oh - ok then; that solves all my problems perhaps u could tell me a little more about how mantis fighters fight and for what reasons these trapping/catching techniques are. is this the primariy focus of mantis is this meant to disable your opponents actions? is this worth using one of your arms? sounds like your very vulnerable in that situation

thanks alot, that is some good advice, but what are dumbbells and barbells? english aint my first language

recently i chatted with a friend who practices Mantis Kung Fu (i am not sure which exactly it was...) and he showed me some of the stuff they do and we talked about styles and such... i was kind of surprised... i am not sure how some of these techniques should serve self defense. mantis kung fu principal basically is a very low stance, followed by a technique and then return into the stance again. i mean... how are you supposed to move in such a low stance? and then there are the hands... here is a picture of a kung fu master: http://www.kung-fu-muenster.net/presse/sigung.jpg so where is this guys guard? this technique is one of the "catch" techniques. and yeah, what for? sry, but i got a very weird impression of the mantis styles please help me out anybody... how do mantis practitioners fight? did i get something wrong?

ah, i see - very interesting. thanks drunken monkey!!! -
in that case: yes, it is realistic most schools have almost equal numbers of each sex in their class. in case you should be the only woman in your class, i bet you are even more good luck.

Philipino Kickboxing
Icetuete replied to Icetuete's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
that Filipino Kickboxing probably basically is Filipino Boxing with some kicking techniques was quite obvious i rather thought someone might be able to compare it to other kickboxing styles regarding conditioning, rules etc. -
could anyone please tell me what this 'Body-Concept Ancle-Tube' is exactly, how it works, how you use it and what effect you got from it?? http://www.sportland.de/images/jpg/08-03030.jpg

need safety - what art?
Icetuete replied to MunkyBoy's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
although kickboxing certainly is a good conditioning i have certain doubts whether it is a good self defense art... it somewhat covers stand up, but i would suggest the more complete systems. edit: a good kickboxing selfdefense might be chinese Sanda, since it has ground work and throws, but maybe i mix things up here, not sure -
need safety - what art?
Icetuete replied to MunkyBoy's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
i agree: Krav Maga, San Soo, Arnis and Hapkido are well suited for what you are looking for MunkyBoy. sadly none of them seems to be available in your area. i think from what i've heard Shaolin Kempo is very good, too. i know too few about the ninjutsu, tkd and the kung fu styles that are taught in your area to judge whether they might be good or not. so, maybe someone else has good advice? -
do whatever makes u happy. if you feel ur style has a lack of something and wish to compensate with another then feel free to do so. no sensei will be insulted if you visit another dojo. my instructor is happy when students go get different impressions (at least he says he was ) every system has something to offer, so why not go check one out?

@ sano yes, i think i am lucky that you dont know where i live. btw, i said dont insult each other in MY threads, do what you want in others @ Kensai i wasnt insulting Drunken Monkey (or brits) but tried to be ironical - my bad i guess. yes i agree and didnt say something else, not even ironically. yeah, me too if we could all get back on topic now... i dont want this thread to be closed
-
i am sorry, that was very rude from me just dont insult each other in my thread, ok?
-
yeah right - all these british guys think they are like james bond, saving the world twice a week and get to **** the prettiest woman... i think that is exactly what Drunken Monkey wanted to make clear by stating that WC and JKD are not the same.

Wing Chun - Pros and Cons
Icetuete replied to cymry's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
i think since wing chun is developed for fights in narrow areas, it delivers a good and pracitcal self defense. sometimes there simply is no room for a roundhouse kick or something. and since wing chun covers different fighting ranges (at least to a certain extent) it is a well rounded system. although no system can prepare you for the street perse and still, anything might happen -
nobody ever used one of these...???

hey all! what improvements on your personal health did training in the arts give to you? i mean physical as well as mental. and please tell us ur art as well. i'm just curious to me, my training gave me some kind of better overall feeling. and apart from that i became much more flexible and my cardio is better as well.

Top 10 Self Defense Martial Arts
Icetuete replied to aznkarateboi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i think these (no order) are well for self defense: 1. SanSoo 2. Krav Maga 3. Wing Chun 4. Shaolin Kempo 5. JiuJitsu 6. Arnis 7. Hapkido 8. Shootfighting 9. Budo Taijitsu 10. Kyuk Too Ki ...and many more of course but these would be the arts of my choice. just my opinion though -
Wing Tsun
Icetuete replied to Icetuete's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
what ranges of fighting does wing tsun cover? does it have "dirty techniques" like groin kicks? does it use pressure points?
