  1. i am interested in asian weapon arts but probably wont have the chance to practice one at the moment... my question is why do u guys personally practice with weapons? goal is to find out what i could get outa it opinions and personal expiriences are appreciated. thanks in advance!
  2. this might be helpful: http://mchenry.homeip.net/TangSooDo/forms/index.htm
  3. as to the question why policemen train in striking art (i dont know whether it is true or not though) in the training every police officer runs through (at least here in germany), they learn certain techniques to disarm opponents, render them unable to move or in a position to use hand-cuffs on them. dont know inhowfar these techniques are related to a certain martial art or system but since they know these "grappling" techniques it is rather obvious that they do an art that makes a good addition, like striking arts. but since i aint got any law enforcement expirience i can't really judge. just my thoughts.
  4. i didnt see that one coming
  5. then go check it out when they dont i wouldnt mind either. shaolin kung fu, karate and jkd sound good to me, so if u dont like the MT club u have plenty of dojos left. karate and shaolin focus more on handwork though.
  6. thats the point - the mechanic will look a little puzzled as well i suppose
  7. it wouldnt have been that bad if he hadnt been so drunk the night before, and if that stupid girl in the store wouldnt have done everything wrong. btw i consider throwing my clothes out of the window of a train as very stupid. poor guy though.
  8. what r ways to find dojos in ur area? i hardly found any dojo around with the internet. none of my friends practices an art, i do not live in a big city and i probably am not the only one with this problem. pls post ur story how u found the dojo ur r know and the first dojo where u attended training. it might be helpful for others that r still looking. we might come up with some kinda search strategy, where to begin (except google) etc. i myself, luckily enough, found mine on the web though.
  9. this might be interesting for u... http://koreantaekwondo.tripod.com/
  10. whats wrong about the muay thai school? thought u were interested in MT.
  11. if u shaved urself once, can never stop with it... at least thats what my girlfriend says and she probably knows better than me. she's not shaving her chest though
  12. the first thing that comes to my mind is that hapkido is not considered to improve ur overall fitness and doesnt help get into/stay in shape, while tkd does. another difference is that there are many more prejudices around regarding tkd, than hapkido
  13. yeah, good point... but if i'd switch to the other dojo, i probably show that i wanna learn their way. besides, i of course would buy a new dobok if the instructors wishes me to do so or if he'd be insulted by me wearing the dobok and the signs of another dojang. apart from the dobok, i anyway respect the instructors, no matter what i am wearing, outside the dojo for instance.
  14. most common statement about TKD is that its 100% kicking to the head and above the head, which is completely useless. i consider this as wrong
  15. if I'd switch to another dojang i'd probably want to still wear my old dobok, because i still will respect my instructors who taught so much to me.
  16. i dont think there is something wrong about it... like pacificshore pointed out, u know it works. and it prepares u to get a blow or two. but its probably not fun to get ur "butt kicked night after night", though. it'll make u stronger
  17. but how much should a dobok cost?
  18. yap so how old r u NightShade? this might help.
  19. i dont think being pushed is sufficent to knock someone unconcious... ur knife/gun point was good though. and as for: in texas maybe, but not in germany
  20. very interesting, thanks Sens!!
  21. i like the article. i am not done reading yet, but i bookmarked it! thanks.
  22. i agree, but i think better them then me/girlfriend/family. if i end up having to pay a dr.bill i'd still be glad that i am safe and not injured!
  23. Welcome to KF!!
