Lau Gar Kung fu
Rich_2k3 replied to Rich_2k3's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
It is a popular style in the UK but its definetly not THE most popular style (Judo, TKD and Karate are exreamly popular) it is however the most popular Kung fu style practised in Britain. -
what easier to learn from books- striking or grappling?
Rich_2k3 replied to TJS's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
It would be hard to learn grappling on ur own cuz u'll need someone 2 practice with or ur'll never get anywhere, so I say striking. -
BOB SAPP VS. MIKE TYSON!
Rich_2k3 replied to wrestlingkaratechamp's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
I hate Tyson, hes a brawler, rapest and overall d**k head, get Lenox Lewis (Height, weight, reach and of course skill advantage) in there take em both on...well maybe one at a time . Yeah except when u fought lenox lewis and got totally slaughtered in 3 rounds after saying u were gonna crush him, thus losing ur world title 4eva. -
Do u think by only studying striking styles or by only studying throwing/grappling styles u are seriously flawed as a fighter if u were attacked. I mean what if someone charges u and tries to wrestle with u, if u only know striking techniques then u might struggle a bit, or it could be the other way round. Now theres nothing wrong with studying just one style that only emcompeses one of those fighting types, but do u think that overall u would be better prepared for street fights if u studied one of each or maybe a style that covers both types of fighting in good detail?
-
I have both, but I chose the tie cuz its better than just having elastic and its more traditional .

There a disgrace to martial arts and show a total lack of respect for a fantastic tradition and way of fighting passed down for hundreds of years, what do u think the Samurai, the Ninja or the Shaolin monks would think if they saw this kind of thing, they've helped develop the fantastic arts of fighting and devoted their lives to perfected them... for what? so u can go down 2 ur local Mcdojo and pick up a black belt with fries, ITS A CRAZY WORLD!!!

is it posibel to fail a grading
Rich_2k3 replied to hell burner's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I suppose the reason most ppl pass is becuase ur sensei knows ur ready and gives u the grading, and when ur ready u'll pass, its as simple as that...well on most occassions unless theres abit of "bad instructer syndrome"... -
Lau Gar Kung fu
Rich_2k3 replied to Rich_2k3's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I see, well I've been practicing karate for a bit over a year now and I'll still continue to do so becuase I enjoy it and its an excellant MA, I'll have a look at Lau Gar see what its like and if I like it then I'll practice both, if I dont then I might give ju jitsu a go. I dont really mind if its too competition based becuase i've got my Karate for self defence. What is it about Lau Gar that u found unhelpful 4 self defence? and is it good for competition/tournements? also what kind of stuff did u do, was their weapons involved etc. Soz 4 all the questions but I'd like to know abit about it cuz I might take it up. -
Its simply mind over matter, theres nothing spiritual about it. Its strong willpower and mental disipline.

Monkey Kung fu or Ta Sheng as it is called in China is a style that focus on rolling, twirling and sometimes playful movements encompassing hundreds of deceiving strikes and techniques. It’s constantly changing footwork and ascending and descending stances tend to lull it’s opponent into a state of momentary confusion and bewilderment, allowing the monkey an opportunity to unexpectedly leap into an attack with haunting accuracy. Has any one heard of this style? If u ever watch it being practiced it looks almost laughable but its apparently very efficient. I think it was created by the same guy who created the Praying mantis style. Check the link out: http://www.martialinfo.com/Styles/monkey.htm

I suppose so, but I am totally against steroid usage, I know not all BB are on steroids, most probably aren't but I think there is a visible difference between "real" BB and "fake" ones as I call them cuz they basically cheat with steroids. You would think that some body builders with there gigantic mucsles would be competeing in WSM even though there training may be different... muscle's muscle isnt it?
-
But are streoids really the best thing, firstly there must be some side affects or they wouldnt be in such disrepute. Secondly if u see proffessional bodybuilders on the steroids they bairly look human, in fact they look like plastic. If u watch the worlds strongest man there not bulging with rubber muscle, they have well built, strong, toned bodies, some arnt even that big, thats real strength. Also take the boxer Lenox Lewis, thats how u should look if u work out properly (no drugs). Now I now that in sport drugs are illeagle but that doesnt mean that some of these steroid takn' rino's could defeat really sportsmen.

Lau Gar Kung fu
Rich_2k3 replied to Rich_2k3's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Lau Gar in the UK is quite a popular style, i'm not an expert on kung fu but I think that Hung Gar is the old way of saying it, Lau Gar contains all five shaolin animal styles (Dragon, Tiger, Leopard, Crane, Snake), when I search for Hung Gar on the net it seems to not really exist, but when I search for Lau Gar theres loads, its even got its own governing body in the UK. This is confusing....any help. -
This is an extract from the British Lau Gar Kung fu association: DRAGON: The dragon style represents the cultivation of the spirit. Pronounced back arches, side horse stances and twisting body postures feature strongly in the style. Flexibility and graceful movements are stressed. TIGER: The Tiger does not need to defend, it is the ultimate predator. It has no evasion techniques, no blocking or defence. In any confrontation it leaps into attack going for the quick and direct resolution of the conflict. The Tiger uses any simple and direct approach. It's techniques and methods are easily understood with not a lot of strategic thinking or planning; and absolutely no preparation. The Tiger is purely reactive. Either the world is OK or the Tiger will do something immediate and sudden. Well there u go, anyway I cant give an opinion at the moment because I dont practice Kung fu, but I will be very soon (Wednesday actually) untill then I couldnt say. p.s I think the tiger sounds pretty cool though...

I like that, a membrable quote .

2night on one of the discovery channels (I think about 8 o'clock might be different depending where ur from) theres a program called Secrets of the Samurai watch it.
-
Do u think that people who have toes that can brake through wood blocks will have arthritus when there older or does it do u good.
-
I can do about 40 if I really push my self. I think its more about determination than anything, u need the willpower to keep going, on a good day u might do loads on another u might not feel like it, it all depends on ur determination to keep pumping those muscles !

At what age is it best?
Rich_2k3 replied to yireses's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
12-13 best, when there young they dont take it seriously and as they grade up their knowledge of the art will be far, far less than if they were older, lots of the fundmental basics arent learnt correctly and there progress is negative, wait till there mature, when u think there ready then its time. p.s good point on the stretching, keep them supple and flexible, it'll be a huge advantage when they begin.
