  1. what happened to the sprawl, works very well ? a deep low front stance works well for me and a neck crank. But then again im also 240lbs and most guys are smaller.
  2. I think if you put a lot into it you will get back also if you have a partner to train with and cant go to a dojo why not.
  3. I was wondering that when you spar have you ever timed your attack and struck when the other guy is breathing in. My sensei told me to watch for that because it is a good time to attack. Does anyone know why?
  4. Oh no i know how efective bjj is, i have done it for a bit. a skilled grappler might take me down on the streets but then i do study how to defend against them. I agree about being trained well in karate that it will not go to the ground if it ends quick...but it erks me how people think karate is done ( not point sparring ).
  5. yea i saw the sherdog fights we dont do point sparring and i am certain my instructor will handle himself very well hes been in fights and none of them were on the ground and they all lasted seconds
  6. I wonder why people compare karate to other arts and they show pics of two people sparring and the karate guy is in a low deep stance with his hands chambered? They think this is how we fight? I sure dont.
  7. I also have an opinion that a purly external art is deprived from its internal and spiritual aspects. Also I feel lets say if you practice zen it is not a religion in the sense of the word, which is a concept of the west in which followers have to follow dogmas and worship god.
  8. karate also translates as china hand as stated by funakoshi
  9. You seem to know a lot about this topic , I have not yet reaserched furhter into these spiritual traditions but can you tell me the basics of taoism compared to zen?
  10. I agree that the warrior path has been around millions of years and that the japanese budo mainly 500 . Taoism dates back like 4000 years and the sage lau tsu is credited for founding it because of his written work, he also left china some 2500 years ago to tibet. zenbuddhism did not originate tao but it all came from the same origins china or if you like go farther back to india. What is the sound of one hand clapping?
  11. The japanese word "DO" means "way", meaning "road to travel by", BUT it can also be interpreted as "abstract spiritual way of life", the concept of "DO" ( TAO IN CHINESE) originates from zenbuddhism where the meaning is "the way to reach enlightment". "DO" in reflection to BUDO can be translated to " the way to develop the human mind through training of a martial art".
  12. It is rellevent because it is more than 400 years old as stated before. Daruma combined the aspects of zen and budo, he also learned a type of fighting art in india being the son of a war loard. yes budo is a japanese word and so is karate ( also translated china hand, as stated by funakoshi ) does not zen mean meditate? I was also clear that zen is not in all buddhism but most. my point is that buddhism and budo martial way is older than christianity.
  13. Zen is the central principal of many forms of budo, mind, body ,spirit. zen should be achieved wile doing forms or kata. do more search on buddhism and budo they go hand in hand.
  14. many types of buddhism as well as many many types of christians. japanese monks differ from chineese monks from india monks.
  15. Daruma arrived is shoalin-si china from india in 5th century bc and taught zen buddhism, now that sounds pretty well organized even if it was small because you must remember that the followers of christ at the time were also the minority.

  17. I agree that wc is not a style but a method. If you are attacked its up to you what you are going to do and everyones reaction will be different. It does not take long to learn wc but takes years to master it so I feel that bruce learned it and did not master it, that is why he was not satisfied with it. JKD has more tools to use and no sets or katas to learn so the learning curve is shorter. Both arts has something to offer but i do believe that when im 60 my wc will be better than it is now and im not sure if i will be able to do the jkd stuff when im an old man. Its personal choice
  18. anyone know a good web site it all the sets?
  19. I think the ufc is more like real life, I go every where in my karate gi and I fight guys on the street wearing speedos.
  20. I know I did it on purpose, some days I just feel like being an a$$.
  21. wrist locks and finger locks are grappling moves and work very well.
  22. I believe pat smith did a front kick in the ufc that sent the other guy falling back and to the ground.
