  1. I feel that kata is necessary to learning how to fight. It teaches adaptation, and to think on your feet.
  2. Yes don't get wrapped up in the belt colours. In the end they all fade to black. No pun intended of course.
  3. My dojo is also affiliated with the ISKF.
  4. Memory fades, even muscle memory. You've got to keep practicing.
  5. Not to mention when you've deicded on one stream of applications, you tell the story in your bunkai. Then you tell another story when you do it again, with different applications.
  6. I'm revolted moreso over the selling. If its for novelty then sure, a stupid little certificate saying you're a master in Bull****-Ryu, ha ha its funny. But in the end it only hurts honest people who are trying to learn real martial arts from a fool.
  7. It's like, "You must lose your self to find yourself." Yeah, that's exactly it.
  8. It's machine language. Computers only work with zeroes an ones. The simplistic math is one of the reasons why they work so quickly. One means "on" and zero means "off". The grouping of ones and zeroes have meanings to the computers. There is more to it, that's the best explanation I can give you without getting too complicated.
  9. Modified quote from "Knockaround Guys" about fighting...a friend gave me this one. Along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then, after, you realize that's what you are.
  10. My sensei always carries a bag full of books, perhaps yours does the same?
  11. In our testing we don't know right away. We're informed of the pass/fail status on the next training day. When we gather in huge numbers for gradings it isn't practical to announce those who've passed. But I have heard of thsoe in my dojo who've not passed. However we're very honest with one another so we're informed of the reasons why we didn't pass. That way everyone can help out, as a team.
  12. Here is one, but you'll need to pay for it. http://www.kamikaze.com/securestore/c210279p168909.2.html
  13. 10 in this case is just one-zero. The binary equivalent to the number 2. \
  14. That'd work the leg muscles.
  15. Gichin Funakoshi's "My Life" and for philosphy "Ki and the Way of the Martial Arts" by Kenji Tokisu (get our your dictionary for that one...but it's agreat read).
  16. Here is another: There are 10 kinds of people in life: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  17. This will be interesting; what are you going to ask?
  18. Well korin your hyperbole notwithstanding I feel that the training and quality of your katas shuld dictate how much you know. Then again, focusing on 2-3 katas seems a little narrow. Afterall it would be like a soldier only learning to fire a rifle rather than learning to fight with the bayonete on the end. Or an artist who only learned 2-3 styles of art (e.g. impressionist), where there are many. In my opinion we should learn the katas of our style, and use it as a base of our knowledge. But our ultimate goal should be to master each kata, as Master Funakoshi did.
  19. Thank you. Well, I'm interested in learning more of this style and its history. As you learn it, I'm sure there are many that would appreciate you passing that on here.
  20. Actually I think it is possible to contact them. Their eBay profile may have their contact information. I suggest you go look it up.
  21. Yes, that's right. Most people will read that, and miss the Fs in the word "of" because it isn't as "important" as the other words.
  22. Here is another good one. How many instances of the letter F are there? FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS.
  23. If you are concerned you may take that in with you while you cross-train. Do a few months of Shotokan and then to the MMA. I think you may find you're quite comfortable with your movements.
  24. I agree, I think everyone goes through strategies like that once in a while.
  25. How do you pronounce that?
