  3. Welcome to KF
  4. Welcome to the forums. What kind of MA would you like to do?
  5. Hi Ktonix, welcome to KF
  6. For me is Mandarin. Because is the official language of mainland china and taiwain
  7. My deepest sympathy to all that have died to defend our western civilization that allows us many things... and gives us even the right to disagree with our leaders (political or religious). The people who killed Tillman and all the others have not this right and they think they do not need this because they are slaves (inside and outside, outside because they are constrained and inside because they are convinced). As Voltaire said "I don't think you are right but I'm willing to die to allow you to state it"
  8. I think the best way to make up a decision is shopping around look at classes of different MA and take a decision.... anyway if you are not too flexible Capoeira is not the best choice (at least not now maybe if you are young after some years of some martial art practice you can give it a try) if you like an art with some acrobatic movements I can suggest TKD or Northern shaolin kung fu.
  9. Hi Mart Welcome to KF.
  10. Maybe if you fight like that is because you can afford it. I think we are putting everything of what we actually are in a fight. If your nature is aggressive you will fight aggressively if you are calm and relaxed you will fight that way. Now the question is are you proficient in doing things that way because if you are proficient it is better you don't change too much, I mean thinking ahead and not rushing is always good but if you tend to fight aggressively and you succeed ok keep doing that way. If you are not proficient maybe it is worthwhile to make the effort to calm down and think more at what you are doing.
  11. I fully agree with it, martial art training is hard and takes long time to be proficient (expecially if you are an old fart like myself) and the enjoyment in doing it is the main drive. Only if you feel that your body and your mind likes to do what you are doing you can become good at least as good as you can expect.
  12. Welcome to KF
  13. Welcome to KF May I ask how old are you?
  14. looks nice thanks for sharing
  15. Yes, I think that with the help of your sensei you can work towards excellece. Try to ask him what are your worst defect and ask suggestion on how to improuve and last but not least do not compare yourself with others you should compare only to yourself and your defects and limits, others may have other and worse limitations and probably thay train hard (maybe even harder then you) to overcome them. Concerning the issue of favorites we are all humans and sometimes for various reasons we may have some people we like more or less... as a said before look only to yourself and your progress MA is a personal journey even if done with the others.
  16. I think it depends also on how long you trained. I think below let's say 2 years of practice modern martial arts are better for self defence. Because you practice fewer strikes (just the one needed)do more conditioning, do not learn forms. For the long term a traditional martial art (if the teacher and the student are good) can give you also great self defence skills but I think it takes more time.
  17. I started with Kickboxing, and then (since January) I took Tai chi chuan. I'm doing both now but even if my love with martial art started practicing Kickboxing doing a more traditional martial art which is taught as a 'way' and not only a fighting skill opened to me a new dimention. Now I would like to replace kickboxing with another traditional martial art so I think that soon I will start karate (probably in september).
  18. Good luck I have a question. How long have you been practicing martial art before going into an actual full-contact (and I immagine very hard contact competition)?
  19. Yes, good article, I would like to add my 2 eurocents in saying that basics should be practiced constantly and somehow even if it is hard to realize but after a certain time you do the same basic move you suddently feel that you have progrees a lot and made a step to perfection. It is not easy to explain but I think that the learing process is not always gradual there are jumps in the comprehention of a technique but those jumps comes by constant practice. So in conclution the practice must be contant but the results pop-up suddently.
  20. Very good and enlighting article . Thanks for sharing your view with us.
  21. In my Tai chi chuan school the atmosphere is quite relaxed the main instructor sometimes jokes also with us even if we work quite hard. In the kickboxing class the atmosphere is less relaxed and jokes are not allowed during regular class even if before and after the practice we talk and joke with each other.
  22. Welcome back to MAs then and welcome to this forum too
  23. Welcome. I hope you find an art you may enjoy.
