  1. Excellent question. I've been wondering on a few of these as well. Mine's boring, though. Just rank in Kuk Sool Won and name. Kyo Sa Nim Doug.
  2. Anybody here have an answer for this? I'm genuinely interested in finding out more about other Korean systems.
  3. Good to see you getting up and around again. Can't say I condone going out looking for revenge. Just be careful. They might be expecting you!
  4. It's going to vary widely based on the club and instructor. I've seen school owners allow someone back in at their old level, they just weren't allowed to progress any further until they had all their material back up to snuff. I've also seen them be made to start all the way from day one. Perhapse a sit down with your instructor, and an assessment by him/her would allow you to step back in at least close to your old rank.
  5. Yea, they are cool. Welcome to the forums.
  6. Hey, welcome in Brighthand.
  7. Welcome to the boards. Don't worry about the misinterpretations, you've got pleanty more ahead.
  8. Welcome Ninjagurl. It's never too late, so get back to it as soon as you can. [ This Message was edited by: KSN Doug on 2002-02-11 12:20 ]
  9. Oh, is it time for the Olympics?
  10. Hey Phantasmic, don't sugar coat it, tell us how you really feel. Personally, I think you're being far too kind.
  11. I must be missing something. I haven't seen your views questioned any more than anyone else's.
  12. The principal at my younger kid's school. How the he.....ck someone as f.......reekin' stupid as that could get a possition that has that much influence on kids amazes me. (few, good thing I was able to catch myself)
  13. Nothing formal. The formal training is all pre-arranged. However, some of us upper black belts occationally do a little 3/4 speed sparring with limited contact. Just looking for spontanious application of the techniques we've learned.
  14. I'm more to the metal side, but the 80s and early 90s metal. So, my bands would be guys like Motley Crue, Metallica, Aerosmith, Guns n Roses, Van Halen, etc. And for the romantic side...a metal ballad, what else?
  15. One, not the only, reason for performing a jump kick of any kind is to avoid a low attack at the same time. So, for that purpose, it would obviously loose its usefulness if you leave one leg hanging.
  16. Yoda, knock off those comments. You almost made me spit coffee all over my computer screen. I agree with the safety aspect. I'm about 6', and was able to do the front flip a few years ago. Never worked all the way up to back flip. Use a crash mat if possible. Start off with hand springs. Once you're good at those, you'll feel how if you just angle your jump a little higher and rotate a little faster, you'll be able to remove the hand spring.
  17. I agree, as long as the one holding the bamboo stick show control as well. I haven't had any big wuppin's, but I've had a few attention getters. Sometimes a good smack will teach you to keep your guard up better than being told 100 times.
  18. I can come at this from two directions now. A number of years ago, when I was still a colored belt, there were two very talented teenage guys that were black belts in my school. The school master was very careful to teach them how to teach. And, while they didn't really RUN the class, they did lead the class on a number of occations. None of us adult under belts had a problem with this. Mainly because we could see the Master had respect for these boys, and the boys showed us respect as well. The simple fact was, while I might have more LIFE experience, we weren't there to learn about life. They knew more of the MAs, and that's what I wanted to learn. I am now about 10 years down the road, and a 2nd degree. In the school I train in now, there is a teenage girl black belt that the school owner sometimes depends on to lead class. I try my best to encourage her, and show all the under belt students that she has my confidence and respect. How well do you feel your school owner shows the students that you have his confidence? Have you tried talking to him about your dilema?
  19. I agree. The same issue could be brought up in many work environments. However, we can't just run around testing everyone because there is a chance they might open a cut. It should be up to the school owner to have himself, and any other instructors that might render first aid, trained to protect themselves from any blood born pathogens. And then a policy of no open woulds allowed to continue training would protect the other students. That's my take anyway.
  20. You could say the same for Kuk Sool Won. We're only about that old as well. And yet the Grandmaster likes to refer to it as "Traditional Korean Martial Arts". More because it is based on the traditional arts, than IT is a traditional art. He's still modifying and improving the curriculum today as well.
  21. To be honest, I don't care. I've found what works for me, even if there's only two of us doing it.
  22. Wheeeeew! Gladly Grandmaster. Now, I've seen in some of the other threads that some TKDs do teach at least a limited amount of grappling. For those that do, how much focus is there, at what point did you learn them, and what are a couple examples? :???:
  23. My reply would kind of depend on what you're asking if I'm seeking approval for. At work, for how I perform my assigned responsibilities...then yes. At work, for how I run my life, that I practice martial arts....then no.
  24. So be it.......Jedi.
  25. Excuse me. Do you have a point to make with two and a half pages worth of la las?
