definitely not so good for a oversize 50 years old beginner. So anybody should find their way to training which should be gradual, as intense as your health allows but not more.
  9. Welcome. Recently someone from the Canadian side of Niagara Falls Joined this forum (I think it was Enzo&Laura). I've been there it is a nice place.
  10. Welcome I'm also in Go ju ryu (since little time before I did kickboxing) and I did also JKD/Kali escrima for a little while.
  11. France is dangerous on the latest minutes of the game. I still remember the grand final of the european championship in 2000 when we were winning 1-0 at the last minute then they scored, there was the extra time and then they scored again and it was over.
  12. I think you need a full contact self defence based MA like kickboxing (with self defence application),Muay Thai, Krav Maga, JKD (if done properly). Then you can add some grappling JJJ or BJJ are good options but I think your main base should be striking.
  13. Hi Italian guy! I am Laura the one in MA. Enzo is my husband. He is Italian I am not. Ah ok! Indeed Laura is used also outside italy. It is one of my favorite names I have a daughter named Laura.

  19. I did not know that there is a Japanese Go Ju Ryu I thought there was just Okinawan Go Ju Ryu. What are the differences anyway? If you feel that the answer is too off topic can you send pm to me?
  20. Well put Karateka, your post deserve to be treated as an article.
  21. I train 4 hours/week in Tai chi chuan and about 3-4 hours/week in Karate. Sometimes I train at home but not regularly
  22. Welcome to KF. I think that good instructors should have patience and good memory to remember when they were beginners too.
