MAN, did you over generalize!!!!!!!!!! Kuk Sool Won (Traditional Korean Martial Arts)teaches sword. First basic cutting techniques, then forms, then pre-arranged sparring. The first form is with the basic grip, the one I've learned up to for 3rd degree is with a reverse grip. I think one of the manuals or videos they sell has sword in it. Check out the KSW home page in the links section. However, it won't be as good as personal instruction.

Ah, so now I'm a Fire Horse and a scorpio.
-
How about a crate of radioactive seeds to make us stronger?....no A cross ocean phone cable to signal for help?...no A space probe so we can contact the scientists?...no A boat full of naked people?...no Ah, how about: A crate of camping equipment that was being shipped over seas, that floating box of tools some guys lost while fishing, and a Sam Adams beer truck that got swept away in a flood. Aw come on, you didn't expect us to drink water from a coconut cup the whole time did you? And ZR440, that's just good motivation to get that raft built while I'm sippin' a beer in the hammok.

Looks like I'm a horse. Also a scorpio.

Alrighty then. Since it's just a month, I'd have to go with ZR440. Since we both practice Kuk Sool Won (and it's hard enough to find in the northeast, let alone an island) we could both train hard for the month. If it had been years, my choice would have to be different. Oh yeah, and no matter who wins...The Mag Six Rule!!!!!!!! [ This Message was edited by: KSN Doug on 2002-07-23 13:00 ]

In answer to Patrick's question, no I did not form any alliances. I'm not a fan of that type of play. It's sometimes fun to watch, but I wouldn't participate in it. I need clarification on KickChick's. Do you mean from all the original contestants, or just the remaining "mix" of 5? How long on the desert island?

Feww, that was close.

Can't say I have. Mainly 10" Hibbens for me.

You forgot sipping tea, and eating fish and chips. Seriously, I don't know of anyone that doesn't respect England for all of its accomplishments. My personal favorite is how you held off the nazis air armada in WWII.

taekwon-do dancing.
SBN Doug replied to blood talon's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Never mind. Here it is. "Sport TKD (WTF) stresses that the purpose of performing a technique properly is so you may score more points than your opponent in competition. To win. Therefore, it is possible to achieve this purpose during sparring. Sport TKD gives value to the factors of power, accuracy, and strategy, and gives higher value to the use of more difficult techniques. It stresses that to execute a proper technique, you must have a resisting opponent. Because of the rules of sport sparring, it is possible to predict the actions of your opponent and to technically and psychologically manipulate and dominate your opponent. Traditional TKD (ITF) stresses that the purpose of performing a technique properly is so it may be used to strike with enough force to disable or possibly kill an opponent ... the philosophy of "one strike, one kill." This is why traditionalists say they cannot use their techniques in contact competition, because they cannot achieve this purpose during sparring. Instead, breaking is used to test the "lethality" of their techniques. I think all of us TKD stylists are getting pretty tired of being told that we cannot defend ourselves. I would like someone to come up to me and tell me that one face to face!!" -

The stances are very important, no matter what the art. Check out Kickchicks breakdown of which TKDs are which in the threads questions its effectivness. -
I haven't heard that one. You don't really cause blood clots with pressure points. You're hitting nerves. Blood becomes clotted from too much "junk" in your blood. However, a clot can travel though your system for some time before lodging itself where it does harm.

:lol:Some say it's better to be lucky that good. (If there were such a thing, of course) Our Master taught us that we COULD use the jaw or ear as an anchor point (ear being a little dangerous). Except that the "correct" way for Korean style archery is accross the chest. He basically said "Whatever works".

Good shot! Do you have a site on your bow, or is that with you eye alone?

Knuth, I'm niether supporting or condemning your choice. I'm simply stating the fact that everyone better know the laws where they live before they make that decision. Not that it really makes a difference, but your example is of home protection and an intruder, not carrying a weapon around the streets with you. Aaaaand, I've only been in CT for 4 yrs. Before that I lived in Texas for over 20, where one of my favorite mottos was: "Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be prosecuted." [ This Message was edited by: KSN Doug on 2002-06-18 08:44 ]

Excellent. But I'm getting pissed at these damn Romans. I'm up to the fall of the Roman empire in the Atilla campaign, and I can't get passed the boogers!

We were always taught to answer "Sir" or "Ma'am". Not just to the instructors, but that's where it started.

searcher, Glove???? We're not allowed to use any gloves. Why do you think my thumb hurts? Of course, if I had been training all this time since I started this thread, it probably wouldn't hurt by now. We can only use the arm and chest guards, no gloves.

Bon, Pehapse. But over here, depending on which state you're in, you may get judged by the 7 (or 12) and then STILL get carried by 6. I'd rather carry items that a jury can't think "Oh he was just looking for trouble carrying that".

Who Feels Could Defend Against a Knife Attack?
SBN Doug replied to Iron Arahat's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I definately agree with taezee. We train in a number of knife defenses, but I would still not go up against an attacker un-armed unless there was no time to pick something up. -
