  1. best martial arts movie? i've never seen it get any better than once upon a time in china.
  2. yeah, that's more or less what i was getting at. though, before we say hitler is the most evil person ever, i'm not so sure he killed more people than stalin.
  3. every now and then, during one of the afternoon classes (the layed back classes), i always get the urge to come in all black with a trench coat and sunglasses, refer to myself as neo (and not respond to anything else, except maybe the one), and refuse to do any techniques, saying they are all a waist of my time as it's alla computer simulation. though i have done one thing, actually several times, that nearly gets me demoted everytime. after every test we have an oral exam where the master asks you some questions about your interpretation of the creed and what you've been doing and your goals, etc. well, i've found that, without even realising it, i have a tendancy to, well, maybe smart off a bit. for the last one, we were asked how we have trust and brother hood among friends, and i turned to my friend who was standing next to me and said "i lend them money, even when they don't pay it back" and i said the last part in a really annoyed tone and i look and one of the instructors had an appalled look on his face. in the test before that it had gone so far so that my instructor sighed, put his head in his hands and said "no ben, no". i don't even think of it as smarting off until i leave the building
  4. how do so many piano players exist!?! i swear, the piano is the single most impossible instrument to play. ever. hands down. i can't for the life of me play it. good thing i never have to, except for mallets, but i'm thinking that's slightly less difficult.
  5. "I am happy they are dead these 2 guys were prob. the most evil and sick men the world has seen. IMO Hitler had nothing on them." ...either you need to do more research or i do...
  6. we have a science teacher at my school who's a vietnam veteran. sometimes certain sounds will trigger memories and he'll freak out. he told us to get something out of our bags, so i put my bag on the desk, but it knocked my book on the floor making a loud "bang" sound. he screamed "JONNY NO!" and dove for the floor. we were all dead quite for the rest of the class period.
  7. yeah, you'd think that. i personally thought the sound was annoying, but i guess that's just me.
  8. such a great movie... except i've never gotten the energy to watch it more than once
  9. "One mans "McDojo" is anothers idea dojo." ah, good point "Sounds like a little bit of an insult to McDonald's to me... " i don't think they mind to much. sides, it's kinda like what andrew green said. when i'm strapped for cash, and there's no food in the house, i see nothing wrong with stopping in at a mcdonalds... wait, where was i going with that? ah blast it. i don't think i had a point, i think i'm just hungry. anyway, there's a thread around here somewhere that goes in depth to this... i'll try to find it
  10. well, i see your point, but now i think you're generalizing other things and, in a sense, putting boundaries on boundaries. not all boundaries lead to destruction, not all common wealth folk are evil, not all policemen will beat you for promoting peace. one must respect and appreciate that. and while i agree with you in that said matters happen far to often and the legalization of cigarettes vs. marijuana is a little rediculous, those are topics for another thread. infact, i think one exists for each of them, if i'm not mistaken. that said, hey guy-who-started-this-thread, i think it's great that you respect your wife and her wishes enough to go through this much trouble. i'm sure she's grateful. but a lot of the other posters here seem to have a point. perhaps it would be easier to see a no harm/no foul stand point rather than find a mens only place...?
  11. i guess the spring steel swords are what i was reffering to. i just can't imagine why they'd be floppy. even if they are only for show.
  12. 3 people at a time? don't you think you're asking for a little much? quite frankly, any style will do that for you if you train hard enough at it, right? anywho, i'll use this as a plug and suggest hwarang do. we have all of those. but there are really several styles that meet all of that criteria, if i'm reading it right. but yeah, hwarang do has all of that.
  13. oh yeah! i really like her too! but i'm not very good as her. but she has some really neat looking stuff and sometimes i win but not very often
  14. 720 a relatively difficult trick the middle of nowhere must breed god like skaters
  15. well, but japanese swords didn't bend from the same time period. and when i'm talking floppy, i mean, like, with the broad sword it flops side to side, not up and down, so there really wouldn't be any additional force to it, would there?
  16. nah, i think i got it, but thanks. it's just frusterating because while my friends are running around doing fun stuff i'm in my basement learning trigonometry or reading the rise and fall of the third reich, which is very long and dull and the author keeps going on weird tangents. hey, bored person, would you like to do my trig homework or write my book report for me?
  17. well, i liked the first two once upon a time in china movies, those are the only ones i've seen. and i like all of bruce lees movies, but i think game of death, even though it's very very cheesy, is my favorite. kiss of the dragon was a pretty dumb movie, but jet li does some cool stuff in it. and i haven't seen that many jackie chan movies, but i think my favorite is legend of the drunken master. that fight in the court yard against all those guys and his mom gets him really drunk? that's still in my top 3 favorite fight scenes ever to this day
  18. i think law is my favorite, or lei wu long, or hwaorang, or eddy. and some times brian... see, this is why my friends get mad at me, i take way to long at the character select screen
  19. so yeah, i've looked on the forum and couldn't find the answer, so i looked elsewhere on line and couldn't find it, and i looked through all my books, and the library's closed, and there really aren't any chinese martial art places within a half hour from me, so i figured i'd bite my tounge and as the question in fear of it being really obvious and stupid: i was watching a kung fu movie marathon movie with my friends, and i asked myself "self, why are all the weapons so floppy?" at first i thought the movies just had poor props, but then i realised no, in my experience the weapons really are floppy, aren't they? or am i just totally dumb? please excuse my ignorance, i was just really really curiouse. so, to recap, why are chinese weapons, like broadswords and staffs and straightswords and such... floppy? anyone know? or does everyone know but me?
  20. ...or you could be the bigger person and follow shorin ryuus advice... you know, whatever.
  21. hey, if an inamnimate object counts, i don't see why yourself dosen't
  22. hmmm... you know, i never have either, you might have a point there...
  23. nah, i'm still a dork. if not for the reason that i try to imitate cool moves from videogames and anime, than because of many many other reasons one of these days i'll get a life, but i'm in no rush. still, glad to hear your move imitating is working out for you, that's always cool.
  24. i hear that too. i was so good at algebra they had me take it again to see if i did so well it because of a fluke. at least that's what i keep telling myself
