I'm not familiar with any specific name for it, but that was a decent description. -

So far what I understand is that it was a chinese style that was developed mostly in Hawaii. -
Traditionalism verses Reality-Based Fighting
cathal replied to NineTailedFox's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Hmm, I think I'm getting tangled up in some jargon that I had not previously seen before. When I say reality I mean that all martial arts tend to train for the real fight situation. Whether or not their techniques are effective or not is a different matter altogether. -
Traditionalism verses Reality-Based Fighting

I personally believe all martial arts are pretty much reality-based. Its how we approach it, and train, that makes the difference. -
I'm sorry I'm not sure about the specifics other than the instructor, Shahram Moosavi. (Maybe spelled wrong.) You can also call Megaton Diaz' school, and ask them, I think they may have more information ont hat.

I've heard of a place for JKD in Scottsdale, though I'm not sure how far it is from Phoenix.

I had a lot of fun with Heian Nidan; the reverse hip is the best part I think. So long as you've got that down pat, the rest falls together.

So this is it a Kung Fu style? -
Ah, well you could download the sound files, and join them together with winamp or some other audio app.

Eligibility is 4-5 years, no guarantees however.

Heian Shodan. I feel it is the easiest, yes. But some can find it challenging when they first start out because of self confidence. If you are happy with yourself, self-confident, and enthusiastic about learning you should find this an easy kata to learn and practice with.

How old are these students saying that the class "sucks"? How experienced are they? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, however if they are truly intent on just defaming the instructor it is moot and your head instructor should be made aware. But you must also allow him/her to get both sides of the story.

I've done it a few times; thankfully I use practice sets with neoprene instead of wood or steel.

What are the laws on using karate in self defense?
cathal replied to Kamisama's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Not in Canada anyway; self defence in our court system has to be proven and then you must show cause as to the extent of the injuries you have placed upon the other person. If it was too much then you can be charged; if it is justified then you should be fine. I've seen the judges bring in some senseis to get testimony as to the extent of the techniques used on the other person, when it was up in the air as to how much was too much. -
Your greatest achievement in the martial arts?
cathal replied to 1kickKO's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Not fighting when I had the opportunity to just walk away. Burns on you for a while but you later realize it was the smart thing to do. -
Bear running down the dojo. For those unitiated, you run down the dojo on your hands and feet. But the legs can't have the knees bent much, so your rear end is high up in the air making it very difficult to watch where you're going and to control your limbs.

In school it always seemed like I was fighting. Then as I got into high school it became clear that the fights weren't just "fights" anymore, but real fights where people were getting hurt. Parents were getting involved, and that is when I realized I had a choice, kind of like being at an intersection. Go one way and I could keep fighting and possibly get someone seriously hurt or killed, or smarten up and stop fighting. Pay attention to what I was being taught in the dojo. So I did the latter, and I'm happier for it.

Welcome back...now give me 10 laps and 50 push-ups on your knuckles! LOL That is literally what sensei said (jokingly) to one of our own returning students; you should have seen the look on this face, it was hilarious!
