  1. Personally, I need a lot more information before making a "final" judgement. My first impression from what I've read in other papers is that it's too close to TKD_Ms description for me to approve of it. But I'm still gathering facts. I would prefer to see our "prospering technology" develop better prosthetic devices, than to try and "grow" some in a dish.
  2. I'm glad you said that. For all the talk we all do about avoiding a fight, I haven't heard anyone say what I thought the obvious. He had no one behind him. He could have easily backed away from the whole situation, keeping them in front of him. But you know, they did call him a name, gee I guess that justifies it. On the other hand, if he had been surrounded, and there was no other way out, he did exibit the right strategy for muliple attackers. But this looked more like multiple insulters followed by multiple defenders.
  3. You might want to get a support for your knee if you're going to be that active.
  4. Jiggy, we don't have any "formal" exercises. We just do a whole lot of techniques, so there is a lot of touching already. Personally, I try not to look at the pressure point I'm about strike or press, just feel the contour of the muscle to find it. The same goes for joint locks, etc. I don't remeber which art you're in. If it's all striking, then developing touch won't help much.
  5. As I've stated in other threads, you only need to be 1st degree in Kuk Sool Won to open your own "official" school. However, it is a very strictly regulated organization where you have to agree to teach the exact same way you were taught (in the same order etc.). We are always advised by the Grandmaster to open a club first, like in a YMCA or other facility that will keep costs low. Then, once you have around 30 students, you can move to your own location and already have the head count to pay the bills. That's all I would need in the long run anyway. I wouldn't be looking to make money off it, just have it pay for itself.
  6. Due to all the pressure points, and joint manipulations, we do the same as YODA. Sence of touch is crucial for our advanced techniques.
  7.   Once in a while, I've gotta give you one.
  8. Why did he/she stop there? Why not demote the one who promoted them?
  9. I'm not sure any more. I would have said Hapkido, but KSW has most of what Hapkido has plus aspects of TKD/TSD. I currently drive an hour each way on Fridays just to continue in this art. In response to YODA, ever blk belt in KSW means another level of learning. New techniques to learn, new weapons etc. So I do focus on achieving each belt rank for that reason, not to leave. If I HAD to, I might try Kenpo. I prefer a close in, hand striking style.
  10. Yeah, I saw a few of them. The seperate ones, and then the ranking. They didn't really give the scoring used to rank them. I'm with shotochem. Yes, the ability to take those blows was impressive. However, you would have to suck pretty bad to get hit, while standing, from four directions in the neck at the same time...in the real world. I was more impressed with the akido portion.
  11. Mmmm chocolate muffin.......err I mean yeah punching. I'll have to clarify as well. If you mean a left jab (left foot in front) then speed is what you want. However, you should work on the balance needed to perform the same technique no matter which foot is in front. Rather than full weight lifting, you might try weighted wrist bands. Then just punch, punch, punch.
  12. For the most part I feel the same way. But I'm trying to develop the other side as well.
  13. Pacificshore, I wasn't quite complete in my statement. I agree with you that everyone should train in shoes, on uneven ground, on asphalt, etc. so you're prepared for out on the street. I only mean inside the dojang we don't allow shoes, except in special cases.
  14. Welcome from cold and cloudy Connecticut XpOiSoN FrEeX.
  15. For the most part I agree. My only motivation for advancment is that I must attain the next level before I can be taught another level of weapons, techniques, etc.
  16. Another aspect, from my art's point of view, is that we also have numerous pressure point attacks where we use our toes. Can't manage that even with the thin workout shoes. We do allow the thin workout shoes, esspecially if the person is physically in need of them. However, as I think Kickchick said, they must where them ONLY inside. Other shoes are worn to the Dojang and then they change. We do a lot of falling for techniques, and it would be gross if we had to practice falling where outside shoes were always worn.
  17. Lime in the bottle is actually a trendy thing. Limes were put in the can (when it was in cans) to mask the taste of the cheap metal can.
  18. Not Hapkido. However, if you can manage with something close, there are a few Kuk Sool Won Schools in and around Buffalo. You can look at the links page to find the KSW home page.
  19. Ooooooo Baby! Glad I'm part of a team. I thought I did better than that.
  20. That's what hapens when government tries to do everything for you.
  21. I'd have to agree with Angus about the nose. But be DAMN careful with the nose too. If you strike too hard at an upward angle, you can drive thebone and cartilage up into the brain! You don't want to hurt anyone that bad. I also have to agree with YODA. It was the wrong thing to do, but I would probably have defended my lady's honor as well.
  22. Damn, damn, damn I would have had 10 right. But I got the Becks switched with the brow and the Miller switched with the Mexicali
  23. Hey ZR440, try Amstel light. It only has 90 cal., and has as much flavor, if not more, than most domestic beers. Mico brews not included. It's done wonders for me. I can't stand the thought of going too long without my brewskis. At least I can justify this as having less cal than a coke.
  24. Registering as a black belt is down at the state level. So, check your own state's laws. I think you've shown fantastic control for your situation. Far too many guys your age feel compelled to show superiority over an agressor like that (I know I was tempted many times). Be careful when listening to circulated stories as well. I'm sure you know how the high school gossip chain goes. It could have changed from him saying he wasn't hurt too bad to he wants a rematch within two people.
