The Natural Laws Of Martial Art Self Defense...
Icetuete replied to Kai_Hwarang's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i dont see anything to argue about in these rules, but "using the force that is necessary..." are difficult to apply. what is necessary to break someones arm? when threatened, the last thing I would think about is how not to hurt my opponent. e.g. in a dark alley, me alone and a guy. what is he up to? was that a knife in his hand? are there other dudes around? man - i am scared those rules look good in this forum and it'd be lovely if everybody would stick to them, but in that situation i would be glad if i could clam down enough to make use of my skills. i havent been in any fights outside the dojang and i dont want to change that. but i'd rather break his arm/hand/whatever so i can get away unharmed. and what should he do? go to the police and say "this son of a ***** broke my nose when i tried to get his money". just my opinion though. -
joining a TKD class is always a good idea

excellent thanks, i will keep it on then! -
taking martial arts classes is always a good idea if its not too expensive, you get along well with the instructor and class mates... then go for it as to the street fighter... check your post in the combative arts forum!

i'm gonna be boring and say: it depends after a certain time of training ur chances will become better and better BUT... what if he has a gun/knife/baseball bat? what if he is not alone? what if you become afraid? will you be able to use what you learned? i'd recommend to go check the karate class u wanna go to and have fun training first... being able to defend yourself takes time. if you just wanted to hear whether karate provides a descent self defense capability: yes, i think so good luck!!

does it make me punch stronger? i do exactly the same punching excersises we do in the dojang, except holding the weights in hands. -
so this is not the full contact tournament fighting style anymore, but an art of self defense? or does it combine both? and what about ashihara? anyone heard about it?
-
hey everybody! could anyone please tell me about this style? i know kyokushin, the full contact fighting system, but never heard of this Goshin Jitsu (sub-?) system before. could it be that it is basically the same as Ashihara Ryu Karate? thanks in advance! p.s.: are there similarities between these styles and shotokan karate?

Kyokushin tournament on Eurosport!

why didnt you say post this earlier so i could have watched it, too -
does this make sense or does it just develope bad habits and/or injuries my joints?

i agree with most of what you said @ szorn an intensive fight training does not need any of these. but that does not mean that an art is not as good as another art because u wear a traditional uniform etc. i think arts that imply many of the things u meantioned still produce good fighters.
-
with "fighting art" i meant an art, that serves all purposes that may be needed when it comes to whatever fight. real life fights, not tournaments. thats why i think the complete fightings systems (maybe "art" was misleading) are best to fit that purpose.
-
what would you regard as the top five fighting arts? and what should a good fighting art have, regarding teaching methods, techniques etc.
-
yeah, the world is full of interesting styles. you could well benefit from your boxing skills in orther arts. as far as i'm concerned, Krav Maga and Savate blows are almosts identical to western boxing. but if boxing is what you like and you found a good club then stick with it.
-
well, then go and give it a try sword arts are indeed very interesting and look like fun to me. kendo equipment is very expensive though.

i think it was a good idea to ask in this forum what we make of his wishes. off course, training environment plays an important part in his (and our all) martial arts career, but what sense would it make if he finds a nice trainer, a comfortable dojo and nice people that teach a style that he does not feel compfortable with? as far as i remember, Munkyboy wanted to be a descent fighter and to become fitter, did i get this right? and he did not ask us whether we knew in which of the dojos in his area are the friendliest people.
