Comparing Korean Systems

Go right ahead Cory, I'm for it. -
Angus, couldn't I counter that by either staying away from Samoa, or carrying around a cheeseburger in my pocket? Just kidding, you really DO need to have some type of training to counter a grappler, regardless of how probable the chance is that they will be able to get you to the ground.

My only bad experience came waaayyyy back when I took my first martial arts instruction. I was a senior in high school, and it was the first MA school to open within 30 miles of my home. He advertised it as TKD/Karate/Judo/kitchen sink classes, but I didn't care because I had dreamed of taking classes since I saw my first Chuck Norris/Bruce Lee movies. After a few months of taking classes, and things going well (he made a couple small comments that I had some natural ability that sent my confidence through the roof) I noticed some guys beginning to stop by durring class. Now, if it was just anybody, I wouldn't have cared. But these guys had gone to my (extremely small) high school, and had dropped out as juniors when I was a sophmore. Didn't have huge paying jobs, or wealthy familys, and yet were driving around in brand new sports cars (if you know what I mean). Well, I tried to ignore it, until I heard then talking about their time out together the previous weekend, and deciding where to go that next weekend.

Welcome Elliot, Its never too late to start, and you're never too old to continue. Stick with it, and welcome to the boards.

Hey Brian, I'm not big on **ll, so I hope you don't mind if I just call ya Houund. Welcome to the boards.

Hi Cory, Congrats on your own school, and welcome to the forums.

We may hit Bulgaria in the summer. I'll have to see what the skies look like by that time.

I don't practice that art specifically. However the "short sticks" I've referred to in other posts are the same weapon. About 12" long and the same thickness as a long staff.

 I don't know how others feel, but if I were sparring someone like that, the sound effects would just motivate me to SHUT HIM UP AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!

Easy myosim, he might not have understood what they were supposed to be doing. I personally won't teach under a mature 9 yr old, but a lot do. And sometimes its just them trying to mimic what they THINK they see the others doing.

Tae Kwon-Do a martial art or a sport ?

I think I'm with Spinninggumby on this one. -
Just for kicks, *groan*

LOL That's a good one. I especially like the differences between TKD and sex. -
Good point Jack, but you missed a few. How about: work at home (on the house, in the yard, etc) developing your children (helping with homework, playing, etc.) vehicle maintenance pets I NEED the training to refocus, and keep everything else in life orderly in my mind.

Hi again beaker, I actually changed arts when I went back. I had started before college at a McDojo that advertized almost every martial art there is. A couple years after college, I did a lot of research on the differences between the "major" martial arts, and decided something along the lines of Hapkido fit me best. Kuk Sool Won and Hapkido have a lot of similarities, and I felt right at home, so I've stuck with it.
-
I think the only way I would train in water would be a heated pool, or Miami beach.
-
Hey Beaker, I had to do the same thing. You'll be fine. I'm 35 now and just promoted to 2nd in Kuk Sool Won, and no end in sight. Welcome to the boards.

A local law enforcement officer stopped a car for traveling faster than the posted speed limit. Since he's in a good mood that day he decides to give the poor fellow a break and write him out a warning instead of a ticket. So, he asks the man his name. "Fred," he replies. "Fred what?" the officer asks. "Just Fred," the man responds. When the officer presses him for a last name, the man tells him that he used to have a last name but lost it. The officer thinks he has a nutcase on his hands but plays along with it. "Tell me Fred, how did you lose your last name?" The man replies, "It's a long story so stay with me. I was born Fred Dingaling. I know, funny last name. The kids used to tease me all the time. So I stayed to myself. I studied hard and got good grades. When I got older I realized that I wanted to be a doctor. I went through college, medical school, internship, and residency, finally got my degree so I was Fred Dingaling, MD. After a while I got bored being a doctor so I decided to go back to school. Dentistry was my dream. Got all the way through school, got my degree so I was now Fred Dingaling MD DDS. Got bored doing dentistry so I started fooling around with my assistant. She gave me VD. So, I was Fred Dingaling MD DDS with VD. Well, the ADA found out about the VD so they took away my DDS so I was Fred Dingaling MD with VD. Then the AMA found out about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so they took away my MD leaving me as Fred Dingaling with VD. Then the VD took away my dingaling so now I'm just Fred." The officer walked away in tears laughing so hard and tore up the Warning.

I'm clueless on that one. Sounds interesting, though.
