In some places in the world, they do need to carry the weapons. Most don't intend to use them, but have it incase they need to use them.

Attitude is very important.

I have home made my machine from parts. I do not usually purchase from the big companies as they tend to be too proprietary.

They show us not only a story behind the movements but also demonstrate commonly used fighting techniques. Practicing them frequently helps to develop muscle memory for them, thus helping you in real life situations. They also help to teach you endurance and proper application of power.

I know their national sport is Khmer boxing. But beyond that, I'm afraid I know nothing.

Is the dojo you're joining affiliated with the ISKF?

Mr. Zippy....LOL -
Thank you greenbelt_girl15 Cmon, regarding your poem please take my opinion in the spririt of constructive critisism. I am myself a learning poet and no professional...definitely not a master writer. So you can feel free to take my words with the appropriate grain of salt. I think it has a lot of potential, but personally I think you are concerned more on punctuation and form rather than message and imagery.

This is one of my more recent poems. Writing is an interest of mine, and I'm rather new to the poetry scene. life watched in greys and offblacks darkblacks and light fuzzyfog wrapped days binoculars thrown wayside the enemy of horizons made fruitful by fans of clarity and crystal rulers lights known as yellow are white to him others see their reality he sees his, to the ends it is a fog of want, of need, a necessity borne from his void a limited perfect palatte he walks, dreams, cries and screams in black and white worlds questing for a tempest at dusk an illusion of stars to favour the serenity of a technicolour scape too tall for the fog

An old lock-blade my father used when he was a police officer. Perfect utility knife, not a sexy killing knife that can't help you out in the real world.

Attitude is the key. If you let yourself get too nervous you could overthink; which you want to avoid. Be calm, breathe, do a few extra warm-up techniques to get your heart pumping. Also pay close attention to the instructions, be aware of how you are asked to approach the area, opponents, bow, etc. and if you make a mistake shrug it off and keep going. Try not to grimmace or huff or stop and shake your head...just keep on truckin

I think there was a similar thread a little while ago on this topic...can't remember it now but I have a bad memory anyway. Personally I've done well with Heian Godan, and Bassai Dai.

Just focus on your toe muscles, keeping them up. If you practice with a bag, you'll learn pretty quickly to keep them up

I agree; in my dojo however we also do a lot of kihon. But not as much sparring as I'd personally like.

I kind of liked my white belt...everything matched. LOL

Well I'm glad you've gotten some closure, and relief! Things sometimes have a way of working themselves out and I'm glad that he was able to chat with the students.

Memorization? Hmm...I hate to memorize, but when I've needed to I read aloud as I wrote the words from the book onto paper. Then re-read the words on the paper as I confirmed the text. Understanding the material seems to be a better method of memorizing.
