  1. Indeed, Heian and Pinan seem to be interchangeable.
  2. If the first kick wasn't very effective the opponent may be off guard from it at least. You could attack the elbow I think.
  3. We use "The Peaceful Way" Here are the diagrams: Heian Shodan: http://home7.swipnet.se/~w-72482/Heian%20Shodan.gif Heian Nidan: http://home7.swipnet.se/~w-72482/Heian%20Nidan.gif
  4. Checking them out now - thanks
  5. Pretty nice videos on that site..some amazing moves.
  6. Yeah this is great. 1 Hold your arm out horizontally, make a fist, and tighten all the muscles in your arm. Now have someone put one hand on top of your elbow, and the other hand under your wrist. 2 Have your friend try to bend your arm. If he's about as strong as you or stronger, he should succeed. 3 Now, hold your arm out (again, with just a slight bend at the elbow), and relax all the muscles in your arm. Let your wrist dangle comfortably. Use just enough muscle to keep your arm in the air. 4 Look ahead in the direction your arm is pointing. Feel as though your arm extends out from you hundreds of feet. Imagine reaching and touching a tree or building that is a long distance away. 5 Maintain this feeling, and have your friend try to bend your arm again.
  7. I do not practice JKD but I have read it, and recommend it.
  8. Please forgive my ignorance, what is does JFJKD stand for?
  9. Not bad
  10. Go for the challenge! You know how you'll do with the other one, test your technique and just go for it.
  11. Yes I tend to agree
  12. Not off the top of my head, but google is always the best place to go for searching, especially for other websites.
  13. What are they going to be doing there?
  14. Where is the english link from http://www.shorinryu.dk ?
  15. The HUAAYY!! noises are called kiai (pronounced like key eye). They help to focus the power and energy. They also help to develope your self confidence.

  17. They can be a great time if you plan some activities for everyone. It really helps to get to know the other students and the instructor as well.
  18. Well the adult would definitely need to be holding back. That is, unless that kid is phenomenal at fighting.
  19. Yes, we do use blindfolds. Helps you to feel your way through the movements...and to see you accurate you are to the imbusen.
  20. Is that how you approach every situation? Is that something that is part of one of your style's teaching/philosophy?
  21. Very interesting information. Is your Shotokan dojo affiliated with the ISKF?
  22. Yes hearing about that would be interesting. Any photos of those?
  23. The application I do, the first one is a block, the second is an attack which is blocked by the attacker. Finally the third one is a block then you break the attacker's arm.
  24. If we were to do that, we'd grab hold of the attacker's arm and perform a side thrust kick to the ribs or hips. Then let go, and finish him off if it was effective enough a strike.
  25. We're similar. We don't tend to do a low kiba.
